We thank you for your concern and advice. As of now we are maintaining a course that leads us out of the strait. Our submarine forces have begun to deploy throughout the Sea of Marma. Good luck and Godspeed. In boccia di lupo, crepe il lupo

The Fleet steamed forward, with CAP now being flown at all times.

The sun was setting as the flotilla wound its way past Istanbul, providing a very scenic view of the famous Hagia Sophia.

The 5th and 6th Fleets were receiving so much word that the staff of all vessels was bogged down. It was finally learned that Agrigento was on their side, and that the Rukemians were headed full speed for the Strait. Everyone knew this, and were preparing missiles and defenses. What was simply a rise in tensions was no becoming a conflict, dangerous at that.

They were prepared to defend the Strait at all costs, and would not relent. They had been drilling for days, and all aircraft carriers were on high alert, ready to unleash their flying monsters at any time.

The submarines in the Sea of Marma sat quiet and still, even though they had every oppurtunity to strike the hostile fleets in the area. They would wait until Rukemia was in the Strait, and then come from behind to slaughter them. Submarine commanders were waiting for word from the 5th and 6th Fleets to move out.

Back at home, about 200 miles northwest of Norway in the Arctic Ocean, hundreds of C-141s were preparing to airlift the 1st Mechanized Division into Ferrussia. All men were ready, as well as equipment, tanks, and other vehicles. The government would not even offer a statement this time, only saying that it was "in our best interests to make sure Ferrussia is secure." Also being sent was the 1st Fighter Division, "in order to make sure Ferrussia's skies are safe."

The Capitol City of Skibereen is black, no lights, nothing.
Still there is a steady milling of people about, assault rifles, and rpg's, with civilians at the trigger.
The entire Skib army has moved away from the cities, and out into the 'bush' or as said in Skib they have become 'dusty'.
The small airspace above is easily defended, with a 1000 stingers, and a bulging array of SAMs. Of course any low flying plane would be overwhelmed by small arms fire.
The air of impending violence is 'old hat' to the people of Skibereen who for so long made a hobby of self extermination.
But out there among the darkened streets was a man, desperate to save his young nation.
"OConnelly, do you read me?"
"Copy, go for OConnelly"
"I have an idea, a single chance that might save us, all of us."
"Go ahead sir, I am all ears..."

First Admiral Murphy.
You have a position no better then mine.
I need you to change your posture.
Head for the Bosporus Strait up behind Ferrussia and her allies, I want you there with all do speed. DO NOT ENTER THE STRAIT. Stand just outside engagement range. Your engagement range, not theirs, I realize that places well within the range of their carriers. I, no , you have to take that chance. I want to see if they 'blink', Michael.
If you are engaged, do what you can for as long as you can. Dont be a martyr.

"I want transmissions sent to all involved parties for there leaders to come to Skib, it will at the very least tell me if these 'men of will' are really men at all."
"Sir , what good do you believe getting them here will do? even if they come." a young man in plain black BDU's stood before the President.
"Son, men face to face can solve problems legions of soldiers cant fix. Those men just have to have the spine to do it. Now send those transmissions, before our navy is at the bottom of the Black sea."

"Aye aye, sir" a young ensign ran to the com and began transmitting.

OFFICIAL SECURE TRANSMISSION TO CELEBORNE
Origin: Department of Defense

General Horn, our greatest thanks must go to you and your nation in this trying time. Your naval assistance will, I'm sure, prove invaluable - conflict or not. Amphibious assault groups would be good to keep protected and in the area, if not expensive to upkeep, as it would allow us to counter-attack any offensive on the Ferrussian mainland from land and sea.

However, if you would like to assist with ground defense as well, it would be greatly appreciated. Many AFBs would be avaliable for you to land, although space on the bases will be limited - much of the air force is mobilizing or preparing to do so.

The main purpose of this communique, however, is to inform you that your fleets will be allowed to enter Ferrussian waters, and are invited to make port calls in any major Ferrussian ports if necessary. I would also invite you to send a military liason to Ferrussia to better coordinate troop movements together. This opporitunity will be extended to all nations involved in our defense, as we have always believed that communication is a crutial advantage in war.

Once again, your assistance is welcome and appreciated. I am sure this will increase the diplomatic potential between our countries.

"Admiral, we've got intel on the Skib fleet," said an officer. "They're headed straight for us, and we're picking up all sorts of encrypted radio chatter. I don't know what they're doing, but it looks like whatever it is, they're sure preparing for it in a hurry."

The Rear Admiral grimaced. Great, he thought. Just what we need.

"Dang it, send a message back home - we're being surrounded, and hostilities could break out at any moment."

"Aye, sir."

War Room, Ferrussian Military Command Center, Kiev
Wednesday, September 23rd
1949

"Mr. President, the Skibs are making some questionable moves."

"What do you mean by that?" asked President Yavlinsky, looking to Markov, Sec. of Defense.

"They've practically lined their entire army up on our joint border, but at the same time they're offering a chance for peace talks. I'm not sure what in the heck they're doing. Meanwhile, their fleet is backed off, but from all indications it's headed for the Bosporus."

A foreign affairs adviser nodded. "The peace offering is a tad suspicious. They may be trying to get a bargaining chip - hold a foreign dignitary and the escort hostage. It could be their only option - if you look at things from their perspective, they've got a massive nation knocking on their doorsteps, and they've got to know we're not to happy about them supporting Fyreheart."

Yavlinsky pondered this for a minute. "When are the Fyreheartian troops we saw take off expected to arrive?"

"Around 2100 hours, Mr. President," replied an Air Force officer.

Yavlinsky shook his head. "Do they really expect us to be comfortable sending an ambassador right into the middle of enemy territory, with Fyreheartian troops en route!? I see little reason why this wouldn't be a ploy. Mr. Kasyanov, send them a polite rejection message. We can't afford to cede any advantage to the enemy right now. These are imperialists we're dealing with."

"Yes, Mr. President," said Aleksey Kasyanov. "I'll get on it right away."

Yavlinsky looked at the massive digital map of Ferrussia and it's armed forces on the wall, with known Skib troop movements shown on the border.

How did we ever get here? he thought to himself.

