How do you calculate the number of military units a nation has?

What percentage of your population is it and are there any factors that cause it to deviate from this?

Rather urgent.

Hope someone out there can help or has better luck finding the original thread than i've had over the last few days.

There's no official way, but for nations without compulsory military service, it should be around 1% or less in your military, maybe 2% if you do have compulsory service. Of your military, only around 33% will fight or operate combat systems.
