Nationstates MUSH
Would any one be interested in this idea? I am going to start, and manage it if any one would be interested. Basically it is this:
People from the Nationstates community would be able to join the MUSH, and create characters to represent their nation as well as characters named from people in their nation. They would then be able to, if properly registered and given permission, build an area to represent their nation OR something else. The basic idea I have is for an roleplay city known as the International City, which will have an area for Embassies, Ambassadorial residences, and other areas.
What is a MUSH?
A MUSH is on a single server, and is an interlocking grid of chatrooms that can be moved through by using the cardinal directions. In each room one is able to chat, do an action, and roleplay.
Each room represents an area. A "room" might represent the Foyer of an embassy, a city square, a forest clearing, a bedroom, etc.
There are basic clients used to logon to such a place, better than telnet. It has as its basis telnet, though.

This sounds like an interesting idea-I assume there will be separate areas for the gameplayers (ie invaders/defenders) and roleplayers?
Well, it will be a social roleplay MUSH, not so much combative.......I just would hope it would get enough interest to be worth it..

i've got the simplemu client installed and i've hardly ever
used it. i was origeonaly going to join s.p.r. or one of
the furry mucks but never developed the enthusiasm for doing
so i had thought i might. so i'm interested.
what i'd really like to find is a simsoc about developing
alternative infrasturcture and using tecnology to live
closer to nature and be creative with in a more or less
tecnicly advanced setting in which fossle fuels had long
since run out and sentient population levels weren't all
out of balance with the community of other life forms like
we seem to be on earth these days, even in large developed
countries like the u.s.
i think the kind of mush you're proposing would be, if
anything, a great deal more interesting to me then most of
what goes on here on n.s.
i like the stimulation of the issues bit but i'd like better
a situation where it was possible to come up with our own
real solutions to them instead of having a multiple choice
of usualy rediculous ones.
i'm not saying that to impose my ideas either. just for
what it's worth to express what interests me.
i like the room based idea though i've never gotten up yet
the confidence or courage to @build anything. i guess
that's part of why i've yet to really get into it.
it would be wonderful to be able to @build moving 'rooms'
that fallow a fixes but switchable pathe (i.e. trains,
monorails, cablecars, et c.). i think that would be realy
cool. i don't know if those exixt that actualy work that
way but that would be my greatest fascination if possible.
i'm not that much of a conversational mode type person.
i'm really more interested in @building but there seems to
be almost as much to it as some kind of programing language
which i suppose in a sense it is a kind of meta programing
meta language or something like that.
i wonder if there are good help documents and tutorials on
it somewhere.
well anyway if you've got a server to do it on i'd love
to be there so you've certainly got my vote to go for it
(please let me know if and where you do and the details to
connect when it happens. group lists and vB/ubb forums are
another possible alternative)

oooooh, good idea ^.^
The biggest problem is that every nation leader has a nation, and they'll probably want to build it...
Mirantha: Well if there is /that/ much interest, I will limit it. But there will be plenty of space for a 1000 rooms if need be. Though it seems rather useless. I hope people focus on the International City, their embassies, etc. I may not allow people to build their own capitals unless their around awhile, etc.

That'd probably work. Still, limiting the number of users and rooms per embassy would lighten the load a bit. If you're not going to allow capitals unless they've been around for a while or the like, then it should require a very long time, to avoid high numbers of capitals.
Just my two cents.

Why not make it that if yer already a well recognised roleplayer here (A REALLY well recognised, REALLY good roleplayer), you can get, say, 50 rooms, and with them you can create a roleplaying enviroment. What I mean is, say your a good roleplayer, and you want to create an RP around a military base. You can use the 50 rooms in any arrangement to create it, and after the RP is over, you can rearrange them to whatever you want your next RP to be.
Also, to get to the various RP's, why not have a main embassy lobby in International City, and whilst there you type the name of an RPer, and if they have an area, it takes you to it.
For example, the embassy lobby could say 'Before you are various doors, each leading to the embassies of a different nation'. Type in, say, The Island of Roses (First name that popped into my head), and it takes you to the Island of roses embassy, and from there, you can choose wether or not to go to whatever RP area he may have set up.
That's just my little suggestion.
Rinceweed: Sounds like a good idea, but one may go from OOC to other people's IC areas.
The International City was going to be an IC RP area, with an elected Council and Mayor. There will be an Embassy District or Row that will have the embassy buildings of each nation, a Residential district for Ambassadorial residences, etc. Each embassy will probably be limited to 10 rooms each. There will be IC restaraunt areas, four star hotels, etc. I hope the International City will become a hub of diplomacy and intrigue.

One thing i'd just like to say about my idea. There's a reason I proposed it.
See, you'll notice something. You have to type a persons name to get to their RP area. That means that unless your the sort of person who spends hours looking for an RP to gatecrash by checking EVERYONE's embassy, you need to be invited to an RP to even know of it.
I anticipate to have the MUSH launched, barebones, by next weekend. Possibly earlier.

Wow, I didn't know I was well known :D
And it's The Island of Rose! Not Roses! Not of the Rose! No, of Rose! Just call me TIOR :)
Anyway, yes good idea.

Heres an idea. The Admin of the MUSH takes a couple of Nations that he or she sees as /unique/. For example, my country of Corennia is a Militarized Democracy, where the Rifles (Army basicly) run the MIlitary Police, NAvy runs the fire department and emergency medical service, and Civil Corps run a myrid of civil things. Another country,Triancia, is like if America were Britain. Some others are small island nations. Obviously I'm plugging myself and people I know, but the admin would pick 6-7 original nations, perhaps two on one side of a military alliance, and two on another, and run with them.
Actually, I am designing it now, and first will come the International City. This will have embassies to RP in for each person, etc.