ENCODED TRANSMISSION TO FERRUSSIAN-SUPPORTING NATIONS

It appears now that war is inevitable. Ferrussian ground forces are being mobilized, and we would greatly appreciate any ground-based assistance that can be lent. We appreciate the deployments made thus far in defense of our humble country, and provisions will be made at military AFBs across the nation for your ground forces to land. It is expected that airlift of any significant ground forces into Ferrussia could take 24 hours at the least, so we will do our best to fend for ourselves until backup arrives.

Let it be known that WMD will not be tolerated in this escalating conflict without complete authorization by Ferrussian authorities. On our soil or off, they will not be allowed. Thank you for understanding.

Again, thank you for your assistance. I realize only too much the cost in lives and money that this poses to each of your nations, and wish all of you the best. Ferrussian troops will always be on the front - you have no need to fear being the "expendables" in any engagements. We are not so inclined to sacrafice our allies' lives before our own.

OPEN RADIO TRANSMISSION
----------------------------------

As of 1945 hours local time, the Dardanelles and the Bosphorous is now a closed military zone.

In light of recent threats against the friendly nations of Ferrussia, Celeborne, and Copiosa Scotia we have decided to limit all military transports through Western Asian waters about the entrance to the Black Sea.

We send our greetings to the Agrigentians as they pass Istambul, the regional capital, and our friends are encouraged to use our facilities as they see fit.

Coastal shell and rocket artillery batteries have been activated against any further progress by enemy vessels and submarine patrols have been initiated.

No attempts should be made to breach the Dardanelles or severe consequences will be faced. The 2nd Western Asian Grand Fleet will collect itself in the Aegean Sea over the next 24 hours to ensure the security of our local civilian populations.

Attention all naval forces within 100nm of the provinces of Turkey, Lebanon, or Israel: you are in direct violation of Western Asian territorial waters. Hostile fleets have 3 hours to either leave this sector or to at least set a course for egress.

Gatekeeper units have been deployed and bombardment of any and all enemy vessels left in the sector will commence within 10 minutes of the deadline's expiration.

That is all.

The Omzian authorities appreciates Western Asia's decision to close the only by-sea entrance to the Black Sea and the Ukraine area, therefore making it a great difficulty to have the pro-ICON forces to use the waters as an advantage. We hope this movement can stop more advancing of enemy naval assets into the area, and tehrefore might even cool off the naval standoff a bit.

Indeed, we are no more eager to see conflict emerge in our backyard, especially with the massive ecological and environmental issues that such a tremendous battle would raise.

We would appreciate it if Pro-Ferrussian forces in the Straits could move into the Black Sea, evacuating our bay in favor of our civilian transport vessels. As can be imagined, the appearance of so many ships causes more than a little anxiety on the part of our citizens.

"Operation 'Dana'." Brian Boru lit a cigarette, something he hadnt done in 15 years.
He smiled and thought to himself, You gotta die of something.

At that moment ten trucks were now rolling, sitting the back of each was a low yeild 1.3 kiloton warhead. Every othr vehicle in the Skib army was activated, to move in a pre determined 'random' fashion to appear to be relieving others and moving towards the front.

Mortar teams along the border were now on foot and doing their best to creep to range to begin laying down a wall of fire, it would be temporary, merely a light show, compared to the fireworks that were coming.

Over 400,000 Skibs were going to 'pretend to try and cross the border, so those trucks could get close, just close.
The Skib air craft were being primed to assist the withdrawl of troops as far from the blast zone as possible.
Most would not make it, and President Brian Boru, would become a monster to the history books, to his people, and to himself.
You got to die of something.

These nations will hereby be allowed to deploy military forces in Ferrussia, its airspace, land, and territorial waters, and be considered in a temporary state of alliance with the People's Republic.

May we find ourselves victorious at the end of this war, for this is a fight to our death - we fight in defense of our nation against the imperialist wills of others. Every soldier lost, every ship sunk, will forever be remembered in the annals of Ferrussian history.

We fight for our land, we fight for each other, and we fight for freedom.

The troop transport almost didnt stop in time.
A man in full camo- stood in the middle of the road his right hand extended palm out in the universal 'i am to cool to be run over' geture.
The man pulled down the velcro cover over a patch on his right shoulder, it was the Skibereen flag.
'I really hope these idoits dont shoot me.' and with that final thought he placed his hands behind his head.

It was 0300 in Silvercity, Celeborne as most of the city slept a lone figure in the First Speaker's mansion moved about , to troubled to sleep. The warm glow of his computer terminal and a single cigerette embar gave illumination to the troubled face of the First Speaker. He spent many hours wording and rewording the message, finally he pressed the send button...

Unto the nation of Ferrussia,
We have commited assets to assist you in the protection of your nation, for we feel that this is the proper path to follow at this time. We cannot, however, in good consience and with the blessings of our laws, declare war on any of the opposing nations at this time.
Do not believe that this action in anyway will prevent us from assisting you in the defense of your nation, it mearly prevents a first fire solution on our part.
Know that the heart and fist of Celeborne is with you, and we shall not falter in your defense.

First Speaker

The First Speaker leaned back and slowly exhaled a steady cloud of blue-grey smoke. He picked up the reciever of a phone sitting on his desk. It was an odd phone that had no buttons on the other end a sleepy voice answered "Command code, please." The First Speaker pulled a folder from his desk and clicked on a small lamp.
"Wolf lord, silver one, omega, six. Confirm"
The voice on the other end was no longer sleepy and returned with a chrisp answer.
"Confirmed, wolf lord, silver one, omega, six. Orders ?"
"Release the pack. Prepare the den. Confirm."
"Confirmed, pack released, den defenses preparing"
The First Speaker set the phone back down and crushed the embar of his cigerette out "and so it begins".

Accross the nation and at foreign military bases, men and women awoke to mobilization orders. Many pilots at the last hot breakfast they would get for months.

"HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEAD! NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS! ON THE GROUND!"

Realizing the man may not know Russian, he repeated the same in English and promptly pushed him to the ground. Two others patted him down, making sure he did not have a firearm.

"What are you doing here!?" asked the NCO. "Who sent you!?"

Fyreheart

We realize our error, the fleet is being recalled.
Forgive our impertinance.

