After the smashage (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2926058#2926058) by the ASholes last cup, this years cup has been made out of stainless steel by one of TnUIs leading artists. The bull shaped trophy has two deep red ruby eyes and is approximately 1 metre in length.

(stealing ideas from one of the dear departed....)

Baby Crocodiles take flight

It was the first time outside the country for most of the teenagers who make up Tanah Burung's first youth team. With many young players already on the senior national team, this is an under-18 line-up, not known for its discipline. truth be told, many of them care more about their hair styles than their style fo play: maybe that's the influence of the Baby Crocs coach, oreadest.

The former Errinundrian star is known for his devotion to youth footballing and has combed the jungles for promising talent. Wearing his hair in an upswept black and red bouffant adorned with six solar-powered lamps meant top represent stars, oreadest always attracted hundreds of aspiring footballers when he visited the remotest villages.

The young Orange-Blues are back and try to pass group stage this time. Perhaps it was a bit unlucky that the deciding game was exactly after the day when the Orange-Blues became world champion. well, even the best team can't play when they have a serious hangover.

The team is playing in 'System Jesejil' (a 5-4-1).

The Insane Dome was filled with fans of each of the nations taking part. Each section of the stadium was a different colour. The fans cheered as all 32 teams took to the field and some fireworks were let off, but it didn't really compare to its bigger brother the World Cup.

IFA Unnamed Mass: "I'd like to thank all the teams for coming to the Second Under 21 Championship. There are some bright stars here, that'll go on to shine even brighter at the World Cup in a few years. I..."

*guy runs on stage and steals the mike*

Unnamed HOMO guy: "Stop the propaganda! Free the masses!"

As the Halfassed Gales boarded the plane for TnUI and the under-21 WC, the draw for the group stage was announced.

The Gales are in Group G playing against Nikea, Keyshona and Peruland and all the matches will be played in the 27,425 capacity Squitty Ground, home of Squittingham Forest.

Peter Piper, manager of the Borderers side in the HFL, was given the honour of coaching the Gales. He has picked a squad of 22 that will travel to the event, and although no-one knows exactly who will be in the first team, from the make-up of the squad, it seems likly that Piper will be going for a 3-4-3 formation against Nikea in the opening game and throughout the tournament.
Whether this adventurous tactic will pay off we will have to wait and see!

(will get a line-up sorted out soon!)

From the depths of the same program to build future footballing superstars which saw the tremendously successful Cannon Seven, comes another name to look out for; Horace Urk.

Not quite as successful as the Cannon Seven have been to date, Horace Urk is a half-Zucchini/half-Brazillican bred by cross-breeding Urk and a drunken Brazillican college sorority member. Breeding between Zucchinis and Brazillicans has pretty much been proven unsuccessful with this experiment, as this big, green dude shows none of the skill, flair or coordination the legendary Urk displays. He's just big and green. And intimidates other players. You could almost call him a goon. Did we mention he has no skill whatever? That's why he's on the back line.

U21 SQUAD ANNOUNCED
Ian Question-Mark reports

After finishing a promising third place at the last World Under-21 Championships, the Young Druids will be looking to do even better this time around with a new squad of players brought through by former Druids midfielder James Lee. Only two of the players in the squad this time round went to the last championships, those being Trevor Jones and Trevor Welsh. However, many of the players involved have played prominent roles at club level, and none more so than Bill Stickers, who has shone for South Grayside in their push for promotion this season. Noteably, there are seven platers in this squad that are sixteen or under, including four in the starting eleven.

Controversially, there are places for all six of Parkville's young Righteous Brothers, though how many of them are going to make an appearance, or actually deserve their place, is another matter. It is thought that they are only in the squad because Coach James Lee has recently had a relationship with their mother, former field hockey "star" Leanne Righteous. However, as they have all been signed up by NEWI Cefn Druids' biggest club Parkville FC, there must be at least some talent there.

The squad in full...

