I am intersted in purchasing and also, if possible, selling. However, I do not know how to find places in which to purchase, nor know how to set up a shop.
When making or losing population or income/money, how do you keep track of that.

You just keep track of money in your head :)
thirdgeek (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/) has a nice calculator you can use to see your budget. Try and remember it's not all disposable, and an awful lot has to go on maintainance, training, munitions, logistics etc..