-Admiral Gaspard de Coligny

For all the quaintness, it must have been an impressive sight. Over 100,000 Dominon soldiers stood in perfect battalion squares. Black polished helmets glistened, every trimming was in perfect place. Officers had their sabres drawn and flags waved in the slight sea breeze. Due to a lack of specific commands from the Fyreheartian government, the men had simply landed on a Fyreheartian beach that to them had no name. It was not going to be the grand review that they expected, it was doubtful that their Fyreheartian commander General Howell, would speak to them. But they were not disheartened. In fact, when the massive Fyreheartian transports descended over them, the men let out an enormus cheer. Never had they seen such machines as this. As they began to board, the men of the I and V Corps began to sing, "Long live ICON, Long live Fyreheart, All for the Dominion."

Citizens home in Gothenburg-Franc, eagerly waited the news of how their boys would perform.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CLAN SMOKE JAGUAR
In reponse to the completely unwarranted aggression against our ally, The People's Republic of Ferrussia, we of Clan Smoke Jaguar have no choice but to declare a state of WAR with the following nations:
The Armed Imperium of Fyreheart, The Armed Republic of Skibereen, The Empire of Rukemia, The Imperial Yayo Dominion of Diminix, and The Dominon of Gothenburg-Franc.

As of now, all available assets will be transferred to Ferrussia to help repel this unwarranted aggression. However, we will state now that we intend only to act in defense of our ally, and will not partake in any invasions of the offending nations.

Soujiro Hayate CVBG, South Atlantic
Within 2 minutes of the official declaration of war, the Nicholas Kerensky class carrier Soujiro Hayate, and her associated battle group, began sailing north to provide what assistance she could to the Ferrussian military. This was one of five carrier battle groups that were being dispatched, with the other three being the Nicholas Kerensky class Jinei Nobunaga in the Persian Gulf, and the Franklin Osis (CVL) Class Jeremy Osis in the Red Sea, Caroline Osis in the Mediterranean, and Arisa McEvedy in the North Sea.

Celle Submarine Pen, Clan Smoke Jaguar
The six submarines slipped silently away, heading on their long trek to Ferrussia. Though it would take weeks for them to arrive, even steaming at 22.5 knots, their presence would surely be felt, for these were the first six of the new Crossbow class SSGNs, and their powerful Crossbolt missiles would be enough to decimate the enemy naval forces.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THIRTYCALIBER:

Given the unjustified, imperialistic aggression against The People's Republic of Ferrussia, a friendly nation, and a comrade in arms, we, the Free Republic of Thirtycaliber, have been forced to declare a state of War now exists between ourselves and the nations listed hereafter:

- The Armed Imperium of Fyreheart
- The Armed Republic of Skibereen
- The Empire of Rukemia
- The Imperial Yayo Dominion of Diminix
- The Dominon of Gothenburg-Franc

Assets of our armed forces already near the area of operations will conduct operations against assets of the nations listed above. In the future, further assets may be transferred to the area of operations pending further review of the situation. Furthermore, let it be stated that our forces are geared towards a defensive war, and will not partake in offensive operations in the enumerated countries unless all nations in the coalition assisting Ferrusia deem that it be necessary.

DECLARATION OF WAR

The President walked to the front of the Senate, and looked outside through the total glass walls. Such a beautiful sunset, but one that looked omniously dangerous. He began with a drink of water, and looked into the totally silent audience.

"It is my duty today to announce a grave circumstance. For the past few weeks, tensions between Ferrussia and Fyreheart have been rising, along with respectful allies. Movements of naval groups and ground forces have led to an increase in military activity, due to Penguinatan and Omzian attempts at a peaceful resoltuion.

"It is my duty to inform this great nation that I intend to declare war on the following nations:

- The Armed Imperium of Fyreheart
- The Armed Republic of Skibereen
- The Empire of Rukemia
- The Imperial Yayo Dominion of Diminix
- The Dominon of Gothenburg-Franc

(He said each one slowly and clearly, pausing in between)

"These nations have embarked on an imperialstic expansion campaign, attempting to overthrow a government that did nothing but condemn another. For, my friends, a condemnation is not a declaration of war, yet it is a warning that one does not support another. Perhaps the Fyreheartian Administration misunderstood 'condemn' from 'attack', and we are currently in this situation.

"With approval of the Penguin Senate, this declaration of war will be final. It is not a war in which Penguinatans will fight for themselves, nor for personal greed. It is a war in which we will fight for human dignity, pride, and perseverance. It is my job, as your representative in international affairs, to protect you and protect those who send our message:

"Evil has no place in the world."

With that, a vote was held by voice, and only 2 "nays" were heard. The President congratulated the Senate on "seeing the light that we all must pay attention to." He then commenced to leave and talk to his generals, all the while realizing the impact of this declaration of war on Penguinatan history.

The Ferrussian NCO, satisfied for now with this explanation, threw the man in the truck and drove back to the post. He radioed in the situation beforehand, and several more armed guards awaited them as the truck pulled up to the defenisve outpost.

A few minutes later, another truck came by to pick the man up. He was being "taken for questioning," they said, and they blindfolded the man and drove for nearly an hour. Finally, they took off his blindfold, revealing him to be in a facility of some sort. The room he was in was concrete, with little adorning the bleak walls.

A man walked in, and began to speak. Although not as mysterious or cryptic as one would imagine from watching horror films and the like, he did have a certain air of secrecy around him.

"What brings you here?" he asked. "Surely you've thought of what you would say, so what is it that you've risked your life to tell us?"

OConnelly smiled slightly,
"Thinking would have kept me out of this."
"Skibereen aquired 10 1.3 kiloton theatre size low yield warheads, originally they were to be used on Fyreheart. When our Senate forced President Boru into reversing his decision to back you, he came up with a plan. That plan failed, so the details are pointless for this discussion.
The contingent however was simple, cause a big enough ruckus to drive the small warheads over your border, with the initial lack resistence I have no idea how far our operatives may have gotten.
The warheads are luckily enough in vehicles with no offensive capacity, so they pose a non-threat to troops, if discovered. However the warheads are armed, and saftey calibrations are off, if one of those trucks gets hit....poof.
I have the radio frequency to contact our operatives, and the command codes and Authority to order their immediate surrender.
I also have the authority to order the immediate surrender of all ground forces, well I have that authority as soon as you capture President Boru.
Which leads me to the rest of my little story.
Which I will not share with anyone who is not my ranking equal, or better.
I also have an encrypted messege, in my pack for your leader. I know the key code, so dont bother trying to help your self. Now be a good officer and get your superiors. Oh a cigarette would be nice.TickTock."