1. Phil Righteous (19, GK, Parkville)
2. Steve Trevor (19, RB, Cefn Athletic)
3. Trevor Righteous (16, LB, Parkville)
4. Ron Lambeale (16, CB, Inter Dave)
5. Trevor Fox (20, CB, Kirkanden)
6. Juan Paolo Trevor (19, MF, Trevor City)
7. Trevor Jones (20, RW, Inter Dave)
8. Trevor Welsh (19, MF, Cefn Albion)
9. Liam Gessemschmitthaagen-Po (18, CF, Port Scadock Ramblers)
10. Bill Stickers (16, CF, South Grayside)
11. Garth Righteous (16, LW, Parkville)

12. Tony Righteous (15, CF, Parkville)
13. Tobias Righteous (17, RW, Parkville)
14. Ron Righteous (14, CF, Parkville)
15. Yvan Smith (20, GK, Mawr Town)
16. Trevor Turney (19, CB, Huwdaey)
17. Trevor Taylor (20, MF, Cefn Albion)
18. Garth Moore (20, CB, Graymouth)
19. Trevor Dinage (19, RB, Zobordi Cefn)
20. Trevor Richards-Whiteley (16, MF, Llllllllllcwllllllll Rovers)

Elsewhere in the championship, An egg, famous for beating the Druid first team after WC11 and full international for Just an egg during WC13 qualifying, has impressed enough to represent Kaze Progressa at U21 level, making it onto their bench here. Despite being a full international, the egg was laid at some point during WC11, and is therefore only about eight years old, making it eligible to play here. An egg, who plays it's club football for Cefn Bus Station in the NEWI Cefn Druids Second Division, was laid in Kaze Progressa, and so is eligible to play for them.

HSMG Newsflash:

The Halfassed under 21 side could not match the acheivements of the full side in their opening game junior WC.
The Gales struggled in their first ever competitive match together, and went down 3-0 against a good Nikean side that should progress well in the competition.
Despite the defeat, coach Peter Piper remained upbeat. "The kids have done well to-day, the final score doesn't really reflect the way the game went, but its a learning curve for the team. They did show some good touches and with a couple of games together, i feel many in this side will progress to the full national squad."
Highlights of the game will be shown later on 'Game of the Day' after coverage of the Hurricanes game against the ORD Wolves.

Squires vanquish gools

The Jeruselem Squires unexpectly defeated Mattigool 1-0 in a tight opening game of the U21 World Cup 2. Jeruselem is the underdog in Group H with the big names Giant Zucchini and Audioslavia competing.

An opening goal to Jeruselem in the 7th minute against the game trend underscored the rest of the game with Mattigool unable to get past the defensive tactics of the Squires who replaced strikers with defenders for the last 15 minutes.

Some unhappy Mattigool fans went home after provoking their team "Whose afraid of the Jews?".

Brazillican side tops Dennish 3-2 in opening match of U-21 World Cup

Brazillico finally made amends for their shocking 2-1 loss at home to the Dennish in World Cup 4, beating Dennisov in the first encounter between the two nations since the aforementioned World Cup. Brazillico raced out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to two quick goals in the 12th and 19th Minutes. However, Dennisov pulled one back in the 32nd Minute, thanks to a clever volley by Frija.

During the 53rd Minute, Frija played a harmless chip on net which Goalkeeper Ibanez handled with ease. While jogging out of the box and back towards the midfield area, Horace Urk slewfooted the Dennish striker, earning him a yellow card and the Dennish side a penalty. Reuland made no mistake from the spot, thumping it past Ibanez and squaring the match up at two.

However, Brazillico would not be denied on this day. A good cross played in by Gary Pollo in the 76th Minute was met by an Octavio Quintana head, beating the keeper, but bouncing off the upright. Fortunately for the Baby Bats, the one-named wonder, Bob, was in the right place at the right time and tapped the incoming ball into the Dennish net. The final score would remain 3-2.

eleven audioslavians stand around on a field in TnUI. Theyre all feeling smug as their team is world champions in this paticular brand of football, and they still have their diplomatic immunity from last time round. They hear a roar. It is a GZ player, sticking the ball in the Audioslavian net.

Fan 1: What are they doing?

Fan 2: Looks like they are lining up for penalty kicks on both sides?

Fan 1: The game just started?!?!

Fan 2: Dunno, but Clearwater got their first one through.

Fan 1: Eagle's Nest got theirs...are we tied?

Fan 2: Yeah I think so...scoreboard says 1-1

Fan 1: Wierd, the refs are even looking at this strange.

