Initially there were lacklustre ticket sales in the lead up to this Game Mod Olympics, attributable to Scolopendra's remarkable dominance the last time this event was held (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=394875). After all, who wants to watch Scolopendra (wearing, don't forget, that formidable exoskeleton) pound one hapless competitor after another into the dirt? Just his small but dedicated band of crazed groupies, one would imagine.

Then the rumors began to ripple through: there was a new kid in town, a kid with a steely glint in his eye and a bag of new tricks. Myrth, NationStates's newest Game Mod, was said to be ready to take it right up to the reigning champ. Suddenly, interest bloomed. Ticket sales ran hot. Even Scolopendra's groupies began to look nervous. Maybe there was a real competition here after all.

So here we are! As is traditional, the Olympics gets cracking with the UN events:

The crowd gasps! Scolopendra has clearly spent too much time in the arms of his adoring fans and not enough on the training track, and is left gasping as others power past. And none fleeter than Myrth, who beats out all comers in three out of four events, and takes silver in the fourth! What an amazing start!

A truly stunning performance from the whippersnapper. But also awe-inspiring is Sirocco's effort to rack up 9 medals, which takes him to an incredible 31 from the last three Olympics. Clearly a distance performer! Sirocco has been there over the long haul.

All our mods put in amazing efforts, day in, day out, to keep this site ticking over, and all deserve to take a bow. Since February they've performed over 51,500 moderator actions, and dealt with almost 10,000 individual player requests for help. Thank you mods!!!

[Edit/Update]: Corruption amongst Olympic officials uncovered! Myrth was awarded a silver that should have gone to Reppy. Sackings all round!