OConnelly stopped smiling.

He walked out of the room, leaving O'Connelly to himself for a few minutes. After a bit of waiting, the General came back into the room.

"I've gotten authorization for this. You have my word, and that's going to have to cut it for now. I'm sure we can run a SpecOps mission behind your lines and caputure President Boru. "Do what you need. You had better hope that whoever's on the other end know's what's going on, though."

"Thanks for the 'addyboy'. how ever it directly must be the oppisite you musttreat Boru as a war criminal. He instigated you into war, then turned sides with Fyre, My men are walking the Fyre and Goth-Franc forces into your hands as best we can.
It must appear that you smashed through our plans, not our lines.
we will formaly annouce Boru's actions to be unsanctioned by the military and the senate.
Be clear this deception will allow your nation and the Nation of Fyreheart to save face. While still allowing the Skib people to believe that a free government can work. We are a nation of warlords, one sign that things are not as they should be will plumit us right back into civil war, except this time the war will spill over on the nations that many of the Skibs will feel are to blame for the turmoil, namely Ferrussia and Fyreheart.
And our military as you may well know trains in terrorism, not occupation.

With that OConnelly handed over coordinates the location of the Skib President.
He also Handed over the Coordinates of the rallypoint for the Skib-Goth and Fyre forces.
"In the south there is a line of combat being fought against your army, it is a trick, they are leading your division into a large 'killbox', we are aware you like most conventional forces would attack the area of greatest resistence, the forces were to pull back, draw in you division an rain down mortar fire from no less the one thousand teams.
Our anti-tank crews would loose on your armour, not till then should even had encountered any anti-tank fire.
This is to be done to bait your men into calling for close air support, so our stinger teams could down your aircraft, the 'killbox', is ther again part of another illusion, mounting that large ambush, would get your attention, we were to leak the location of the sizable Goth and Fyre forces, that way you would believe the killbox was a deversion to allow them to enter your nation, you would in kind respond with massive deployment in the north, take a guess where the nukes are?
Ferrussians Goth-Francs and Fyre forces, would be concentrated in that 'Killbox'.
our forces would retreat you would rally, the ICONs would resist, and poof.
We may not have technical superioty, but when this is all over, you should send your men to Skib to learn how bait an enemy.
Pull your men out of the south slowly as if cycling them, smuggle them to those coordinates, and you wil meet the Goths and Fyre with overwhelming forces."
OConnelly got on the radio.
"Rainy Day, Rainy Day.

"There just keep looping that, for about the next hour, if everybody doesnt die on your northern border then they were listening, if you find the trucks and these ten locatios(OConnelly hand over Coordinates)
Then were listening.
If this leaks to anyone, and we find out. you will wish you were Still At war with FyreHeart.

"First, you want us to send in a special insertion team to capture President Boru and make it look as though he's being held as a war criminal, leak misinformation about his involvement, etc. etc. Then we are to push forward without much fighting along the northern front until we can sieze the nuclear weapons, disarm them, and take them somewhere safe. Around the same time, you want us to smuggle you into the country so that you can secure power.

"I have a few questions, however. Will Skibereens official position on the war change? I would also like to know if we will experience resistance from your armed forces througout the process of the operation. It would be nice if the helicopter picking up Boru didn't get shot down while passing over your lines.

"I would be quite interested in sending some special forces over for training when this is said and done - I'm quite sure that we could benefit greatly from excersizes and lessons in your most unique tactics. I trust that the 'Killbox' strategy is scrapped - you aren't planning on going through with it now?

"At any rate, I appreciate your help, and with any luck we can get this ball rolling by late tonight - these things are best conducted under cover of darkness."

The President began to be worried about the ground war in Ferrussia. It appeared that the small Mechanized Division he had sent was not enough. He began to e-mail the Ferrussian President, and made sure the line was secure before sending it through.

Mr. President,

It is my concern that you do not have enough ground support from us in Ferrussia. My first intention was to defend primarily by sea and halt the enemy forces there, but obviously that has all but failed. As we are retreating, I fear that a dark hour is approaching Ferrussia and its allies.

I wish to send five more mechanized divisions, and I will make sure that any city you ask to be secure is just that. Of course it will be necessary to try and thwart the attack in the first place, but to me it seems rather imminent.

I am not trying to be a pessimist, Mr. President, but your chances are fading. I suggest you fight to the last breath, as any brave human being would do. Do not give up, and always remember to keep the path open for a new future. Mr. President, we cannot fail. The world is counting on us.

We, the Direcotrate of Gothenburg-Franc have given your suggestions to our field commanders. This late in the situation though, some individuals need your personal responses to their scenarios. Marshal Montroux for example needs you to call you civillians away from the barricades they have put in his path.

Also your suggestions have not gone over well with military command, whom I believe has sent you the first telegram documenting this situation. Our field commander, Marshal St.Jean d' Angely, has this to say to you.

"You want us to march without uniforms, without isegniea, in oppen order across friendly countryside! Us, the Imperial soldiers of the Dominion? Marching columns is standard tactics. You would spread us out to destroy us! You hear me, we will not have any of this! If one more soldier of Gothenburg-Franc is killed, I will turn our troops around, and march towards your........"

At this point in time, we feel it wise to cut off the Marshal's conversation. We feel you should communicate directly with our Corps comanders. Several of them should listen to you.

The Directorate is still unsure of what to do. We could recall Marshal d'Angely and replace him with the more progressive Montroux. But one thing is certain. If more Gothenburg-Franc soldiers should be killed in sensless violence, we will send the Imperial Gaurd and IX and VI corps to keep order along our lines of march.

Our best suggestion in these unfortunate circumstances are, please cooperate with our Marshals who cooperate with you. The others will learn by example.

