Government types

Is there a breakdown of the various government types and what makes each one unique?

For instance, how would a noob know the difference between a Liberal Democratic Socialist government and a Democratic Socialist government? What swings a government from that to Inoffensive Centrist Democracy? What the heck is a New York Times Democracy?

And yes, I've been all of the above categories with my main country.

Try this thread: http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6551

It involved a bit of argument over who was right and who was wrong, but it should generally tell you what you want to know.

Thanks... I was wondering if anyone took the time to give a detailed breakdown of each individual government type so I could get an idea of how I could have gone from Liberal Democratic Socialists to Democratic Socialist to Inoffensive Centrist Democracy to New York Times Democracy back to Liberal Democratic Socialist in the space of just a few days.

Every time I see New York Times Democracy, I think of a culture that allows Jayson Blairs to run amok spreading lies in newsprint.

Your decisions on issues changed your UN Category rankings. The difference between an LDS and DS is political freedoms. Your political freedoms went down, hence, the loss of the "liberal" category. If your positions on issues make you centrist you become an ICD. A NYTD has a centrist position in Civil Rights and Economy and a libertarian position on Political Freedoms. You returned to being an LDS when you made your economy authoritarian again.

I don't know of any definitions of these political categories but Distributed Thought figured out how the rankings in CR, E and PF's affected your UN Category. See this thread:
