ha, i got reservations on this now :P
if anyone knows any questions new players ask ALOT, feel free to post them here ;)
okay, here's an example, lemme hear what ya think ;)
Help, I'm new, what do I do?
First, welcome to the game. ;)
It's always handy to first read the site's FAQ (http://www.nationstates.net/pages/faq.html)
There's several ways you can play this game.
You can answer issues for your nation, and discuss them with other players. (No, you can't get more than 2 issues a day). You can also create issues, and if the mods like it, it'll be used in the game. You can read more about issues here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=10).
You can join the UN, and vote on resolutions, if you have 2 or more endorsements you can submit proposals (do read the stickies in The United Nations (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=3) on that first, cause submitting too many wrong proposals can get you in trouble).
You can get involved with regional politics, just ask your local UN Delegate about it ;)
You can RP, just read the stickies in the RP forums (NationStates (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=1) and International Incidents (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=8)).
You can use your UN nation to invade other regions, or help defend them.
You can just hang out in the General forum (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=5), and get to know people from all around the world.
How does invading work?
You move to another region with some friends, and take over the delegate spot in that region, by making sure one of your friends has more endorsements than anyone else in the region.
Once you have taken over the region, you'll have access to regional control (unless the region has a founder, and the founder has barred delegate access to regional control.)
There's a lot of rules on invading, and breaking these can result in having your nation kicked from the UN, or even deleted.
The most important rules are:
No multis (one player having more than one nation in the UN)
When you password the region, you must telegram all the natives the password immediatly
You can eject a few natives, but you need to unban them immediatly.
You're not allowed to spam the regional happenings or the Civil HQ
For more details on invasionrules, see Big Invasion/delegate FAQ! (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109397)
Defenders are, at least according to the mods, also invaders.
They try to stop invaders from taking over a region, by either boosting up the endorsements of the native delegate, or (when the native delegate is inactive) endorsing one of their own, who then can kick out the invaders from the region.
Which region should I join?
When people post one of those "what region should I join" threads, I often reply along the lines of:
I recommend you visit the Unofficial NS Directory (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130266) which lists regions by geography, politics, themes etc. - also whether they are into role-playing, and whether they invade or defend. Go and look at a few, check their World Factbook entry, read their regional boards. When you've found one you like, move there - and don't worry if you've made a mistake, you can always move somewhere else another day.
Recruitment telegrams: look for the motive behind them. If it's a personal message from someone who has noticed you for a reason and thinks you'll like it in their region, good. If it's a standard "join our region, we're the best" chances are, the sender doesn't care about you – they want more nations to add to their power and prestige.
