Tsaraine Seeks Elven Genetics (And other species!)

Message Re: Non-Human Genetic Material Wanted

Members of the international community, please do not be alarmed. Tsaraine mantains it's morals; we are not engaged in some kind of underhanded plot, and we have no desire to harm any members of the Elven or other races.

We are simply seeking genetic material from non-human sentient species (primarily elves, as they have the closest genetic similarity to humans, although other species will be considered if offered) to improve the gene pool of the clones and normals of Tsaraine.

By "genetic material" we do not mean the bodies of your departed, or sperm or ova. We ask simply for scientifically prepared tissue samples.

Of course, we understand that species may feel protective of their genetic codes, and thus we are willing to offer compensation if necessary.

We repeat that we have no hostile designs on the Elven races, or any other non-human race; we seek this genetic material only for the benefit of the State.

Sincerely,

"We still have significant amounts of elven tissue remaining due to certain events in our civil war.

A cooperation regarding their use can easily be arranged.

Of course, due to our close relationship to Menelmacar, we must insist that their use is indeed what you claim it will be. Any abuse is simply... unacceptable."

<TO: DOMINA Rene Seingult, Tsarine>
<FROM: HEALTH Directorate, FSP>

As long as you can assure us that samples and information regarding non-human genetics will not be used for any underhanded purpose, we will be willing to provide the information. Medical knowledge should be shared, to the betterment of all sentient peoples.

We can provide genetic information on Elves, a number of Ani-human races, and a few others, should you need it.

I think I recall hearing of those events, yes. While I would hate to profit from the unneccesary suffering of another, your offer is practical.

Please accept my personal assurances as Domina that we are not planning to use this for anything other than what has already been stated; Elves, after all, are immune to disease, are they not?

I too have a healthy respect for Menelmacar. You may rest assured, again, that I and mine have no hostile designs.

Of what race is the genetic data you offer?

I thank you for your kind offer of assistance.

Unfortunately, I can offer nothing more than my personal assurances that we have no immoral designs on any non-human races.

I can only ask you to trust me, although I'm aware that certain less-than-scrupulous nations have cast a shadow of doubt upon any peaceful genetic projects.

And yes, as previously stated I would be most interested in Elven genetic samples, should you offer them.

"In this case, we would say that all requirements are met.

As for the race, the tissue samples are of Menelmacari (Nolderin) origin, and should therefore be perfect for your plans.

However, as a small warning: Tests we have run with them indicate it is possibe that the Nolderin DNA is in fact not responsible for their immunity.

However, as our work is far from being complete, this is of course not a final conclusion, but only a theory.

Regarding your projects, we would like to cooperate. We could give you all necessary data we have regarding our own projects, but would take part in your experiments as well. A bilateral cooperation, so to speak.

Of course this isn`t necessary, however, it is preferable.

We could immediately begin transporting the necessary equipment to Tsaraine, if we get clearance.

From Griffin ITH a 'small' unarmed government shuttle shot upward, accelerating towards a suborbital pass to Tsaraine.

It bore the markings of the Federation Government, Sword dividing a field of eight stars, it's silver and black hull gleaming in the dull light of the morning.

It would take no more than ten minutes to make the hop as the AI computed the perfect trajectory, one clear of obstructions.

Out over the radio spoke a voice "FSP Diplomatic Courier Shuttle 10 to Scheighu Cosmodrome. Requesting landing clearance for delivery of scientific and medical materials."

Two personnel from the Health and Welfare Directorate were on board, and were watching eagerly as the blue sky gave way to black space, having never traveled this way before.

Scientifically prepared tissue samples are infinitely more preferable. While you are correct that, by volume, a corpse has more DNA, volume is not what is necessary, since a single sell also holds the same DNA, and techniques exist to replicate even a small amount of DNA (OOC: This is true today; they splice it into a bacterial plasmid, let the plasmid replicate several thousand times, and get several thousand copies of the DNA).

Also, corpses have the unfortunate habit of decomposing, and most methods of preservation damage the DNA.

That, of course, is not to mention the spiritual problems associated with using bodies for scientific research (as opposed to spiritually and environmentally preferable recycling), and the obvious fact that tissue samples are non-fatal, while providing corpses is fatal to the donatee, unless done post-mortem.

Which is a round-about way of saying that we would not prefer the bodies of the departed, Mr. Vlad.

I can but thank you for your offer and your warning.

