A friend introduced me to the game. I've been looking at it with him for a few days without playing it myself. I like the look of it so I thought I'd give it a go.

From my nation's name you can see I am interested in all things mercantile. What's been worrying me is that people selling things on the open market, like nukes, chemical/biological WMDs, slaves and suchlike seem to be given a really hard time. I want to be able to buy and sell whatever I want to whoever I like, but I don't want to get wiped out in my first few days or weeks. So I'm looking for a strong region that doesn't mind if I trade in these things and will defend me if people come knocking at my door because I do.

Can anyone help?

What you do in the privacy of your own nation and to your own people is your own business and none of us will interfere. However, we all work as one unified military and political unit, so anyone that has a problem with you has a problem with us. Seeing as how we are currently selling uranium and human clones, whatever you want to market out will not be contested by any of us. ;)

I would suggest a militant region then, try a communist region. You could also look at the Kingdom of the Midlands ( http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi )

Its related to the legnth of being in the game, if you say you have nukes before 100 million (about a month), people will ignore you.

Okay. So I can't have my own WMDs. But what if I don't want to make my own, just buy and sell other people's? I am intending to be a nation that sepcialises in mercantile business so it makes sense to me that I should be able to do _that_

Oh. Sorry. I did get it and replied. Didn't notice you were the same person. I've had lots of offers very quickly and it's hard to keep up. Sorry.

Wow! This is _so_ difficult. I don't want to offend anyone by not taking them up on their kind offer, but I have to think about my own security. I've looked at everyone's regions and I think it boils down to either The Democratic Underground or Ninjao. The other regions don't reaally look like places where I'd fir in. I'm not wealthy enough. Or I don't have the right government type.

Ninjao looks really together and they've got good technology and the military forces look really hitech and efficient. But there's not many nations in the region and I wonder what would happen if a really big alliance came after me there.

The Democratic Underground has more nations, so there's safety in numbers. But I'm not sure they'd be so happy about me being there if I kept getting attacked because people didn't like me selling WMDs. They seem more interested in peace and might not want to have to fight wars.

So I think I'll go for Ninjao for now.

This is a kinda confusing case. You're trying to blend RP and regional activity, and they're like oil and water.

Not really, I don't think. On the basis of how I want to RP, I'm trying to select a region where the resident nations offer a consistent rationale for my nation wanting to have them as neighbours.

In particular, I'm looking at RPing a corporation rather than a _nation_ as such, so it makes far more sense for me to be thinking along these lines if you look at it in light of that: "Should I have my head office in Europe or the Pacific Rim?", so to speak

I see no point in assuming that the regions are irrelevant to the RP aspect. Otherwise there's no point in having regions (or even nations) at all and NS might as well be a truly freeform RP. The fact that they _are_ there implies, to me at least, that they are relevant to my 'nation' and, therefore' an important factor in the RP aspect of the whole experience.