Fan 2: Clearwater got that one blocked, and the ball got kicked up to the other side.....Nest scored the goal 2-1 Nest.

Fan 1: Ok, the ball goes to the center and the Clearwater takes it....um, if this is penalty kicks are all 11 allowed in the box?

Fan 2: No..they aren't...wait a minute...I think Clearwater just got scammed.

Fan 1: This is going to be a boring match now.

Fan 2: yep.

(The remaining 88 minutes watched Clearwater try to get the ball past the 0-0-11 formation the rest of the game. The Nest won 2-1)

The Bedistan Football Association has refused to allow any reporters to interview anyone involved in the Cubs' first U21WC2 match against Creedence Clearwater or to even talk about the match at all. We were able to determine that the Cubs got their asses handed to them in the worst defeat in Bedistani history -- 5-1. It is rumored that the fact that Bedistan's U21 team still only has seven players might be part of the reason for the defeat.

From the KaMaRi Update (han'ines KMR) - international edition

Young Orange-Blues drew against Irafmas
The young Orange-Blues found themselfes in a tough qualification group with the Brittanins, Ravenspire and their favorite opponent: Kaze Progressa. The Progressans gave the Orange-Blues and Orange-Whites a hard time in several other competitions so even if that match was the first match, it already had certain aspects of a derby.

The rejistanian line-up had no surprises. Jetta'he normally lets the starters start and not the subs. The progressan line-up also had no surprises: Every single player who started had the name 'Faiwe Irafma'. The high number of ligatnians in the team didn't surprisingly result in lower quality or many fouls. The team apparently wanted to prova all prejudices wrong and played fair and tactically, not chaotic with the occasional foul. In the first minutes, the progressan attack was chanceless against the strong rejis defense. Faiwe Irafma had a good chance in the 7th minute, but was stopped by someone, who is also named after a soccer legend: Syku Lyku. In the 16th minute, a misunderstanding between Inxe Dy and Kansu Ji gave Faiwe Irafma a great chance, which Faiwe Irafma converted. The Progressans were up 1-0. The Orange-Blues didn't become crazy and risk a higher trailing through senseless and chaotic attacks. But they used the few chances they had for good counters. In the 27th minute, that clever play was proved successfull: Idine Takil (not related to Laxtu Takil) equalized after an assist by karelian Eha Si. When everyone expected the first half to end 1-1, the Orange-Blues started one of their rare attacks. Faiwe Irafma and Faiwe Irafme were outsmarted by Xeran Susu (not related to Xkeliko Susu), Faiwe Irafma tried to avoid the worst, but lacked the right amount of luck to stop Eha Si, who shot the ball into the upper left corner of the goal, unreachable for Faiwe Irafma. the second half had one big surprise: Faiwe Irafma was substituted for Alan Belmore and Faiwe Irafma was substituted for Alan Belmore. This two players, apparently related to TBF or with parents who were big fans of Alan Belmore, added one important thing to the game: The possibility to distinguish the progressan players. But even two Alan Belmores could not get past the defense of the young Orange-Blues. In the 76th minute however, a qustionable decision of the referee from Hash n Beans led to a free kick for the Progressans. Faiwe Irafma's shot found the head of Faiwe Irafma and he took the chance to equalize the score again. Syku Rajes could not reach the ball. The rest of the second half saw the 9 Irafmas and 2 Belmores and the 11 Rejistanians unable to archieve any good chance.

The result:
Rejistania 2 (Takil 27th, Ri 44th)
Kaze Progressa 2 (Irafma 16th, Irafma 76th)

The Valerian Dukes Toasted by Kerla

The Valerian Empire, after the death of Alexander I, one of the most oddest emperors to ever wear the crown, now has an Under 21 League. This league is a league that will find new talent to develop and to eventually plug into the Valerian Boyars, the national team of Valeria. In the goal for the Valerian Dukes is the son of two immigrants from Iansisle. He is Daniel de Sackville. The young football talent is regarded as a worthy contender for GK in the Valerian Boyars once he has matured to the right age. Iansisle is known for its rather decent football players.

