I am trying to get my tax level down to 10%, but I don't know how to do it. Also, once I get there, how can I make it stick?

Hmm... I just got a tax-reducing issue:

Arx Angelus Decides:
A Taxing Dilemma

The Issue
Citizens staged a mass protest against 'monolithic' tax rates after the government recently instituted the 'Anything That's Purple' tax.

The Debate
"The tax situation in Arx Angelus is ridiculous," says Thomas Wong at the protest. "The taxes keep getting piled on and yet - I haste to add - the government doesn't seem to realise that with a 100% tax rate, they already have all our money! We've been reduced to bartering for goodness sake! I haven't seen a talent in years! It's bad for Arx Angelus, but more importantly, it's bad for business. We must take huge cuts out of the government budget. Even if it does mean less education, healthcare, and whatnot."
[Accept]

"You can't!" cries Lars Mombota, the National Treasurer. "They don't seem to realise that if we cut taxes, it will drastically underfund our public services! All our environmental work, our education system, our healthcare system - all will go kaput! Arx Angelus depends on these taxes, we need the money! Don't let the people fritter it away on luxuries, 'cos they'll soon be complaining about there not being enough policemen on the beat. We'll tax the shirts off their backs and they'll be damn well happy about it!"

As much as I want to lower my taxes though, I fear to lose educational funding and whatnot. I want my nation to be the smartest in the world, after all! :)

Has anyone had this issue? If so... what are its effects both ways?

Heh, heh, heh...I have a 100% tax income, and get no issues to lower it...it kinda sucks.

It is rather odd. I just drafted legislation to keep Harry Potter books legal in Voz Sabio, and income taxes went up. One would think that deciding not to regulate publishing wouldn't require us to tax anyone.

Remember, if you're socialist a 100% tax rate means that your a true commie!

no money to spend for themselves coz the money goes to demographic needs.

yeah.

is this part of the forum in character?

if you wanna lower it just hope and pray youg get issues to help you lower it. The way you can lower it with issues is go pro-buisness. And when it comes to the govt. paying for everything click nooo. Like when it says should we tax churches, click "the govt. should not take taxes from anything" and cut spending from welfare and stuff like that. it worked for me. I went from 47 percent to 0 percent in 3 weeks. I dont know how you could stick it at 10 percent and dont think its possible. ask a mod I guess or hope a more senior player answers.

There are a number of tax lowering issues, the most significant ones being #14, #24 and #56. To hold a tax rate you have to dismiss most of the issues after 100 -- seems like every option has a tax for the more recent ones -- although I'm not absolutely certain because the language in the options is so extreme that I've been dismissing some without trying to experiment and see what each option does.
