In order to cultivate greater understanding throughout the NationStates community,

And in order to provide a common place for the leaders of all nations, whether invaders, defenders, or role-players, to discuss important matters,

And in order to permit a fair consideration of all matters throughout NationStates,

I, [Lord] Martin Goobergunch, President of the Liberal Unitary Republic of Goobergunchia, hereby call a Convention to discuss the formation of a League of NationStates, which can be found at http://ns.goobergunch.net.

The League of NationStates shall be an organization comprised of sovereign nations, and its governing body shall be a Council comprised of representatives from nations apportioned in such a manner to give each region fair representation.

Representatives from all nations and regions are invited to attend the Convention. One representative from each region shall be recognized as a Delegate to the Convention from the region in question and may vote on any questions that arise; however, representatives from all nations are welcome to participate in these discussions.

I hereby designate [Lord] Michael Evif as Temporary Chairman of the Convention, and Delegate from Democratic Underground as a representative from Goobergunchia.

I also lay before the convention an initial draft of the Charter for this League of NationStates, which can be found at http://ns.goobergunch.net/charter.php.

Heh...I just bought it on 30 July, and didn't really set it up until a few days ago....heck, I'm still setting it up.

The Free Republic would be pleased to allow our Ambassador, Emily Issem, to Gooberguncia attend as our representative. We also feel that Ambassador Issem be allowed to act as a representative seperate from any reprsentative sent from our home egion of Haven. There are only two of our regional neighbors whom we trust and we do not want them voting on any motions on our behalf.

Basically my nation would certainly be interested in attending the conference so long as the League does not come into conflict with its current commitment to the United Nations.

The League will have no conflict with the UN, as it is strictly prohibited from altering national or regional sovereignty and national alliances, etc.

The general idea of the League is to provide a common area for discussion of the NationStates world, which doesn't really exist at this point, as well as to provide the first ever properly representative NationStates organization. We'll have to see how it evolves, but that's my general idea.

When I first read this thread, I wondered "why? What is this League's purpose?"

Upon further contemplation, this pre-amble seems to define some sort of purpose. Questions I have now are... why can't we do the above on the NS forum? Do we really need a League just for that? What if I were to just ignore the League (and this goes for the League of The Pacifics as well, Loop ;) ) entirely, would that harm my region in any way? What benefits does my region obtain with this League which cannot be obtained through already existing means?

well the NS forums are still slow, and during the day you have to look for your threads among a billion others, on a dedicated forum, like the League of the Pacifics (http://atlas.walagata.com/w/loop/whalesssss.jpg) where you dont have to wade through a bunch of NonSense to get to the Pertinant NS stuff you want.