GK - 1. Daniel de Sackville (17, Metaxas)
LB - 2. Ioannis Kapadistras (20, Valerius Prime)
CD - 3. Tibalto Rocini (16, Alexandria)
CD - 4. Johann Niebeljem (19, Baden)
RB - 3. Vincent Fratelli (18, Charleroi)
LW - 4. Thomas Hernandez (19, Deliyannes)
CM - 7. Cecil Franc (20, Baden)
CM - 8. John Roseburg (20, Valerius Prime)
RW - 9. Taki Noshimoto (17, Trikoupes)
FW - 10. Lucca Bandera (18, Meijis City)
FW - 11. Ryan Karagiannis (18, Valerius Prime)

In their first game, however, the Dukes were sacked, 0-1, by the Kerlan team. Coach and Emperor Alexander II Vassilakos shook his head in dismay. He is not so optimistic.

"The Valerian Curse! That's what I'll call it," he moaned, "Since Valeria cannot pull off good games and good teams so far. I hope the future is brighter for us."

U21 Birds win 1 nil against Lovisa

6 Points All But Clinches Transfer

Phenom Siggy Secour (son of Nest midfielder Trena Secour) scored a give and go goal late in the second half to winthe game 1-0. Depending on the results of the Clearwater-Asinbayar match, it is possible that the Nest has clinched a transfer spot.

*A group of fans put the paper down in a small pub*

"Siggy who?"

"Siggy Secour...son of the girl they have playing midfield."

"oh yeah, the cute one. how olds' the kid"

"16"

"How old's the mother?"

"Um, let me see...29....oh wow"

"she was 13 when she had a kid?"

"Appears so."

*silence by all*

"Well, if they can both play ball well, who cares. Here's to Trena for havin a kid as good as she is."

*toasts all around*

"Hey, the U21 Team is doing as good as the World Cup team."

"Yeah, this might be one of those years."

*the food arrives and the conversation changes to how bad the fries are*

Europa Brittania's babes today added their second disappointment to an already considerable list that is their experience of the U21 World Cup. Following their exit from the first tournament through drawing every single game, they're jinx did not feel like abating.

The juniors could not recreate the form of the senior team as they also faced off against Ravenspire. Going down 2-1, and failing to end the duck that seems to be following the youngsters from country to country.

EDIT: Never mind, got it from TnUI via IM.

EDIT 2: OK...my two scores don't jive. One says I played Svecia, the other says I played NEWI Cefn Druids. I don't know which one to use...

Svecia's first appearance in the under 21 cup proved a success. The 2-1 victory over NEWI Cefn Druids was a test of resovle for the squad, but there was nothing but the back of the net for the goal scorer Jens Jester, who put two away in only his third international match.

Revenge

After the clash with Brazillico, the youthful players of Dennisov had their revenge in their second game against Vollmeria.

"We deserved this win, especially after we lost so clumsy against Brazillico, we are now in a good position to go through." one of the staff commented.

In a game where Dennisov should have scored at least twice in the first 10 minutes, it was Vollmeria who found the net first. With a nifty back-heel the entire Dennisov defense was made to look like amateurs. Dennisov quickly took full control of the game.
The score remained 0-1 until the second half. Where the stamina and fitness levels of the Dennisov players finally began to tip the balance.

With a powerful header from the 3rd corner of the game Dennisov equalised. Although the video later revealed the corner shouldn't have been given in the first place. However there were no doubts about the penalty just 17 minutes later, a rather blatant foul left the referee no other option than to award a penalty which was converted without any problems.

In a thrilling encounter, Jeruselem upset Audioslavia with a 1-0 win. Audioslavia who were expected to bounce back from a loss to Giant Zucchini failed to perform when it mattered. A late goal to Stuart send Squire fans into raptures as Audioslavia had many opportunities to score, but were shut down by resolute defense and tight marking.

Eagle's Nest Scores Five in Third Group Game

Asanbayer Loses 5-1 as Birds Sweep Group

The U21 Birds decided to play today and scored 5 goals over Asinbayar as phenom Siggy Secour scored a hat trick, Nora Nora scored a goal late, and Trevor Algeron scored in the 80th minute to complete the scoring. Goalie Trip Amman did let one goal get by, but it was a great curving shot and it was not a simple goal to block.

