Farewell Post from Whispering Voices

20-05-2004, 23:34
IC: The gathered populace, billions in number, waited in their underground cities, tension and excitement draining from them as Crown Prince Rhys' modulated tones washed away their worlds in golden honey. Two days had they been standing, from the youngest boy to the oldest grandmother, and yet none flagged: for he lead them spiritually, on the path to ascension that he had already paved - there and back to the godhead itself.

The icy, bleak nation shuddered and lay silent, as watching lurking rednesses drank in the sight of the destiny of their populace, nurtured over ten thousand years of bitter struggle, came about. The humans faded from sight as they merged, and became one and yet seperate with the universe. Motes of dust in the light of creation. There was a sigh, from the depths of the lowest cavern to the frosted peaks of the highest mountain, and then stillness.

And the snow fell, and the world turned, and of Whispering Voices' earthly incarnation nothing remained.

OOC:

I recently remembered the existence of Nationstates after several months of forgetfulness. Never the type to just disappear (I thrive on attention, as do we all) I am taking the luxury? liberty? insert relevant word here? of posting a goodbye (yes, I'm arrogant enough to think some people may care). Obviously I had to have an IC resolution for the country, but that's ok - I built up to it in enough other posts.

So here are my shoutouts (yay):

Devil's Desert - too many countries to name. Founded originally by Anaxa, the region consisted ofcountries run by people from Durham University Treasure Trap Society (that's the old and cold Durham, in England). Later remade by myself after founders were introduced, we soon gathered external members because of our activeness and fantastic roleplay! Or something. Almost all of us have now gone onto something else, but it is good to remember our roots. Big gay E-HUGS to the nations that joined us on the way - Santa Barbara, Nikea, Gehenna Tartarus (actually that'd be a hetero-hug), Shaktal (that's Tarasovka). Apologies to any others I forgot ... . Oh and hail first name terms in our IRC channel ;)

Nikea - always the quiet one, but so much effort went into his stuff. Although I swear those names are elven ... ahem. Exceedingly chilled guy :) Much <3 for Nikea.

Santa Barbara - a pleasure being techy with you. Someone capable of not making ubereliteimmortalsexay characters! Santa rocks, and has way too many good thoughts about militaries and spacecraft. I think Santa has the single best, most comprehensively-defined military system I've ever seen for Nationstates.

Gehenna - always nice, mostly polite, and never hasty. A good friend and often a calming influence, the one thing that confused me was how hard it was to do a RP with this lady and not end up in a romance. Awesome awesome character development :)

GDODAD - the original one, of course, with The Silver Turtle and Klamath. Got me involved in my first war, against Arani, and damn that was fun. Caused me to develop a hell of a lot of my country on-the-fly. GDODAD got lame after the space race caused war (which it relied on) to escalate from the sublime to the ridiculous, so it's that particular version of GDODAD I remember with the rosiest rose-tinted spectacles. A lot of people condemned GDODAD for a lack of roleplay but then self-righteous roleplay martyrs with OMGCHARACTERDEVELOPMENT complexes always annoyed me: been there, done that, jaded. Favourite time in GDODAD: Pure Evil nuking Arani (his ally, our enemy) to kill some of TST's men with pointy sticks.

The REIGN - a secretive organisation of countries acting as illuminati. Most of them still play so I won't give out names or individual thanks, but we precipitated some of NS' bloodiest and bitchiest wars - and fought on opposite sides to not give the game away. With at least one of us in every major faction ... it ruled. We ruled.

Quick individual "thank you!"s:

SilverCities - a very nice and amenable person who trusted me enough to let my mad scientists experiment on her main character.
Vortex and Tarasovka - you two are great. Telegrams to both of you will go out soon. Keep in touch.
Marathon and Raem - death to the General Forumers.

Now to the mIRC "kr3w!":

Lavenrunz - Definitely the person I felt a greatest empathy with during roleplays. No elitism and no fear, and mature enough to take roleplay beyond the generic and into the interesting. Not sure what happened to you but good luck in all you do!

Diablo_NL - very nice guy, possibly the nicest and least bitchy person on the whole of the IRC thing.

Rezo - so many times I agreed with you over so many issues. I think I did a good job of covering it up with my contrary exterior though. Another favourite RPer of mine.

EOTED - from scorned enemy to interesting ally, you were an excellent writer in a forum with many good writers.

SATO and The Reich - cool groups, with more in common than they realised. With long-running puppets in both, I feel I have the authority to say that.

Knootoss - too liberal perhaps for my tastes ... which is why, when you agreed with me, I knew I was right ;) Also thoroughly nice (must come with living in Dutchland). I loved the Knootian war, great fun.

Kitsylvania - nationstates needed more of you.

To the other mIRC people - well there was a honeymoon period when I got on with all of you, but then I started wanting scientifically-explainable tech: it all went down hill from there. Nevertheless, thanks to Siri for being my first spec-ops acquisition, even if she fell into the Pit later on.

Now, back when I planned my leaving post (the day I made Whispering Voices) I intended for it to be full of bile, hatred, and other troublemaking things: here's the bile for the people I hate!

<bile>

Yea, sorry. No hate here ;) Some people provided me with a lot more amusement than they realised though :) However, back when I was enthusiastic (I really liked getting into the spymaster role, to the tune of "Climbing up the Walls" by Radiohead), I collected (or rather, got sent by mistake) a huge number of cyber logs of prominent NS personages, including some most enthusiastic meanderings from channels such as #Dragon_Cave ("The first rule of NS Sex Club.. is there IS no NS Sex Club..!"). Despite my baser urgings to the contrary, I'm not going to post these. Got you excited though I bet.

In many ways, I'll miss Nationstates. It was like having a Goth girlfriend - new and interesting at first. But as it got older and fatter, it began using so much eyeshadow that no matter what you hit it with, you couldn't see any effect.

I can still be contacted via this country (Old Whispering Voices) by telegram, unless it gets deleted, in which case any Devils Desert nation will know how to contact me. My current project is a Victorian module for Neverwinter Nights (whilst I wait for World of Warcraft and HalfLife2) if you can model or do tilesets contact me too :O I also sometimes play on the server Exaria (http://www.exaria.net). Between those too, and making a website and forums, I have no free time to spend on Nationstates.

Much love,

Whispering Voices.

Well, so long.

Personally, I don't recall seeing much of you. Not since I left General back in late July/ early August at any rate.

But you were one of the first dozen o so people whom I recall meeting on the forums. I forget whether I was flaming you, or you were just pposting on the thread where I was flaming Norm and Ny for having cybersex.

Good luck in quitting.

Can't be arsed to log in as Diablo_NL now.
Sad to see someone that likes proven physics just as much, or more then I leave, but you have your reasons.
Thank you very much for the compliment and I'll be sure to stay in touch with you. Who knows, I might take ya up on that offer you once gave me and end up on your doorstep. Oh how you regret saying it now, don't you. ;)

Anyways, take care mate.

Since my ability to express my liking of others... Doesn´t exist, I wont do it.

Still...

*waves* NS is lacking something, with you gone. Though you could be quite annoying, at times :P

You were one of the best, WV!

Well, what can I say?

Was fun, was great, a Whispering Voices citizen is the only foreigner to have ever received the highest Taraskovyan military decoration...

Have fun in life! :D
Maybe you're not the only one leaving for good you know

He will indeed. A fine RPer if ever there was one. Cheeky sod for not mentioning the #plotting crowd though. ;)
