Three of us (Thel DRan, Gasponia, and Erastide) decided to make a real life NS Monopoly game. We changed the rules, modified the board, the tokens, everything geared towards NS. I wanted a chance to show off the pictures of it, so here we go. :)

That is some kinda win right there.

Gaspo and Eras decided which spaces would be called by which region names. Every element of the board design was decided by we three as a committee.

With the exception of the "DEAT" button, the actual art involved on the board was taken from NS or from Google searches. The property colors are a screen capture match for the real Monopoly game, as described by Wikipedia.

The board was "assembled" in Photoshop 7.0 at 300 dpi resolution and in a working document 40 inches square. It was reduced to 19.5 inches square for printing (done at Staples). The font used was Helvetica Narrow.

The money is very close to 2 by 4 inches and printed on a sheets from a variety pack of parchment style papers. Apart from the JenGov image on the bills, everything else is fontplay —*using Cast Iron, Kitchen Tile, and Victorian Window for the elements. This was also done in Photoshop.

The property deed cards were Gaspo's work. The "Issues" and "UN Resolution" cards were done by Eras. I don't know what programs they used.

The player pieces were ordered from Eureka Miniatures because that company seems to specialize in odd. In the early stages, Eras had asked me to sculpt the individual parts. I'd probably still be working on the second one if that's the path we'd taken.

You'll have to ask Eras where the hats and houses came from.

Edit: With regard to the property cards and the Issue/UN Resolution cards, they were all done in Microsoft Word, then converted to PDFs to assure compatibility at the printing place.

The three of us, by the way, live in three different corners of the US, all at least 500 miles apart. All of this was done using AIM, IRC, Google Docs and Spreadsheets, and somewhat over the phone. Eras did the final assembly, after Thel shipped her the money and the printout of the new game board, and I provided the cards and a new copy of Monopoly to steal the money sorter, houses, and a board to put ours on top of. The project took over a month from inception to the final product, and went through several revisions. The original idea is far from what you see today, but this is much more developed, and is actually playable. It orginally was swamped with inside jokes, chaos, and other such hilarities, but after a lot of editing and revision, it's not only very cool, but very very playable.

Oh, how about a card that rewards you for making it into the top 100 posters on the forums? That's inspecific and all of us in the top 100 would feel oh so special for being tacitly mentioned.

Yeah, I think most people who are making suggestions, like myself, are just being playful and are excited about the project. You guys did a great job and that cannot be said clearly enough. I think, unsurprisingly, that some generalites might find it a little game-centric, but given NS is a game first, it seems more than appropriate.

Also, since we're talking about projects. I was talking to GnI recently and I was inspired to make up a mythology that serves the same purpose of some of the ancient mythologies in providing an explanation for our gaps in knowledge. Recently, it occurred to me that the 'world' in which I set that mythology must necessarily be made up and, as such, why not use the world of NSG. What would Max think about an NSG mythology?

Did I mention how powerfully awesome this is? I mean, come on, it has a dinosaur!

Thus far we've released the source documents for all the cards, and the money is on the way. We hadn't considered releasing the board, but I'll bring it up with Thel and Eras and see what they think.

wow, pretty sweet.

I've just forwarded the gif files of the seven sheets of money to Gaspo (in hopes that he'll convert them pdf format). The values are: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 500. For Max's set, they were printed in to match the number of bills provided for each denomination in an official Monopoly set. If you print your own you can make as many as you like.

Ampad makes a variety pack of stationary with Gray Marble, Blue Marble, Granite Gray, Granite White, Granite Rose, Granite Cream, Parchment Celadon, and Parchment White. The stock number for this is #35236 and (at five bills per page) allows for 125 of each, with 25 pages of the unused color. I honestly forget precisely which styles were used for Max's set but if you really want to match his copy in making your own you can use the photos as a guide.

My region isn't on there... and as far as I know there's no card about losing influence after being ortilleried by elves in gravships... but there's an elf token, so I'm happy. ;)

I'd be very appreciative if the board was released.
