Where'd your nation's name come from?

Mine is from the 30's film 'The Zombies of Mora Tau'.

Mine is a ficticous country me and my friends made up when I was little.

In most computer games I go by the name of "Bad_Skeelz". Not being the most original person, I simply tagged "ania" onto the end and dropped "Bad", giving me "Skeelzania." Incidentally, our first Grand Prince was Baad Skeelzot.

Ninara- ooh. This is a hard one. I like the Nine Inch Nails (NIN). And my name is Nina. I'm cool.

Honestly? I just threw together some nonsense syllables. However, in game, I'm stating that it's the combined names of "Andrew" and "Olaf", two of the country's founders.

Mine stems from not being able to think of a name and having recently played EVE Online.

hmm I went with Jiggady because it is my nickname, and when I was creating the nation I needed a quick name so I just put that; because I use it for most online things. Then I learned about the whole role play side of nationstates and wished that I picked a better one, but eventually just worked it out how the nation came to be called Jiggady.

well, i thought Korea was a really cool namr, and Korea is broken in two halfs, and this is Fiction so, why not make it United Korea? but United Korean Nations makes the name sound more important, and Gives me a more Distinct Abreviation. so the UKN, as it is ofen referred too, Came out of it.

"Call me Ishmael" is the opening line of Moby Dick, one of the most famous openers there is. So it is partly that, and partly the novel Ishmael, which is just outstanding, which is about a talking gorilla of the same name. I sort of base my country on the philosophies expounded in that book.
The hyphen is there because, despite the fact that there is no current country called Ishmael, apparently it had been used before, cuz the site wouldn't let me pick it. So Ish-mael it is.

the country was the "aviatic republic". i couldnt have the republic before aviatic, so i chose avia. aviatic is an adjective, avia is the noun.

I can read some of it, but some other parts im lost... apparently its some sort of modernising venture.... that works with the EU Social Funds and is based in Germany. Thats really all i can say based on a quick glance and some clicks and some norwegian vocab similarities.

I'm a fantasy nerd, so Callisdrun is a combination of Callisdrin and Drun, two rivers in this one fantasy series I read. Callisdrin is my capital city, and Drun is the second biggest city in my nation. I stole the names of a few other cities from that book series as well.

My nation is in the region Eastern Europe, I tried to think of an eastern european name so I took Yugoslavia (yug means south in Russian) and took of the Yug and added Vostok (which means east) so I got Vostokoslavia (land of the east slavs)

Xiang Gang is Mandarin Chinese for the Cantonese Heung Gung (Hong Kong) which means "sweet-smelling port".

I chose mine because I could not think of a name and then I looked at my brothers jumper which said FILA and then it hit me Filea :D

It all comes down to a website I found with hundreds of hilarious euphemisms for a certain part of my body. It made me laugh when I thought of it and it has just grown on me. I mostly get positive feedback, although, someone TG'd me and told me I was a sexist pig. :lol: Pretty hard to be sexist towards women when you are a woman!

I used to play D&D and I had a very powerful wizard named Myrdinn. Myrdinn is believed by at least one scholar to be the real name of Merlin (if he actually existed). So, I'm also a little bit of a King Arthur buff and I thought I'd just carry that into NS when I joined.

I wanted to call my nation Harryland. However it was already taken proably by another person named harry. when I was younger I had a game with my firends where I would make moel airplanes paint them with my offical logo. and fly them. I would declare war with my friends who also had their own countries with model airplane logos on them of their own offical countries. As soon as Harryland expires if it ever does then I will create the country with that name and then I will put the flag with my offical logo on it. for now it will be a long time 28 days at least. However I will be pacient. if it does not happen ever then I will still have to affilate myself with harrylandia.

The name I choose for my nation comes from a story I'm writing about a world a couple of right angles in time away from our current universe. Tinis was the name of the planet and in their native language means "The World".

Zarashitis.... i misspelled it. It was supposed to be Zarashtis, but see im not good in Farsi. Zarashti is the Iranian name for a Zoroastrian. I am Zoroastrian... but of course not Iranian. Zoroastrianism is my religion....

When I was still in school, my class had to come up with the assignment that we were the leaders of a nation. We had to name the country, decide what kind of government it was, design a flag, et all...very similar to NationStates, actually, just minus the computer (and massively multi-player part). I named mine Colerica, by combing my first name (Cole) with "rica," after America. The "United Empire" was a take off the "United States." And the rest is history (well, not really).

