Well, kind of. Today we have the THIRD NOT-QUITE PERIODIC MOD OLYMPICS, plus some promotions, and a reassignment thrown in. Whoo! Exciting times, exciting times.

First, it is my pleasure to announce two big promotions. In recognition of outstanding service over a significant period, Scolopendra is hereby promoted from Game Moderator to Senior Game Moderator. And for an enormous amount of technical work behind the scenes that nobody ever sees, SalusaSecondus is promoted to Game Admin. Well done guys!

Now for a reassignment. Oftentimes a mod will be very active for a while, then, as their RL circumstances change, change down a gear. Titles should reflect a mod's current role, not their past service, so from now on if a mod becomes less active, his/her title will change accordingly. This is not by any means a demotion or punishment, just a reflection of the mod's current availibility. Thus, Melkor Unchained, one of the game's original mods but less active these days, is moving from Senior Game Moderator to Game Moderator.

This means we now have just two Senior Game Moderators -- Reploid Productions and Scolopendra -- but both are highly active.

As you are no doubt aware, DEN is no great fan of moderators in this game, and has stated rather unequivocally our belief that the idea of a neutral, unbiased moderator is a fantasy. When I see something like this in the NS forum, it confirms, unfortunately, much of what I suspected.

It's not really a competition.....it's more of an update on the mods activity, which in theory is to help keep them in check as opposed to the opposite. I suppose I could be wrong about that though....

The Mod Olympics are just a transparency statement, presented in a light-hearted way. If we really wanted to compete on number of nations ejected from the UN / deleted / etc, there would be no game left within a week. :roll:

But, really, folks, TacGrace is right. It's all about transparency. We work as a team to accomplish tasks, not as some sort of fight to the top. If one of us can handle it, the one does; if the one is busy, he or she asks others to help or take care of it. We coordinate all the time on multi sweeps and whenever we get obnoxious spammers, and we coordinate on difficult tasks, getting second opinions and alternate analyses.

We do our best to act justly, and this is [violet]'s way to show a) what we do, b) how much we do it, and c) a sorta nice pat-on-the-back for effort. It's a gold-star sticker on yer forehead as per the Basque fairy tale. I'll wear mine proudly.

When did the counting start for the Mod Olympics? In other words, is this lifetime deats, restorations, etc., or just the number in a certain period? I'm assuming the latter, because I'm pretty sure that Neut has deleted more than 58 nations since he became a mod.

Well, I'm surpised at how things have turned around. All the mods that I 'know', such as Neut, Hack etc have gone way down....
