Ah, to think it was October last time we ran the Game Mod Olympics. It was warmer then, much warmer, unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere, in which case it was colder. Or if you live near the equator, it'd be pretty much the same. But that's not important. The important thing is that it's the first Game Mod Olympics of 2005!
(For your convenience, here's the thread for the last Olympics (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=365316).)
This time there's controversy right from the start. As Scolopendra peels off his tracksuit, the crowd gasps at the sight of his bulging biceps, his trembling triceps, and his... uh... quietly impressive quadraceps. Steroids? Some kind of genetic enhancement? A huge, realistic-looking exoskeleton piloted by the actual Scolo? All seem entirely plausible. So as the genetically enhanced, steroid-taking, Scolopendra exoskeleton strides to the first event, cracking the ground and causing nearby babies to burst into tears, the other competitors know they're in for a tough battle.

Amazing! Scolopendra steams through the first two events, brushing aside all challengers. Then, however, he has to stop to vent all that steam from his exoskeleton, and Hack powers ahead to grab two golds.
After the UN events, it's Hack and the three Senior Game Mods with most of the medals:
Scolopendra: 2 gold, 1 bronze
The Most Glorious Hack: 2 gold
Sirocco: 3 silver, 1 bronze
Reploid Productions: 1 silver, 1 bronze
Cogitation: 1 bronze

While Scolopendra scales back up to full power, Hack snatches a third gold! And in the prized "Nations Deleted" event, too, after which contestants receive their medals on a dias made of skulls. As popular as it is tasteful. Ineptia again shines as the Bringer of Life, but not as brightly as Scolo, nor Sirocco, who is building up quite the silverware collection.

Not much action in the "Issues Accepted" category, and in both the other two events, it's (1) Scolo (2) Hack (3) Sirocco! This gives Scolo his first real break on Hack, but there are still the crucial Tasklist events to go. And Sirocco has more medals than anybody!
Scolopendra: 5 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
The Most Glorious Hack: 3 gold, 2 silver

It's a slaughter, with Scolopendra tossing the hapless bodies of his competitors around like rag dolls, then forcing the dolls into compromising poses, just to make it extra embarrassing. There are excellent performances from other mods, but it's hard to recognize this when Scolo is jumping up and down on their twitching bodies.
And that's it! The final medal tally:
Scolopendra: 8 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze (last time: 5-2-0)
The Most Glorious Hack: 3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze (0-0-1)
Sirocco: 1 gold, 7 silver, 3 bronze (6-5-0)
Reploid Productions: 2 silver, 3 bronze (0-1-1)
Cogitation: 1 bronze (1-1-3)
GMC Military Arms: 1 bronze (0-0-1)
Ineptia: 1 bronze (0-0-1)
A record-breaking 8 golds from Scolo is truly amazing, as is Sirocco's grand total of 11 medals (for the second Olympics in a row). And what about Hack, who went from 1 bronze last time to a fistfull of medals today?
Now for promotions! I am pleased to announce we have two. First, Melkor Unchained has proven he's back on the scene, so his position of Senior Game Moderator is hereby restored. The young 'uns among you may not know that Melkor was our first mod, and, as he will tell you if you give him the chance, he once moderated the entire site by himself for six weeks. Last year he went quiet for a while, during which he dropped down to regular Game Mod, but it's high time he got his Seniorship back. It's very well-deserved.
Secondly, Myrth has served admirably in the forums and has, foolishly or otherwise, agreed to take up the mantle of Game Moderator. So expect to see him in the next Olympics!
And keep an eye out for Hack -- a very strong performer this time around. Definitely one to watch.
To all our mods, forum and game, a huge thank you and congratulations on a fantastic job. There were over 84,000 game mod actions in the last four months, which is astounding (and well up on the last Olympics), especially since it doesn't even include forum moderation. THANK YOU MODS!