I've often joked/ranted about giving up on human civilization and fleeing to a remote part of the Sierra Madre mountains, fortifying it with landmines and machinegun nests, and seceding from the union. I'd call it Cabinia after the crude cabin I build for my home.

When I found this game, I already knew what I'd call my new country, and what its origins and ideologies would be.

The Holy Empire of Aille is (sort of) Gaelic. I wanted Nas Aille, which means roughly very beautiful (I don't really speak Gaelic, I just fake it, hope nobody in the IRA gets mad) and I screwed up something else and thought nationstates didn't like the space :oops: . c'est la vie!

Actualy, in the beggining I founded several nations, to test out differant answers. Alderania, Isengard and Mordor (one nation), Erebor, Fluffywuffy, Xavier, and Zionia.

Fluffywuffy, the most retarded name in the bunch, was picked because I thought that it was not only funny, but embarassing to lose anything against. "The Fluffy troops mauled the opposing army," "the Fluffy Navy sank the opposing navy," "The Fluffy pilots easly out piloted the enemy pilots, destroying them in a matter of seconds."

The rest of these nations are, sadly, gone. Alderania, if I had not used that for my n00b stage, would probably be my nation if not for the n00b stage in it. The rest, as puppets, were let die. Xavier and Zionia were sorta continued in the early history of my nation (ancient times, etc.)

We have a sort of place where crazy persons can live nearby,

I had recently seen the film Dead Babies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218138/) which featured a strange cult-like artisric movement, dedicated to destruction called the Conceptualists. My nation wasn't built apon those theories but I like the idea. I was also interested in Post Modernism at the time and other strange movements (inc. Conceptualism) which is where I got my motto from. " M A K E I T N E W" which is something Ezra Pound used as a 'battle cry,' but I put the spaces in it to look artistic (or stupid, you decide). Actually it was just a joke, I wanted to use as much space as possible on a short phrase.

Tineretului is Romanian (Latin) and means "of the young ones."

Well, Akavir is a land in the Elder Scrolls series. I dont know why i named my nation that, i guess i just love TES. I came up with Akaviir by mistake. i didnt even notice that i put two I's. well, it does look and sound better. Akaviir sounds cooler than Akavir.
BTW- I was originally going to name my naion Alucardia after the awesome Alucard from Hellsing {the coolest mature anime ever made. i am in love with that show.}Then i realised that lucardia sounds stupid, and instead named my nation Akaviir, or Akavir. whatever.

Despite being mistaken for Lolita, my nation's name is actually from a made-up language.

I just took the name I use on the internet sometimes, "Sanchez", and stuck it in a random word generator, and it added "onallet" to the end, and it sounded kind of countryish

....Rikua, because i am Rikua...my nation, my name. No, i wasn't feeling self-absorbed at all when i created it.... :twisted: it's the Sultanate of Rikua, because Rikua is Sultana...another leader comes around, hey, the nation changes name. Ain't that a fun (and confusing) idea?!

On AoMH (http://aom.heavengames.com) one of the members' farms was invaded by racoons, and they had light-eyes (lol), so we came up with The Star Wars Racoons (Fear Darth Racoon!)

I don't know how I'm going to follow up a map.... but Fissiland is from the anglized Latin prefix "Fissi-" from Fissure/Fission/Fissile meaning tending to split or schism, alluding to either coups & dissent, and "-land" which could give 'Fissi-' the meaning for a terrain of Fjords that cover the country.

I was feeling particularly egocentric and decided that my full name would be best for my country since I had decided to be queen... 8)

Hence, when I created my nation, I named it Labrador, for my dog. Our National Flag is an actual picture of my dog, and our currency, the Lyric, is named in her honor, as her name is Lyric. As well you may imagine, our National Animal is the Dog...and, while NationStates will not let me decide for myself what our main industry is on the NS site, my national description on our Region's offsite Forum, correctly indicates our main industry is dog-breeding. We are known for breeding and training the world's finest Seeing-Eye, Hearing-Ear, drug-sniffing, bomb-sniffing, and water-rescue dogs.

Naturally, I have a puppet nation, named in Lyric's honor, as well...

Kin-Tatsu comes from the japanese meaning gold (because i'm blonde)+tatsu meaning dragon because i'm Welsh. I'm studying japanese so i thought it wd b quite cool to have a made up japanese name :)