*The Goth-Franc, Fyre position.*
Several spotters took position around the outskirts of the far too visible positions of the Goth insursion.
"Capt. we could kill them now, and just be done with this."
What sounded to be a man, in black and in a ski-mask, held A sniper rifle and spoke as he peered down the scope.
The capt. looked back over his shoulder towards the Skoat mobile light artillery, and the koshi tanks. Not enough he thought.
"They were invited here, of a fashion anyway."
"Then let me shot a few officers, they walk around with pins and medals, they even allow their men to salute them, this is ridiculous."
"It is my understanding Pat, that the Goths are new to foreign combat, or even combat at all. Give it some time."
"Sir we will have school children 'plinking' them all the way to Ferrussia."
I suppose they will want to play a battle hymn as they march."
The man being addressed as Capt. raised an eyebrow "You mean like the pipes?"
The other man laughed "Point taken sir."
"Pop flares, and move towards them openly, I want you to take your com, and talk fire position for the artillery just incase."
"You want me to call a barrage down on myself?"
"No, but if you stop talking, we will start shoting."
"Fair enough, sir."
"Just not the mortars sir, I really dont want to burn to death."
Neither man laughed.

Patrick Mallory and 400 of the 'BlackEyes' began to head towards the Main Goth position.
Pat was counting the yards off in song as he sang 'litte indians'.
At about 300 yards Patricks second Matthew O'Donald began to Hail the Goths.
Capt. McKelroy was looking ahead 'Barricades indeed as if any one in this country was stupid enough to stand toe to toe, against enemies who were so eager to march into traps. If the Ferrussians know we are coming, and they have any tactical know how at all, we are "Dead as Dickens".'

Our time is short, certain elements in ournation are waiting to call on our people to resist openly. This will get far more bloody n a few hours if you dont activate. You will of course have to fight, but it will be in Skibereen.
Upon Learning of the deception Fyreheart and Goth-Francs will ahve every respectable reason to pull out and allow you to invade Skibereen.
Coming clearer now.
President Boru wants this to end at his own exspence. It is a pity we will loose such a man, my only satifaction is that I will get to execute the senators who actually did put us in this situation.

*I and VII Corps camp, Skibereen, near the barricades*

Zouave units were chosen for picket patrol that morning. With their brick red and black uniforms, with gold and blue trimming, they must have made either an impressive or ridiculous sight, depending on whos' viewpoint you observed them with. But the Zouaves were much impressed ad were without humor when without warning they were surrounded by dark shadowy figures. Nervous Zouaves fingered their weapons. With all of the trouble posed by Skibereen civilians, they were terrified by the thought that they were about to be in the fight of their lives. Quietly they were told to go back to their camps and to alert their commanding officers. The Skibereen guides were here.

Field Marshal Nicholaus Etienne Montroux brushed off his dress uniform. Every brass medal was in exactly the right plac. He turned to his row of subordinates. Each was there, in full attire, at full attention. ICON banners and Gothenburg-Franc flags blew in the wind. Behind the officers was a regiment of elite Currasieres, in parade ground percision. Unfortunatley, the commander of the Skibereen forces was unimpressed.

"Excuse me for asking, your rank is that of....a Captain? Well it does not matter. As long as you are regular army? Am I correct?" Marshal Montoroux smiled, introduced himself and saluted. "We are so thankful that you have gotten here. We were not sure if you would be joining us. I am pleased. I know that several of my brother Corps comanders have not ben cooperating. High command has nothing to rectify this situation. As it is, I now command what is going to be known as the Right Grand Division. This includes my I Corps and VII Corps. Our goal is to advance into Ferussia and then to drive towards Pervomays'k. Our goal is to relieve pressure on the Center and Left Grand Divisions which are driving on the Ferussian port of Odesa. Although, I believe the center is having difficulty in advancing....."

"We hope that you would call your troops or civillians away from the barricades as well. They block our line of march, and we did not want to storm them. You see, we do have experiance as an urban army. During the Lyon Commune, communist rebels had barricaded themselves into the city of Lyon. It was only through firepower and maneuver that we were able to defeat them."

Later

"So we take it you do not care for our brass bands."

From the Direcotrate of Gothenburg-Franc to Skibereen:

We would appreciate it if you would not shoot down the FYREHEART transports that take our troops to the combat theathre. We hear many conflicting reports about the situation on the ground. Continue to cooperate with the commanders who cooperate with you. Be advised, we have called upon our reserves yesterday. Three more corps are being dispatched to the combat zone, this includes the Imperial Gaurd. The Imperial Gaurd have been given strict instructions. They should able to maintain order. If you have a problem with the conduct of any particular corps or commander, which you can identify by the badges over the troops right breast, let us know.

Respectfully,

To: Fyreheart

As your allies, as your friends, we ask you to please send more Fyreheartian ground troops to Skibereen and Ferrussia. Skibereens kill our soldiers everyday, our soldiers attack Skibereen settlements. The situation is in chaos. Only your nation has the power to end this madness and get the war on the right track. Please take control of the ground war! You have the power.

We are not failing you however. We send more men to the front daily, and right now we are preparing an offensive to capture Odessa. We just need you though, becuase if we are forced to fight on thre fronts, we might collapse. We belive in Fyreheart.

Ferrussia
19-12-2003, 06:20
Agrigento, we would recommend deployment along Ferrussia's western border with Skibereen, recently reclaimed as Skib troops receede from the area. For the time being, however, do not venture any further than necessary into Skib territory.

*****

The General nodded to O'Connelly.

"I am quite hesitant to invade Skibereen, as we are recieving reports that G-F forces are coming under attack, and if such actions are so easily taken against your supposed allies, I do not wish to think of what would happen to an invasion force.

"I need you to prove to me that you are with us in this. You have shown that you easily change sides, and I am quite sure that this could simply be an elaborate trap. I fail to see why such a militant and fluid nation such as yours would base your plan on our cooperation and trust - something that you must be sure we do not have the most of for you now. If it is what you advise, we will move into Skibereen territory, but the moment that things get hotter than they are supposed to, we'll pull out and hit you in ways not easily countered by less developed countries - strategic bombing, missile salvos, and whatever necessary to neutralize the threat of Fyreheartian troops using your nation as a springboard into our territory.

"It is my hope that you mean the best, but surely you must understand that we cannot put our blind trust in your hands. Convince me, Mr. O'Connelly, on why I should trust that you and your people will not slaughter us as soon as we set foot on your soil."

