The Game Mod Olympics: most boring ever?

[violet]
06-09-2006, 05:05
Word on the street was that this could be the worst Game Mod Olympics ever. "Pff," people said. "Game Mod Olympics? You mean the Frisbeeteria Olympics. Who wants to pay good money to watch Fris belt the living crap out of whoever comes near? If I wanted to see an uncompetitive mismatch between grossly mismatched opponents, I'd stay at home and beat my children."

Certainly Frisbeeteria's dominance of recent Mod Olympics (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=477352) was indisputable. Despite brave showings from the other athletes, in particular Katganistan, Frisbeeteria had run rampant, finishing some events running backwards, just to show off. And the less said about the buttocks-wiggling incident, the better.

To avoid the ugly sight of empty stadiums on international TV, organizers herded the city's homeless inside, prompting some commentators to remark that this was surely the least fragrant Games of all time. By the time the moderators emerged, large sections of the crowd were asleep, facing the wrong way, or accusing each other of stealing.

Those few in the crowd who were actually there for the performances noticed Katganistan was wearing a sleek black head-to-toe bodysuit, complete with little wiggly cat ears. Some believed that this was the latest in aerodynamic sports engineering, while others said, "I dunno, man... I just think she's really into cats."

But now the time has come! As per tradition, first up is the UN events:

--- UN Cheat Checks ---
1573 : Frisbeeteria
867 : Katganistan
859 : Euroslavia
128 : Reploid Productions
105 : Sirocco
68 : Scolopendra
55 : SalusaSecondus
44 : The Most Glorious Hack
3 : GMC Military Arms

--- UN Ejections ---
893 : Frisbeeteria
458 : Katganistan
315 : Euroslavia
64 : Sirocco
29 : The Most Glorious Hack
29 : Scolopendra
26 : SalusaSecondus
24 : Reploid Productions
5 : GMC Military Arms

--- UN Proposals Removed ---
530 : The Most Glorious Hack
526 : Frisbeeteria
90 : Euroslavia
8 : Sirocco
2 : Scolopendra

--- UN Warnings Issued ---
203 : Frisbeeteria
130 : Katganistan
45 : Euroslavia
6 : Reploid Productions
4 : Scolopendra
2 : SalusaSecondus

The crowd yawns as one, as Frisbeeteria smashes them in "UN Cheat Checks," flattens them in "UN Ejections," crushes all comers in "UN Warnings Issued," and misses gold in "UN Proposals Removed" only because he stops to sign autographs! Yes, clearly it's going to be another one of those days. While Frisbeeteria begins to audibly speculate on where exactly he's going to find room for yet another trophy, patrons begin to talk amongst themselves, wondering whether it might be possible to sell their tickets for the other events, what might be on TV, and how likely they are to get out of the stadium with their wallets.

Frisbeeteria: 3 gold, 1 silver
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold
Katganistan: 3 silver
Euroslavia: 4 bronze

Then it's on to the Life & Death events! Amnesty International calls it "a monsterous travesty against all humanity," but you can't argue with the ratings!

--- Nations Deleted ---
1614 : Frisbeeteria
1146 : Katganistan
98 : Euroslavia
73 : GMC Military Arms
63 : Pythagosaurus
55 : Sirocco
41 : Scolopendra
41 : The Most Glorious Hack
33 : SalusaSecondus
2 : Reploid Productions

--- Nations Restored ---
2665 : Katganistan
1982 : Frisbeeteria
881 : Euroslavia
140 : Scolopendra
114 : Sirocco
75 : The Most Glorious Hack
47 : Reploid Productions
14 : GMC Military Arms
7 : Melkor Unchained
7 : SalusaSecondus
4 : Pythagosaurus

As officials began lifting the fallen bodies into sacks and carrying them off the field, Frisbeeteria pumps his fists in victory. But is his bravado for real? Spectators can't help noticing that in "Nations Restored," Katganistan not only beat him, but did so resoundingly. As Frisbeeteria nervously eyes Katganistan's little cat ears, which are fluttering delightfully in the breeze, the word starts to go out: we may have a contest here.

Frisbeeteria: 4 gold, 2 silver
Katganistan: 1 gold, 4 silver
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold
Euroslavia: 6 bronze

Let's find out!

--- Daily Issues Edited ---
3 : Sirocco

--- Telegrams Sent ---
1980 : Frisbeeteria
1598 : Katganistan
370 : Euroslavia
239 : The Most Glorious Hack
136 : Sirocco
108 : Scolopendra
15 : GMC Military Arms

11 : SalusaSecondus
1 : Pythagosaurus

--- Warnings Issued ---
3149 : Katganistan
3123 : Frisbeeteria
488 : Euroslavia
244 : The Most Glorious Hack
129 : Sirocco
102 : Scolopendra
50 : GMC Military Arms
39 : SalusaSecondus
29 : Reploid Productions
2 : Pythagosaurus

Everyone but Sirocco gets confused about when the "Issues" event is meant to start, and as a result he sweeps it. Frisbeeteria, looking noticably sharper and more focused, cleans up in "Telegrams Sent," but is pipped by Katganistan in "Warnings Issued" by the barest of margins!