The Eagle's Nest scored 8 goals , let by 2, and won all three matches they should be near the top of many of the statistics of the teams so far.

Clearwater's win over Lovisa gave them the second qualifying slot in the group. The elimination pairings will be announced soon, and then we will see what our chances are. The U21's are playing stellar football right now and has a chance to go far in this tournament.

Giant Zucchini and Jeruselem qualify for U21 2nd round

Jeruselem and Giant Zucchini drew 2-2 in a quality game worthy of a final. Both teams are still undefeated as well. In Group H, both teams were assured of qualifications after Audioslavia and Mattigool underperformed badly losing games.

Giant Zucchini came 1st in Group H by virtue of a better goal difference to Jeruselem who have proven quality U21 performers. Jeruselem made the 2nd round of 1st U21 as well.

U21 Strike Birds Upset in Round of 16

Undefeated Eagle's Nest Loses 2-1 to NAST1C

Sloppy Defense and a lucky bounce off the side of the post gave Nast1c the win over the Eagles Nest. The defense will have to be retooled before next U21 Cup. Until then, this campaign is over for the Birds.

*Two men are in a room and one puts the paper down*

1: You know, when i asked for you to get some people, you did ok...except for the defense.

2: We had no great young players.

1: What of the developmental leagues.

2: The Eagle's Nest doesn't have any.

1: *sighs* talk to the legislature. Get them to fund a few. The offense was excellent, Siggy will be a great help to the offensive line the International team has. But our defense and midfield need some help. We need to train a few.

2: I'll get on it.

1: All our hope is with the International team now. they have made the Quarters.... but I am not sure how far they can get. *picks up paper again and continues to read.*

The match went well, ending in a 3-1 win over Clearwater. "Megacool," oreadest said. "We deposited them in the bin provided." The Baby Crocs go on to play either Kingsford ("cool, and righteous") or NEWI Cefn Cruids ("cool, earthy taste, less filling").

Nikean Under 21s Progress
1-0 Victory over Ravenspire puts Pandas in Quarter Finals
by Markenin Markenel

TNUI(NP) - After a decent showing in the group stage, finishing second to Keyshona, the Nikean U21 Pandas progressed even further into the competition with a 1-0 victory over Ravenspire.

After the senior side failed to qualify past the group stage in the World Cup yet again, the spotlight was on the U21 squad. Many players from the senior side qualified to play for the team, and many notable names were moved from reserve status, where they were placed at the start of the competition, to active status. These players included Midorin Torendel, Ichiro Kitase, and Jeserin Keseteretel.

The new players made an immediate impact on the side, in the final group match of the competition, with a 3-2 win over Peruland. Torendel and Kitase scored, while Keseteretel took over the role of leading the midfield in shutting down the attacking drive of the Perulanders. They were unsuccessful twice, but a late goal by 19 year old Interen Miritel gave the Pandas the win.

In the match against Ravenspire, the side faced a much more determined and talented side. 18 year old keeper Saserin Lorisiuene played well in the early going, bailing out the defenders on three occasions. The Pandas began to pick up their pace, and struck mere minutes before half-time, as Torendel powered a shot past the young Ravens keeper. The Nikeans shut down the Ravens in the 2nd half, limiting them to just 2 shots on target. That stat is misleading, however, as the Ravens had many chances. They just failed to finish, often missing the net, and on one occasion, hitting the bar.

The win moves the Pandas into the quarter finals of their first U21 international competition, where they will play at the Insane Dome against either Liverpool England or Jeruselem, a match which will be played later in the day. The Pandas must fancy their chances after the addition of their three senior stars, who range in age from 17 to 20, and they are sure to be up for any challenge.

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini's mini-boycott of the Under-21s thread has come to an end. It was originally boycotted because it ate up a better-than-decent RP way back in Matchday 1. After a long absence, the Giant Zucchini community has finally come to terms with the incident.