SUBJECT: Troops....

Greetings, Skibereen. For sometime Rukemia has realised that your nation is in somewhat of a strategic position to both sides in this conflict. Just recently we recieved word that you have expressed willingness to assist the alliance if indeed war comes. This comes as great news to us and thus the question of this message. Would you see it suitable for Rukemian troops to land within your nation....just incase things were to become the worst of worst. We would respect your citizens and do no harm if you granted us entry, and perhaps we could give your army a little training in return. Think about it.

OOC:this is a catch up for Goth, I had tried to post SOMETHING LIKE THIS earlier but it failed to take. Thank you for your patience.
*Goth-Franc POsition Skibereen*
THe Morning was bad the Skib guides who were escorting the Goth arrived too late to stop a slaughter,
and not soon enough to make sure there were no witnessess.
A young man came running up along the slow moving column of men, the Skibs moved warily along when this close to what they called "the shooting gallery".
"Sean, eh Sean."
A young man dressed in camo blacks. Approached a man near the front of the column who was in Forest Camo, There never [b]appeared[b/] to be any order to the Skib lines or ranks.
"How goes it up 'ere?" the young man spoke quietly so that no one would hear who wasnt hiding in one of their ears.
"I dont like these Goth officers, they hell mike I just dont like em."The obviously older of the two men replied.
"Yeah."
"How about back aways? I dont imagine you ran up here for your health."
"These Goth regulars aint so bad, once you get em to uncinch the ol arse there. 'cept the officers, huh, their asses are sewn tight."
Both men laughed.
"I have been noting a problem though Sean."
"Another one."
They laughed again, but it was a humorless laugh that touched neither mens eyes.
"Sean, the fighten they did last night with the villagers. It seems to have rattled some of these boys pretty fierce. I tried explaining to some that just about anybody who can hold a gun in Skib, will. Just they cant seem to understand that all soldiers dont wear uniforms and fight by 'The Goth Articles of War' it is like their whole perception of reality has been kicked in the 'goods' ya know."
"Yeah I have noticed."
"So what though?"
"Well right now it doesnt make difference, but let it sit on them awhile, or heaven forbide letthem have to shoot one more woman, and I think we might start having a problem."
"What kind of problem?"
"These guys could get trigger shy, ya know?"
"Yup"
"And we dont need that"
"Nope"
"You told any of them how many of us are out there, sean?"
"Naw, I think that would just make them more nervous." Both men laughed again.
"Another thing Sean..."
"Another!?!?"
"You hear that sound?"
"O'yeah that."
"It is carrying, long miles, who ever is piping is getting a hell of a response."
"I think it is the Catholics"
"We're all Catholics Sean."
"You know what i mean Mike."
"The boys in back been asking about the music all morning."
"What in bloody hell did you tell them?!?"
"Sean, am I stupid? I told them it was a funeral dirge for the dead villigers."
"Smart thinking. The officers up here just been ignoring it, doesnt fit to their plan i guess."
"You know Sean, the pipes are going to stop, soon I hope."
"Not too soon mike, we getthese boys all the ay into Ferrussia and it wont matter."
"Sean those pipes are going to stop, and then they are going to Start again, and when that happens they will bring Hell with them, especially if it is the Order, sorry the Catholics."
"I know mike, I know."
"I think my explanation of the pipes weirded out the Goths even more any way. All we need is a fecking fog to roll in and we will be all set to get fecking murdered."
Neither man laughed.
Many of the 400 black eyes found that after awhile the Goth regulars had much in common with them, especially when it came to bragging, tall tales, and big fish. Almost Irish the way they talked shite.
Sean thought that these men would be decent people in other circumstances.
To bad he might not ever find out.

The Right Grand Division's Column of March
*In Skibereen *

The Right Grand Division of the Army de Expedition, consisting of the I, IV, and VII Corps of Gothenburg-Franc, some 300,000 men strong, was being escorted into Ferrussian territory by the soldiers of Skibereen. How odd these men appeared to Gothenburg-Franc regulars, for they had no regular uniforms, no apparent command structure, and no sense of decorum. And they were always talking, talking to Gothenburg-Franc officers, each other, or even the common imperial soldiers. Most of the soldiers in the ranks felt thes men to be a blessing, since they had appeared, civillians were no longer attacking their column. The men of the Right Grand Division had no idea how well the other columns were faring however, and this unnerved them slightly. They Skibereen's were quite relaxed around the Gothenburg-Franc common troops and many Gothenburg-Franc soliders were delighted to learn about the customs of a land so foreign to them. Rations were shared, jokes and stories were told around campfires. Not even the strange whistling and skirling sounds from farther south could damper the mens spirits. Finally rhe war was underway they thought. The big plan was to reandevous with the III, V, and IX Corps position, and then continue the drive towards the Ferussian capitol to draw troops away from the crucial Southern Front. The men of Gothenburg-Franc finally began to explore the world outside of the industrial order of their homeland.

"I have ordered my men not to socialize with the Skibereen's sir," reported Major General Vincent Allix to the Right Grand Division's commander Field Marshal Nicholaus Etienne Montroux, formerly of the I Corps. Allix was a junior divisional commander in the recently attached IV Corps.
" Whyever not? The men seem to enjoy the conversation. The Skiberens appear to have a calming effect upon our men," answered the Marshal.
"A majority of the officers under your command do not trust our allies, sir. The Skibereens hardly make worthy oponents, much less allies. No one knows who commands them, they do not even address us withe the respect that is due. For all we know, they could be planning on killing us in our sleep and then disbanding our men."
"General Allix, If the Skibereens had wanted us dead, I can assaure you that we would already be just that. Why can't high command and my own officers see that we are no longer fighting in the homeland! The only thing that differs between us and them is that these people do not make war in the manner that we do. They are still human beings. I am trying to hold this alliance together. Trust me, the Skibs will fight with us against the Ferussians. And they will probably die with us there. The enlisted men have the right idea. Let them socialize with the Skibereens. It is creating a bond between us that will last through the stresscombat and hopefully to a brighter tommorow."
Allix looked slightly unnerved by the Marshal's proclamation. In his mind, the Skibs were what the majority of the senior officers thought they were, animals. Marshal Montroux's attitude was very much like the Regimental officers, thought Allix. "Very well sir, I will countermand my orders."
"Good, now I must speak to to the Skibereens. It is time to plan our link with the Center Grand Division. Long Live ICON! All for the Dominion!" As Allix rode away, Montroux looked at a map of Ferussia. But he couldn't stop and think to himself that his officers could not see that the army needed the Skibereens to live in this country. Montroux would try and improve relations. He had to, it would be a disaster if the Skibs left the column.

