Yes? Yes! YES! Game Mod Olympics!

[violet]

Talk ran hot leading into this Olympics, as it became clear that last time (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418457)'s record-breaking winner, Myrth, was not going to see out the whole event. With his early exit, who would step up? Would Scolopendra return with an even bigger exoskeleton? Would Sirocco, always up there amongst the leaders, snatch the ultimate glory? Would a new champion emerge from among the fresh-faced challengers? And who can write off Reppy, Cogitation, or any of the long-time proven performers?

As usual, Game Mods enter the arena to the sound of all their national anthems being played simultaneously, creating the unique mood that listeners can only describe as "cacophonous" (CD in stores now). It's handshakes all round, then they line up for the first series of events: the UN Challenges!

Stunning performances from Frisbeeteria and Katganistan, the new kids on the block, to snatch the top two places in three out of four UN events! Flexing their young, toned bodies, they are clearly going to push their elders to their limits. But Hack has made a strong start... can he keep it up?

Frisbeeteria: 3 gold, 1 silver
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold, 1 bronze
Katganistan: 3 silver
Sirocco: 3 bronze

With barely a pause for breath, rehydration, and intimate massage, it's into the life & death events...

Once again the young whelps set the pace! Frisbeeteria destroys twice as many nations as anyone else, while Katganistan shows her warm, caring side by reviving the most. Sirocco proves the best of the rest, continuing to cement his well-deserved reputation as an endurance athlete.

Sirocco picks up his traditional gold medal in the Issues event (but only just), but otherwise the pattern continues. With growing confidence, Fris increases his lead, scoring an incredible twice as heavily in Telegrams and Warnings as second-placed Kat.

Frisbeeteria: 6 gold, 2 silver
Katganistan: 1 gold, 6 silver
Sirocco: 1 gold, 7 bronze
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold, 1 bronze
Reploid Productions: 1 silver

It's hard to see anyone heading off Frisbeeteria from here! But as we head into the final round of events, the all-important Tasks, all other positions on the dias are all still up for grabs.

Fris! Fris! Fris! The crowd goes wild as Frisbeeteria picks up three more gold, which--wait for the official confirmation--yes, there it is! Frisbeeteria has equalled Myrth's record of nine gold and two silvers! Unbelievable!

Katganistan romps in for silvers in all three events, and--you guessed it--Sirocco cleans up the bronzes. There are strong performances from other mods, particularly Scolopendra and Cogitation, but this day belongs to the new mods on the block!

Frisbeeteria: 9 gold, 2 silver (last time: Did Not Compete)
Katganistan: 1 gold, 9 silver (DNC)
Sirocco: 1 gold, 10 bronze (2-6-1)
The Most Glorious Hack: 1 gold, 1 bronze (1-2-0)
Reploid Productions: 1 silver (0-1-1)

Never before have so many medals been shared by so few competitors. And Sirocco has now raked in 42 medals over the last 4 Olympics, a truly incredible effort.

Since May 11 this year, Game Mods have performed 104,345 actions. They recently dealt with the 42,000th lodged request for help. These are mind-boggling numbers, and make it clear just how important they are to the smooth running of this site. So thank a mod today!

Well done mods!

Congratulations! Go Fris! Go Kat! It seems that newbies are really good at proving their worth.

Now we just have to see whether they're able to continue holding their weight.

Computers. Both home and office. I've tried to keep it down to under 18 hours online per day.
Frisbeeteria needs some proper competition!
Don't sell the Kat short. If I had her RL schedule, I doubt I'd have made it halfway to where she placed. She's tough.

It scares me just a tad that someone has all that information. Oh well.

Congrats to the Moderators. You sure do a hell of a lot of work. Without you, this place would be the online version of Somalia. Thankee.:)

Yeah, well, you can yell all you like for the first past the post -- and not to take anything away from him, Fris is definitely a showy performer, with those lovable personality quirks that make him a real crowd-pleaser -- but there comes a time when style has to be taken into account.

I mean, look at Kat in action: the grace, the sureness! Every fibre of her being concentrated on just that one instant, that vital second! Fris may surpass her for speed, but Kat's performance has classic lines.

Such as the following ...

That's only because the hard behind the scenes stuff you do is classified top secret. ;)

W00t! Congrats to everyone who won medals. Frisbee, Kat, Sirocco... I'm just wondering, what exactly do you do in your spare time? :p

Anyway, congratulations again, and yes, I am just glad I wasn't one of the nations on the "Nations Deleted" list, considering my recent "friction" with the mod squad... (I wonder what I was high on that day. Maybe I forgot to take my anti-depressants or something. )

Congrats to the lot of you, and good job.

Lol, anywho...Good Job Mods! Congradulations and Good Days to you all. Thanks for all your hard work, and thanks for helping us keep the Boards safe. I know I may be stereotypical, but hell this is just an amazing achievement! I know I've been close to being a number on those lists a few times, and I'm glad I'm still around.

Don't worry, even the Mods and Admins who didn't get there are still supported. Ya'll did a Good Job.

Because of RL events and other oddities, the promotions came in mid-cycle rather than at the end.

Anyone remember when I predicted Friss as the next Myrth? And who is this Scolopendra? And still curious as to where Myrth went, I was gone during when he left.