Meanwhile, the young Zucchinis have defeated Wella 3-1 in the 2nd round to meet Keyshona or Europa Brittania in the quarterfinals. The Zucchinis were shell-shocked at the start when they conceded the first goal without even touching the ball. Wella kicked off and pumped the ball down the wing, the cross headed in at the far post with Buncksh beaten. From then, it was the Zucchinis all the way. Garranncha's cross was met on the volley by Fan Di, his equaliser coming just before half time. Early on in the second half, Charrtaan's long range piledriver was beaten away by the Wella keeper, Raasch pouncing on the rebound to give the Zucchinis the lead. In the dying seconds of the match, a counter-attack by Wella was intercepted by Moor, and he pumped up a long ball straight into the line of Fan Di, who slammed it straight into the roof of the net, securing the win. Will the young Zucchinis succeed where their seniors failed? Only time will tell.

Jews shock Liverpool England!

A shock result in the U21 championship where the Squires upset WC perenials Liverpool England 2-1. After defeating Mattigool and Audioslavia in the first rounds, another big gun was added to the list of upsets by the Squires. Nikea is Jeruselem's next opponent.

Two first half goals to the Squires in a inspired performance by captain James Stuart ensured a quarter final spot. Stuart controlled the midfield with his crisp passing and great support from defense who held up the Liverpool attack to allow free reign from the middle. Stuart drilled home a brilliant Becks style free kick from 20 m to start the scoring in the 30th minute. He headed another goal from a Jeruselem corner 2 minutes later to shock the Liverpool faithfuk.

Liverpool came back in the 2nd half with attack after attack the Squires were forced to defend. Stuart was subbed off for a defender Jimmy Jacobs and the coach put on more defenders to beat off the Liverpool counter-offensive. The Reds managed a goal in the 75 minute to salvage hope but like a Castle the defense held firm.

OOC – Damn, I was hoping to get this up before the start of the second round.

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Octavio Quintana Show!

Octavio Quintana silenced many of his critics today, coming up with some second-half heroics to push Brazillico past Vollmeria 2-1, and secure a spot for the Baby Bats in the process.

With Brazillico down by a goal at the start of the second half, Quintana wasted little time in getting the Bats even, heading a ball past the Vollmerian goaltender in the 50th Minute off of a brilliant cross by Pascal Coco.

Then, with the Vollmerian defence clamping down, it was beginning to appear as though the Bats were pretty much done, a draw being sufficient to push Vollmeria through. However, a glimmer of hope came in the form of a long lob pass. One-named wonder Bob was able to beat out the offside call and found himself charging towards net alone. Bob left-footed a cheeky little flick, forcing the Vollmerian keeper to a fine save, appearing to be a game saver. However, a hustling Octavio Quintana found the rebound and neatly chipped it into the back of the net, giving Brazillico the lead with only minutes to spare.

Brazillico would sit on the lead, take their foot off the gas and ride it to the second round. A great victory for the team as well as the country’s development program, which President de los Ronaldo is pouring massive amounts of money into.

On the topic of the hero of the day, Quintana is the most promising striking prospect to come out of Brazillico since the Cannon twins. Quintana matches his good size with excellent pace, making him a threat anywhere in the attacking zone. Quintana has a great nose for the net with the ability to score on a solo run, a strike from the outside or a chippy play within the 6 yard box. His badge of "pure goal scorer" carries with it the distinction that he is a rather pedestrian playmaker, usually opting to try to beat his man alone. That being said, some maintain that Quintana still has the potential of becoming "the greatest Brazillican goal-scorer of all time".

Quintana has proven to be an exceptional striker throughout the course of this tournament and has earned the title of No.1 rated Striker for the LEAF Draft according to the Kingsford Press Poll (KPP, not to be confused with KPB) Rankings. Many feel that Quintana has the talent to go in the top 3 of the draft, but since many of the early drafting teams are already solid on offence, Quintana may have to wait to get picked in the Top 5 or beyond.

(make a post, then immediately lose, such is the way of things... )

The Baby Crocs showed promise, but not as much as the devout young things from Kingsford, who outplayed, outdressed and outstatisticked them en route to a 3-0 drubbing.

10 man Jeruselem charge into U21 semis!

Jeruselem beat Nikea 2-1 despite being reduced to ten men in the 2nd half. The Squires who do not use over-aged players scored a miraculous win against the odds.

Nikea scored in 23th minute with <Player X> sinking a penalty after a dodgy challenge by defender Hassan who brought down a forward from behind. Hassan was yellow-carded for his efforts and Nikea benefited. To make things worse, Hassan verbally abused the referee late the 1st half and was sent off.