A day past and night had fallen. The pipe playing had stopped in late afternoon.
The Skibereens of the 'BlackEyes' were more at home patroling the area around the Goths at night anyway. Some of the Skibs took along willing Goths to observe how they patrolled, establishing a 'lack' of presence was not a approach considered by the Goths apparently, it seemed they thought of it as 'hiding', of course Skibs saw nothing wrong with hiding either.
"Sean, they stopped playing some time ago."The man who had being addressed as mike earlier spoke softly.
"I know"
"Are you going to do something?"
"Yes, I have been waiting, I want the 'Catholics' to think we are camped for the night."
"The 'Catholics' know we dont camp at night, the Goths do."
"You know what I mean"
"What are you going to do?"
The man addressed as Sean got up a started walking towards the commanders sleeping area/eating area.

He walked till the guard attempted to stop him, he quietly choked the man out and laid him down for the evening.

He entered the Commanders quaters.
"Sir" He said.
Saluting the Surprised, but not shaken at all Goth Officer.
"I am David Mcdougal, I am the Division Commander of the 1st 'BE' Designation 'Sean'.
I must inform you your position is comprimised.
You and your men must leave for the border NOW, anything that slows you down should be 'scuttled' and left behind.
DO NOT use your radios.
There is a large force which is closing on this position, me and my men are going to try to slow them down. But slow them down is all we will be able to do.
You must go now."
With that 'Sean' Stood at attention waiting for the other man's response.

Marshal Montroux's Headquartes

Marshal Montroux, Right Grand Division commander was quite surprised when the tall Skibereen walked into his headquartes unanounced and was even more surprised to hear the Skibereen's words.

"What is the force closing in around us? Can we stand and fight alongside of you? For how can we make it to the border unescorted?", asked the stunned Marshal. "I have much faith in your men, and I believe in our mission. Much more so then most of my fellow officers. I will issue the necessary orders, but I need to know these things. Also, what of the Center Grand Division? Marshal DuPrey who killed all those civillians a few days ago is wandering blindly somewhere South of our position. We are supposed to reandevous tommorow with him here. Please tell me what I need to do." Montroux awaited the Skibereen's word and dismised the honor gaurd which had just rushed into the room, discovering their unconcious comarades outside.

Center Grand Division postions

Unescorted and marching blindly, the men of the III, V, and IX Corps under the hardliner Marshal Josquin DuPrey were plowing their way towards the reandevous point with the Right Grand Division. All day they had been marching and all day small civillian patrols kept ambushing the forward skirmish lines. DuPrey in return ordered the immediate execution of any Skibereen citizens found within the columns line of march. The men were growing unnerved by the strange skirling noises heard all around them. It was a music that none of their ears had ever heard before, and it was quite a foreign sound to them. Many speculated its meaning. V Corps brass bands kept up a livley counter melody for most of the day, but now that night had fallen, so had their spirits. Still the Center Grand division marched on. It consited of 300,000 men and when untied with the Right Grand Division would form the 1st Amry de Expedition of Gothenburg-Franc. But the tired soldiers still had along way to trudge and when the eerie music died down, the men began to wonderjust what wa in store for them.

'Sean' relaxed, to an 'at ease stance.
"Commander, I have had 17,000 men around your column these last couple of days, with artillery, and anti-air equipment.
We have no communication with our capitol. We have nothing but our original orders. Which were to make sure you get, to Ferrusia.
The event at the village and any further damage your fellow Commanders might be doing has caused a 'call to arms' if you will.
Skibereen, was full warring factions. One such faction was the 'BlackEyes', my current division of the Skib army. Another were
'The band of the Red Hand, they being the largest and most orginized.
A third the one I believe we are dealing with are, 'The Order'.
'The Order' was formed by group of Monastic Catholic priests who lived life the way Ancient Gaelic Monks did, a Bible in one hand and a sword in another.
They fielded the second largest army in Skibereen,
and had an amazing command of logostics and battle field control, with the pipes they dont use radios, and their commanders know how to 'listen' to the song.
At their peek they could field two-hundred thousand men, now, Even at half that, they are not fighting for country, they are fighting for G-d.
Your orders are to get to Ferrusia, not fight Skib warparties.
I waited to inform you because they would have been expecting me to tell you sooner, expecting you to dig in.
They are not expecting you to march off in the middle of the night.
You continue the way you have been, quickly and quietly, your men have been chattering with my men, many of your men have better understanding of how to carry themselves, you will recieve little resistance, if any.
I will provide you with our Banner, to fly along your column this will also provide some leave.
However you must get going now. I dont know how bad this is going to get, but I would count that once you enter Ferrussia,
Skibereen to be the fire from which you have lept back into the frying pan from.
If word spreads that 'The order' is on the field again, more then likly other factions who have been silent will be such no longer.
My men and I will be able to give you a head start, it is not our way to carry our fights into others yards.
You and your men will not be followed across the border.Besides you couldnt stand and fight with us," Sean smiled a little."We dont STAND and fight."

