DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND JOINS RED LIBERTY ALLIANCE
The ranks of the Red Liberty Alliance (RLA) have been swelled by a new member region: Democratic Underground, founded by Goobergunchia.
This new addition brings RLA membership to 7 regions: Allied States of EuroIslanders, The Proletariat Coalition, Urbanites, Coalition of Socialist States, World Socialist Alliance, China and now Democratic Underground. It confirms the RLA as a growing force among left-of-centre regions and adds to their defensive strength, which can be deployed to help any leftist region under attack.
But the RLA is more than a defensive alliance. It also acts as a forum for discussion of left wing politics and the promotion of egalitarianism and democracy throughout NationStates. Democratic Underground, with their widely-acknowledged strengths in political debate and regional governance, will be bringing some welcome expertise to this side of the alliance.
So why did DU choose to join the RLA? Goobergunchia explains:
"We in the Democratic Underground region are honored to be a member of the Red Liberty Alliance. Although Democratic Underground generally avoids large alliances, the Red Liberty Alliance's smaller size combined with its support of leftist ideals made it a perfect fit for our region. DU was a member of the MAP alliance, and traces its ties to Urbanites and The Proletariat Coalition to that alliance; we look forward to continuing our ties with them and expanding our ties with Allied States of EuroIslanders, Coalition of Socialist States, and China."
The RLA recently withdrew from active hostilities against Ireland and its Entente allies. It is currently concentrating on building an internal structure that combines democracy and accountability with the ability to respond quickly to threats in these uncertain times.
