NationStates Jolt Archive

I'm a noob.

I admit it, I'm a noob, as is evidenced by my current post count of 1. I would like to get in to the RPG aspects of NationStates, but have no idea where to start. Could some of the more experienced players give me some pointers?

well if you are in the East Pacific, you can join up on our regional offsite forum, there is currently a RPG going on offsite.

OR you can relocate to the region the moderator Stephistan is in, they teach RPing to New players.

Loop is referring to Role Play University, a region and offsite forum offering support and instruction for the new (and not-so-new) NS player. You are not required to live in the region in order to avail yourself of instruction. Details can be found HERE (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=110024)

Kid, you want to know how to roleplay? I really don't have much time to take someone under my wing, but I can recomend a few countries whose posts to read (great way to improve roleplay skills):

The SLAGLands
TROUSRS
Menelmacar

They are, in my opinion, the three best roleplayers that I have experience with.

Also, any roleplays in the archive would be great to read.

And a top eleven (okay, ten) list of tips, from me:

1. Don't god-mod. Look up what this means.
2. Read the stickies. All of them, at least in the NationStates and International Incidents. And all linked threads.
3. Find allies.
4. Don't call people godmodders or IGNORE (this means pertend they don't exist because they are godmodding) for convenience- even if their technology level is thousands of years in advance of you, roleplay it out. Even if they are thousands of time larger than you, roleplay it out.
5. Join the United Nations, but with only one nation.
6. Start a storefront, but don't make it very large (yet) and don't use the money you get to justify huge budgets. I use mine primarily to get me and my technology known.
7. Calculate your GDP and how much money your government has. One of the stickies has a thread that tells you how to do this linked to it.
8. Make a definite list of your major cities, military, government organizations and leaders, etc.
9. Make a post to a threads where you describe your nation.
10. Respect the mods. They are needed around here. Trust me. I was here before the moderator system was introduced, but after the bad players began to come in.
11. Don't god-mod. Look up what this means.

Just a few tips from an old-timer. Oh, yeah, someone mentioned role-play university. It might work for you, but I personally don't think you can really learn well in a course-type way how to roleplay- it's just one of those things you have to pick up, in my opinion. You might want to try it out anyway though.
