Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me? No matter what I do, whenever I make a flag, I can't make it 6KB or smaller! How do you make a flag that small? And what do you use to make your flag? (I use 'Paint') Please help if you can. Thanks!

Make your flag a JPG or GIF image.

I did. It's still too big, though.

I use The Gimp, which can be downloaded free from the net. There it lets you set it to 107X70 pixels, which I believe is the "legal" flag size.
Hope it helps!

PS -- ask Infinite Loop what he suggests -- he's a flag maven around here!

You can find the installers for the Windows version at http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/stable.html.
BTW, you can make a flag smaller by reducing its color depth. The flag for my nation is a 16-color PNG image, which takes up all of 431 bytes. Simple designs with large areas of one color also bring sizes down.

Thanks. It's free, right?

I clicked on the link, but I'm confused! What do I do to download it? (yeah, I'm an idiot when it comes to computers, I know...)

It may be a better idea to try the older version at http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/old.html; the new version has a few nasty font issues (crashing on startup because of some font that you may have). The old version can still do more than Paint does, though.
You just need to click one of the "Download" links in the "GTK+ for Windows" section and one of the "Download" links in the "The Gimp for Windows" section (all the download links in a section lead to the same file). Once you have those saved, unzip the files and run the installer with "gtk+" in the file name, then run the installer with "gimp" in the file name.

Sorry, but I still don't understand. Please excuse my stupidity (well, stupidity when it comes to computers, anyway...)

Here's what I did;
I had a JPEG of the appropriate pixel dimensions, but just a hair over 6K. I opened it in XnView, went to "Save As...", went into "Options" and saved it at a lower quality (50 instead of 100).
Viola! It went from ~6K to 1.55K, and at 107 x 71 pixels, it barely lok any different.

All right...you know how 'No Smoking' signs have a red circle with a diagonal line in the middle? I want it like that...except, instead of a cigarette in the middle, a cartoon roach (all black). Thanks for the help!

They're both awesome. By the way, when I clicked on the flag delivery link, it said I needed a password. Do I use the same password I use for the forums, my nation's password, or a different one?

the EP offsite forum is currently on DefCon3 requiring people to log in to view the forum, you would have to register to post or read there.
sorry.

Make a login name and USE A DIFFERENT PASSWORD.
Sorry for shouting, but a number of people have run into problems using their NS password elsewhere. It's just good security not to use the same one in multiple places.

The GIMP package needs the GTK+ package to work. I'd install both, starting with the GTK+ package.
(GTK+ = the "Gimp ToolKit (http://www.gtk.org/)", which provides the GIMP with what it needs to draw the buttons, etc. It also happens to be a big part of the GNOME Unix desktop, among other things.)