However, as this material will eventually become part of the genome of State citizens, I regret I am unable to accept your kind offer of cooperation, due to security concerns.

Despite this, I remain willing to accept your offer of genetic material, and can offer a genome in return; the now-extinct Tsarainese Warcat, a pre-Event modification of the endangered Ryecat to create a police and special forces tracker.

Unfortunately fatalities have already occured. We were planning to perform tissue biopsies for "Vlad's Kebab Shop" but if we can sell the cadavers then that would be infinately preferable. We can of course prepare tissue samples, for a small fee.

Days later:

In DA, under the always grey sky and the dark, black, sometimes green clouds, a transporter started.

On it, 4000 tissue samples from 400 individual beings, plus any necessary equipment to keep it 'fresh'.

The hydrogen/ oxygen explosions in the air were quite heavy, today. But with luck, the plane finally made it out of DA air, and headed towards Tsaraine...

The ocean below them, beautiful in it`s vastness...

Finally, they arrived.

Being expected, they quickly got their permission to land, despite the extreme security measures of Tsaraine...

The plane finally landed, it`s black, shifting surface (and burned left wing, it got catched in a hydrogen explosion) gleaming...

Four men went out of the plane, all of them tall, pale skin, black hair, red eyes... and black uniforms, almost indistinguishable from the night.

With them, the tissue samples.

The shuttle dropped to the end of the landing strip, touching down softly, and the couriers themselves disembarked, a large box floating behind them. The box would be cool to the touch, and was labeled with the international symbol for biohazard and a script, in Common tongue, identifying it as medical supplies.

One of the couriers stepped forward. "Terry Carmichael, FSP, Health and Welfare." He extends a data pad. "This should contain all the data you need, along with the case of material. Will there be anything else?"

OOC: Forgot to ask, SP - what race of Elves are you giving me?

Scheighu Cosmodrome, Scheighu, Tsaraine - FSP bit

"That should be all, thank you," the Tsarainese official replied. "Retahn tsaKinai, SSC Platoon Commandant."

He took the samples and pad, handing them to the Researchers waiting behind him.

"A pleasure meeting you," he continued, although they'd hardly met. "I think that should be all, yes."

Scheighu Cosmodrome, Scheighu, Tsaraine - Der Angst bit, several days later

Standing by to greet the Der Angstians were a contingent of Tsarainese.

Some coincidence of evolution or design meant that the Tsarainese, too, were pale-skinned and black-haired, full-blooded aristocrats, save for a few of the Researchers standing by the sample boxes on the Tsarainese side.

The Tsarainese leader saluted in the Dominion's military style, right fist on chest.

"SSC Platoon Commandant Retahn tsaKinai, sirs. The Warcat samples, recently decanted from storage in Nova Reio."

Retahn indicated the three sealed crates, which were plastered all over with the Tsarainese biohazard sign, a double helix and skull.

"You have the Noldorin samples?" Retahn continued. The Der Angstians nodded, indicating their own sample cases.

"Excellent." Retahn nodded back, and turned to the white-coated Researchers behind him.

"Give them the samples," he snapped in Sekhel.

The Researchers carried the crates forward, and retrieved the Der Angstian samples.

"Do you require assistance in loading the samples?" Retahn inquired politely. The leading Der Angstian shook his head.

"We shall be fine," he replied, the first thing the foreigners had said yet. The other three Der Angstians carried the crates onto their craft.

Retahn bowed, and retreated back across the tarmac, the Researchers following him with the sample cases.

The four men walked back into the plane, after politely bowing to the Tsaraine people.

They, too, were surprised by the interesting similarities between them...

Anyway, they had to head back home. The 'warcat samples' were stored within a few minutes.

They started, slowly heading towards the sky, changing their course, heading back to the Poisoned Industry Wastelands of Der Angst...

After all, it had been quite a nice visit. Efficient people, the Tsarainese, without masses of useless small talk...

Conviniently enough the Ministry of Science's biotechnology department will send the digitally formatted genetic codes for any of those species (and numerous others), except eldar, to anyone pepared to pay the small (a few dozen credits at most) fee for copying and shipping. And depending on the way your computers work, it is also freely available from their academic information networks.

Actual samples could be arranged at cost no doubt...

Your offer is most intriguing. Although we have already been admirably supplied with samples of various Elven species, we would certainly be interested in aquiring digital copies of any other sentient species you can offer.

What genomes could you provide us with?
