Hey there,

Just as a matter of interest, what's yournation's population at this very moment. Who has got the largest nation out there?

Right now, my population is 2.482 Billion

Isn't there someone out there with like 4 billion people or something insane like that?

My population is 4.128 billion- I think a nation called Josifovich has the greatest population at 4.768 billion.

I reckon the size of the nations is absolutely ridiculous. I'm considering taking two zeroes off in all of my calculations. So I started with 10 mill or so, but I reckon more realistically it should be 100 000 that's a viable mini-nation like South Ossetia. If only one was taken off it would be OK too, so you start with about 1 mill and work your way slowly up. At the moment the size of nations makes the game untenable. It would have to be taking place on a much larger planet, which would mean that gravity would be much heavier, which would mean we would all be hulking, heavy muscled slobbish lizard creatures.

Sure, but not enough of them to make earth's pop anything like viable. There's a thread somewhere were about 10 or 20 nations are dividing up a map of the world. Going on pop size of their nations its realistic, but there's 80'000 nations for crying out loud.

THe worst thing is when people rp wars with armies that are so massive they make world war 2 look like a catfight. OR even worse, when they use their stupidly large armies to attack non-playing countries with rl style populations.

Josifovich is the largest. Because of the population bug. He is not the oldest though.

3.22 billion here, there are a couple of November 2002 nations, they have the biggest population.

Anything over 4 billion is caused by the Population bug.

You're assuming that NationStates is not set on a ringworld or Dyson sphere here.

Yeah, I've always pictured NationStates with "Earth" being a ringworld. There are simply too many nations with too many people in them to take place on a planet. Even with a mostly hollow Jupiter-sized world, there would be climate problems. So, a ringworld it is. (The RL Earth thread is just carving up a series of continents that resemble modern ones.)

NationStates is too confusing! Make the Ringworld official! :D

Josifovitch is indeed the biggest one. over 4,5 billion.

i guess there are now between 2000 and 3000 nations above the 3 billion limit.

My nation has a population of 1.298 billion people.

Today (29.07.04): 1.425 billion.

Yes, it increases every day.

For the first twenty days, it seems to be hardcoded and goes like this:
Start at 5 million
Increase by 1m/day for a few days
Increase by 2m/day for a few days
Increase by 3m/day for a few days
Increase by 4m/day for a few days
Increase by 5m/day for a few days
Increase by 6m/day for a few days
This gets you up to something like 62 million. After that, it seems to be random between 5 and 7 million every day.

Oh, and to answer the original question, I'm at 2.441 billion right now.

If I did that, though, my nation would probably be quickly crushed. Maybe I could RP with 900 million with other people willing to reduce their populations, and 3.x billion with people who aren't...

Well itstead of NS being one big world I have seen people suggest that their are 2, 3, 4 or more 'earths' where all the NS nations are. They guys who run NS should make it so that no nation can go above the population of the largest nation in RL, that would be China, and you should be able to set the population that you want after you have past that population almost like a growth stop button. I think that those two features along with possibly multiple earths in NS could make the RP alot more realistic and fun.
