General Help! Thats what I need!

I understand the basic mechanics of the game well enough, but I cannot figure out how to break into the roleplaying, which consitutes the fun in this little game. The forums are a mystery to me, there are too many posts, and it looks to me like there are different games crisscrossing each other. There are futuristic worlds, worlds modeled after the current one, sentient vegetables, all sorts of things, but its all a jumble. I cannot find the start.

Basically, what I'd like to know is where is a place where an experienced roleplayer, but a totally new nationstates player can go to roleplay in a modern setting?

Also I'd like to know if there are any regions which have regional disputes? When I looked through the adds most of the promising regions were tightly knit, and would no doubt do their fighting and trading with other regions through the forums. I'd like to know if there is a way to avoid having to use the forums, and the rest of the world, at least until I become familiar with it. I only wish to roleplay at a regional level, a place where I am not forced into a government, but can pick my allies and enemies at my own leisure.

I think what I'm looking for in a sentence is; are there any regions which act as their own world (I.E.- Don't really interact with other regions, and trade, war, and ally among themselves) which are reliable roleplaying regions, that are accepting new players/countries?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Liverpool England is correct. Gameplay (the forum) was created exactly for people like you. I'll move the thread over there and I'm sure that some players will be able to help you.

By the way, normally people aren't allowed to advertise their regions in random threads. If, however, you don't mind people advertising their own regions (to give you more options ), just post a message in this thread giving them permission.

Enjoy.

Asia has a couple of nations that role play among themselves but I don't know if it's to the extent that you want, and they usually use the NS forums. Look at our regional board and contact Dra-pol, Sebytania, Bhadia, Lecithi and Penglai for details. Also, they're a tad confusing because Seb is RP'ing a space faring nation, Penglai is also somewhat futuristic whereas Bhadia, Lecithi and Dra-pol appear to be in the present or at least in the 20th century.
