I've not seen the following site advertised anywhere else, or in a sticky etc. It's the CIA's World Factbook (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/). Very detailed info and stats on countries, including downloadable maps and lists of regions within each country.

It's common knowledge. Like freewebz invisionfree, proboards22, and dk3 most people who use this site eventually discover it.

excellent reference i stumbled on in hard copy many years ago.
no school or public library sould be without it.
the online version i came accross two or three years ago seeking to
gratify my curiousity on and learn more about the to me fascinating
little nation of nepal.
(that if i were king of would have a little narrow gauge railway to
the same standards as the darjeeling and connecting to it from kanthmandu, but then i'm not there and never having been it is entirely possible that my personal fantasies would be all wrong for it, just no way to really tell, and it was really sad what happened there a few years back)