"Father, we have found them."
A young woman with olive skin, and ears on a cord around her neck, aswell as what appeared to be a scrotum around another cord.
Stood under a tree. Seeming to bounce even while stationary.
She spoke to a large older man who was sitting reading a book by flasklight.
"How far?" The man asked.
"A few hours, there are two groups, one has a contingent of Skibs holding a large parimeter around them."
"Yes, the Eyes."
"The other seems to on a search and destroy mission killing any Skibs they encounter. They will be easy to attack, they keep spotters far too close to their main lines. And they keep far to many fires for any of them to have much night vision."
"How large?"
"The latter is the larger of the two, but that means nothing. Surprise and terrain are on our side."
"We have captured some of the Skibs aiding the other group. What should we do with them?"
"The brothers and I will question them girl. How about you and your Ghurks? Will they fight with us?"
"Yes, of course they will Father."
"Girl you and your kind may be brown heathens but G-d bless you."
"I want a hundred mortars, to discharge on the large group first, front and rear with light fire the heaviest concentration being on the middle, cut their lines in half. Five minutes of fire no more, then Iwantthem to fall back, wait ten minutes then have all 700 mortar teams firing a rolling barrage from the starting mortar position all the way back to the orginal targets. See how many we can trap looking for the first group.
After the second mortar attack fall back and wait, oh say 45-50 minutes them start another rolling barrage, except this time, I want 5000 men to come up the middle from the right flank and make a decisive cut in their line, but not a static manuaver, in and out.
Then leave them alone till dawn. Place About 45000 men around their parimeter say... a half a mile out, have them take a single shot at any stragllers then leave."
"Yes Father, ummm the group with the Skib escort?"
"I will be taking seventy thousand men to deal with them personally."

Marshal Montorux's Headquarters

Marshal Montroux gave a hearty chuckle at the Skib' statement. "From what I have heard thats entirely true. You do not stand for anything. No dress parades, inspections, the list goes on." Montroux's face grew serious. "Thank you though for telling me the reality of our situation. I have much respect for you and your men. I appreciate your honesty. It is good to know the odds facing us. The Order does appear to be quite powerful and could possibly overwhelm our linear tactics. But you must see my resignation to move. I cannot abandon Marshal Du Prey, as much as I detest his methods. I also do not wish to abandon you. What should happen to you and your men when the Order encounters you? I know we are here to fight Ferussians. This is only what we wanted. It must sicken you to fight fellow Skibereens on our behalf. It sickens me as well. But I do not wish for you, our allies to die for us when we are marching away from you."

Montroux stood up from his oak desk and walked towards the Skib officer. Montroux was a powerfully built man, an older veteran of several wars. "I will issue the necessary orders detailing the immediate evacuation of the IV,VIII Corps plus all of the artillery and baggage. They will begin to move immediatley. Can we send messengers, do anything to reach DuPrey? I want to get as many of his men out of here as possible. I must insit though that the I Corps will stay with you. I will command them personally. We cannot abandon our allies."

Montroux pulled a map of the surounding area out of his desk. "Teach me. From one soldier to another. Show me how to fight as you do. My men will listen to me. We can organize a counter ambush. We can slow down the Order, give the other Corps of Gothenburg-Franc enough time to whitdraw. We ensure their survival into Ferussia. We can possibly save most of DuPrey's men as well. Tell me what to do, my men will follow. Only the I Corps will stayy and fight with you. 53,000 men, perhaps the best our army has to offer. We will fight as you do."

Montroux awaited the Skibereen's response with sincerity written on his face as well as honor. "Now, how do we reach DuPrey?"

Right Grand Division Camp

The men of the Right Grand Division were completely confused. Many were given the order to quickly form light columns of maneuver, They were told to abandon their heavy gear and just grab the essentials. Speed and purpose were stressed.Gradually a plan was beginning to take shape. To avoid a panic, the men of the IV and VII were told that they were going on a forced night march to surprise a Ferussian column. The men began to form up, just as they would for a quick march into combat. They were prepared to leave immediatley and more importantly quitely. The artillery and air cavalry untis would go with them. So would all non-combat personnel. Only the men of the I Corps stood by at the ready, not preparing to go anywhere.

"Commander, I could no more sit here and TELL you how to change in a few short hours the training of your men then you could me about my men. What I am sayying is, that if this reaches the boiling point here, which it is very close, your men may not be welcomed here. And so far, believe it or not, they have been.
You have your orders, I have mine. Simply put, most if not all of my men and myself will be dead by morning, that is of little consequence. If you and your men, who followed our presidents request end up dead next to us, then we died for nothing. You do grasp this situation whether you want to admit it or not. More people will keep coming, tonight it might be 50,000, tommorow night 100,000, and the next night, and so forth and so on. You will not aid the allies you were sent to aid, Fyreheart. No we dont like killing Skibs, but we are used to it.
Your men will find women fighting, boy and girls as young as 12.
Can your men gun down a pregnant women with a molotov cocktail?
Our tactics are simple, if our enemy expands we contract, when our enemy contracts we expand. If our enemy moves we harrass him, with smoke, mud, manure, bullets, bombs, and babies.
Will your men fire on children laying in the road? Because they will get raked by snipers ifthey try to move them peacefully, or maybe it will just be kids playing.
Commander, nothing is beneath us, nothing.
If you insist on leaving a contingent of men, I can not stop you, I most cetainly would not leave them to the wolves.
SHIT, fine, have your men cover their faces, torn shirts, cloth from anything will do, but not lycra, or poly-fabs, cotton is good, it has a low reflective quality. Nothing that can not be carried by one or two men, quickly.
You might as well shoot down your aircalv units your self, if you dont get them gone right now."
'Sean' explained to The Goth Commander the last understood position of his fellows Columns, He advised him to leave them.Knowing of course the Goth would not do that, even though it would also slow down an oncoming assault.
"Artillery is essentially useless, we spread out, Skibs pray for large groups to drop fire."
"I can only assume they will attack your other Commanders units first as they are unescorted, so less informed on the what they are dealing with, no attack will be made en masse, they will bait, and retreat hoping to lead men out into thin easily killed groups, figure for any accurate count you get the are actually ten times that amount waitng for you.
A common tactic is to drag off enemy dead, and leave behind our own, it makes your losses seem less, it reduces your ability to command if you dont know who is still fighting.
The Order will also take uniforms from the dead. Or intentional wound men to bait rescue, they will mutilate bodies to demoralize your men, often times leaveing men alive as an example.
Never chase, I can not stress this enough, never chase anyone.
The men you leave behind should be only trained snipers, not marksmen but actual snipers, the have the best chance of understanding our tactics, we fight as soldiers on an individual basis, not in units,In Skib we call it the 'Understood Ambush' no Command structure means it cant break down, and you can get very little intel from captured men.
So only leave men who are essentially self suffiecient 'Hunter-Killers'. We have a few surprises in the trees out there."
"Also, random mortar fire just to see if they can shake you up is a common tactic."
