Problems with the Thirdgeek GDP calculator

New Spartan Empire
27-08-2004, 22:33
Ok guys, here's the skinny: I try to use the much-flaunted www.thirdgeek.com NS GDP calculator, but for some reason it WILL NOT work for this nation. It works with my others, no problem. But for some reason, when I put in this address (http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=new_spartan_empire), I get some stupid page that goes something like this:
Error getting nation data
XML error: junk after document element at line 1

Unknown nation "ast_shores".
The nationdata script allows you to automatically collect nation information from NationStates.

If, for example, you have your own web site for your region, you can write a script to automatically collect statistics for your nations so that your site always has the latest information.

The nationdata script outputs an XML document. To generate it, visit:

    http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/nationdata.cgi/nation= X

where X is the name of a nation. Note: spaces must be HTML-encoded -- changed to %20 -- or replaced by underscores.
I have been trying this thing since this nation was created, and it never has worked. Any suggestions?

That's because the region you're in is too large for the ThirdGeek calculator to work properly.

Move your nation to a small region, check your stats, then go back

Thirdgeek only works on smaller regions under 95 nations. Mine is well over that.

Thirdgeek only works on smaller regions under 95 nations. Mine is well over that.

That's incorrect. Mine worked for well over a hundred, with my region currently sitting at 119 nations. However, for whatever reason, it currently does not work.

Actually, I see what the problem is on second check.

The original poster is using the address: http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy...._spartan_empire

However, NSEconomy recently upgraded to a new version located here:
http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/?nation=new_spartan_empire

Thus, if you use the old link with a large region, it won't work, but if you use the new link, it will work. However, extremely large regions with more than say 500+ nations willl not work properly as of yet.
