I have read the FAQ and looked through the forums but i am a bit confused. I have seen people selling things, and conferences on this and that. Is this all done in the forums? I havn't seen a way to 'sell' 'buy or make 'money'. Do people just 'make' things they like/want to sell or did i miss something?

You are a newbie. (ones derogatory, the other isn't)
Conferences are places where people show off ideas they thought up/stole, and sometimes sell limited numbers. people who want to sell are usually required to put in a largfe amount of time designing their own kit, as real life equipment is at a disadvantage in NS.
You have to roleplay to get, arguably, the most of NS. Selling things allows them to spend more money developing new better items, and money is usually just played on a system of trust. How much money do you think your nation would have, realistically, givem it's population and economy. I's sure other people can explain it better.

Just take it slowly when you roleplay at first until you get the hang of it. Watch other, well-written roleplays on NS, then, start tinkering with your own. You'll get the hang of it in no time.