A 10 man Jeruselem continued to struggle with Nikean attacks on goal preventing any form of hope to be seen. That was until U-21 star Jacobs picked up a loose pass and dodged many a Nikean defender to drill the ball under the keeper to equalise. Nikea counter-attacked again and was unluck to score as the shot flew wide.

It was in overtime, when a Nikean defender decided to push over Jacobs to stop him getting to header in the penalty area. Despite loud protests, a penalty was given. Stuart stepped up and scored the winner.

Squires reach U21-final!

Jeruselem once again faced Giant Zucchini in the U-21 championships II, but this time in a semi-final. It was a game which was entertaining and the result was settled very late.

Jeruselem won 1-1 on penalties 4-3 after 0-0 in normal time. Jeruselem journalists called the game of the year for pure entertainment. The NIL all regular time score disguised the fact both Giant Zucchini and Jeruselem had many chances to score, but were foiled by desperate defense and brilliant goal keeping. Both sides were not lax with their attacking efforts and the crowd was on the edge of their seats all game.

Giant Zucchini broke the deadlock in extra time with a goal from 10 yards when the Jeruselem defense failed to mark a loose GZ player. To the disbelief of GZ fans, the Squires equalised with a shot from an acute angle deflecting off a GZ defender back to the GZ goal. With the score 1-1 in extra time, it was time for penalties.

With 3-3 in penalties, midfielder Jones missed badly to allow GZ to take advantage. Jeruselem keeper Ida saved the day with two saves allowing Stuart to kick the winning penalty and give the game to Jeruselem 4-3.

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini bounced back from a semi-final loss to Jerusalem to defeat NAST1C 2-1. The Zucchinis took the lead first, Raasch slamming home from Charrtaan's inch-perfect pass. NAST1C got the equaliser late in the first half, when an audacious chip over Buncksh was tipped onto the underside of the crossbar and rebounded into the goal. The Zucchinis came back in the second half all cylinders firing, Fan Di with a long-distance thunderbolt that almost burst the net. Unfortunately, the Zucchinis failed to score again after gaining the lead, and the score was a close 2-1 victory. The Zucchinis have secured 3rd place in the Under-21 Championship with that win, and will hope to build on that success next time round.

Kingsford U21 National Win Championship!

The first ever Kingsforder trophy arrived on the shoulders of Kingsford's U21 squad. The team is led by 15 year old keeper phenom Wes Tumplun, and 20 year old forward from Paraqui, Oró Boró. Boró scored the match's only goal, while Tumplun had a phenomenal 16 saves.

"It was amazing" said co-coach Jay Leonardo "that these little dudes stoked up some trophy. Silent Bob, wes gots us some hardware!"

Boró announced that he would enter the LEAF draft, along with Tumplun, for season two.

Boró is a good candidate for a national player, being the phenom he is, but Tumplun will have to fight amongst the many great keepers that Kingsford has produced, more than any other nation, to earn a spot on the Kingsford National.

Curse o' t'cup strikes Second Under 21 Trophy!

Fate struck again today as the Penguin Carrier that was taking the Steel Bull back to Kingsford submerged just off the coast of TnUI. After a brief search, the Insanician Coastguard said there was no hope. Ten seconds later the penguin returned barebacked.

"The Bull weighted at least 50 times more than the penguin, it'll be at the bottom of the ocean by now and we can't be arsed to go get it back."

Final appearance sparks optimism

After the fiasco to the U-21 Championship I where the Squires lost the BSE Free Bovines to fail get into the finals, the Squires loss to eventual winners of the U-21 Championship II Kingsford was sparked interest in junior soccer in Jeruselem. Despite in the 3-1 loss the final, things look good for the Jeruselem junior development programme with several U-21s in the senior team now.

The Squires received a hero's welcome back home despite not taking home the U21 trophy. Coach Eric Cantona spoke to Anna Goldstein, sports reporter for JGN "It was a great campaign, but I guess the Giant Zuchini game sapped our strength for the final and they were a little tired from the extra time and shootout. We will try to win the next U-21 but some of U21s will be lost to senior team due to imminent retirements."