Meanwhile Euroslavia picks up his eighth bronze medal, a remarkable achievement, and one that causes commentators to flick through the record books, looking for the most medals ever won by a competitor who failed to score higher than bronze.

Frisbeeteria: 5 gold, 3 silver
Katganistan: 2 gold, 5 silver
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold
Sirocco: 1 gold
Euroslavia: 8 bronze

We're at the pointy end now, with just the Watchlist, Help Requests, and Overall events left!

--- Watchlist Modifications ---
444 : Katganistan
395 : Frisbeeteria
16 : GMC Military Arms
9 : Euroslavia
5 : The Most Glorious Hack
2 : Scolopendra

--- Help Requests Dealt With ---
4804 : Katganistan
4449 : Frisbeeteria
723 : Euroslavia
400 : Scolopendra
280 : Sirocco
210 : The Most Glorious Hack
79 : Reploid Productions
59 : GMC Military Arms

--- Help Requests Resolved ---
4147 : Katganistan

163 : Sirocco
96 : The Most Glorious Hack
39 : Reploid Productions
20 : GMC Military Arms
10 : SalusaSecondus
1 : Melkor Unchained
1 : Pythagosaurus

Katganistan flies home in all three! This is extraordinary! With only a single event remaining, Frisbeeteria and Katganistan each have five gold medals! The final event will decide the winner!

Frisbeeteria: 5 gold, 6 silver
Katganistan: 5 gold, 5 silver
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold
Sirocco: 1 gold
Euroslavia: 10 bronze
GMC Military Arms: 1 bronze

Spectators who sold their tickets now frantically try to buy them back, at grossly inflated prices. The eyes of the world turn to watch: is this the moment that Frisbeeteria is finally unseated?

--- All Moderator Actions ---
35672 : Frisbeeteria
30718 : Katganistan
6985 : Euroslavia
2718 : The Most Glorious Hack
2362 : Sirocco

No! It's not! In an inspiring contest, Frisbeeteria beats Katganistan for the final gold! And that means he once again wins the Games! It was the result everyone expected, but, in a complete surprise, by only the barest of margins.

All credit to Katganistan, who breathed new life into the competition and came agonizingly close to walking away with the ultimate prize. The crowd stand to applaud both her and Frisbeeteria. And there's a special cheer for crowd favorite Euroslavia, who's claimed a record-breaking, jaw-dropping 11 bronze medals.

Frisbeeteria: 6 gold, 6 silver (last time: 10-1-0)
Katganistan: 5 gold, 6 silver (2-7-2)
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold (0-1-0)
Sirocco: 1 gold (1-0-0)
Euroslavia: 11 bronze (0-3-8)
GMC Military Arms: 1 bronze (0-0-1)

It's been almost five months since the last Game Mod Olympics, during which time 83,213 moderator actions were made and 11,026 help requests from players processed. The fact that the mods do this day after day and year after year shouldn't take away from the fact that they are truly amazing numbers.

Congratulations and thank you to all mods!

I call on the Mod Olympics Commitee to test Fris for performance-enhancers!

for all seriousness though. Great job guys. It got close there near the end, but Fris won it in the end.

I notice that Kat had the edge in all the warm, caring, helping, nurturing, kind events (well, giving someone a warning so they'll stop before they get into really big trouble is kinda kind, isn't it?).

Now I'm trying to think of a comment that doesn't (a) perpetuate sexist stereotypes, (b) suggest that Fris is cruel, hard and unfeeling and (c) generally get me offside with everyone.

I wish I hadn't noticed that.

Frisbeteeria's smashing victory comes as no surprise here in La Republica, but many fans of Melkor were disappointed to the point that the National Registry of National Health Care Concerns has petitioned to hospitalize Melkor and see just wth is wrong with him because we lost a lot of money on him this time and ACK HELP, MAFIA

Oh well, the question I asked last time still stands, at 83,213 moderator actions, do you guys do anything else? ;)

Did the GM job for three months. Never qualified for the Olympics. It's all too commercial now, you can't make it unless you get the sponsorship. :(

Ye Gods, Fris, no wonder you left UNOG if this is what you've been saving your energy for. And still Kat nearly pips you!

Those stats don't say it all, HC. Sure, Enodia only got one gold during all his time, but he won it with more proposals deleted than just about all the other mods combined. Plus he only competed in one Mod Olympics.

Yeah, I think a couple of the oldest Olympics (from before they were called such... the very first was themed after the Academy Awards if memory serves) have been lost to the forum demons =< Which sucks, because I know I dominated a couple of the early ones.

EDIT: Hey, I think I did find one of the forgotten Olympics!

Reploid Productions: 3 gold, 1 silver

Enodia: 1 gold
Scolopendra: 1 silver, 2 bronze
The SLAGLands: 1 silver
GMC: 1 silver
SalusaSecondus: 1 bronze

And this one wasn't marked Olympics in the topic, but it is one:

Since I move my lips when I read I am now stuck with the phrase Gay Mod Olympics (instead of Game Mod Olympics) stuck in my head. I blame Violet for this. Congrats Fris! Im putting my money on Kat by a whisker in the next Olympiad though.
