Mod Olympics!

[violet]
10-11-2003, 08:30
Previously known as the Mod Academy Awards, this time I decided it was more fun to imagine our Game Mods engaging in sweaty physical contents. Of course, that could be just me.

Here are the results from September through to the present. Note that some of our newer mods haven't had the same length of time to chalk up the results as the older mods, and nevertheless have posted strong showings. These are clearly the ones to watch for next time.

Without further ado, here it is:

1st Event: Help Requests Handled

857 Reploid Productions
625 Neutered Sputniks
569 Scolopendra
169 The Most Glorious Hack
92 The SLAGLands
68 Karmabaijan
21 Melkor Unchained
21 Ineptia
18 Yavin
18 Enodia
3 [violet]
2 GMC Military Arms
Total Help Requests Handled: 2,463

It's the blue-ribbon event, but there are no real surprises, with the favorites taking out the gold, silver, and bronze medals. Scolopendra and Hack in particular put in very strong finishes -- the smart money will already be looking for Hack to take out a medal next time.

2nd Event: Daily Issues Edited

16 Reploid Productions
9 The SLAGLands
8 SalusaSecondus
1 Enodia

Total Issues Edited: 34

A brand new event, and controversial in some quarters. Very few entrants so far, but still, it's gold to Reppy, silver to SLAGLands, and bronze to our Tech Modling, SalusaSecondus, in the only event he is eligible for.

3rd Event: Nations Deleted

557 Neutered Sputniks
286 Reploid Productions
189 Scolopendra
155 The Most Glorious Hack
90 The SLAGLands
41 GMC Military Arms
41 Karmabaijan
21 Ineptia
20 Enodia
20 Menelmacar
14 Melkor Unchained
12 [violet]
Total Nations Deleted: 1,446.

NationStates's own "big bad" Neutered Sputniks claims the gold in this most brutal of sports. There's daylight and then Reppy and Scolo for the silver and bronze.

Let's check the medal tally!

Reploid Productions: 2 gold, 1 silver
Neutered Sputniks: 1 gold, 1 silver
The SLAGLands: 1 silver
Scolopendra: 2 bronze
SalusaSecondus: 1 bronze

4th Event: Nations Ejected from UN

347 Reploid Productions
130 Scolopendra
111 Neutered Sputniks
84 Enodia
64 The Most Glorious Hack
44 Karmabaijan
29 The SLAGLands
3 Ineptia
1 [violet]
Total Nations Ejected: 813.

Once again it's the three heavyweights in amongst the medals, this time with Scolopendra just pipping Neut for the silver. With only one event to go, Reppy looks hard to beat.

5th Event: UN Proposals Removed

418 Enodia
41 GMC Military Arms
10 Neutered Sputniks
8 Reploid Productions
7 Scolopendra
2 The Most Glorious Hack
2 [violet]
Total Proposals Removed: 488

A complete whitewash! Enodia dominates, racking up 10 times the score of the silver medallist, GMC. Neut snaffles a bronze medal, which may come in handy for the final standings. Once again, [violet] stumbles in gasping for breath at the rear.

And that's it! The final standings are:

Reploid Productions: 3 gold, 1 silver
Neutered Sputniks: 1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze
Enodia: 1 gold
Scolopendra: 1 silver, 2 bronze
The SLAGLands: 1 silver
GMC: 1 silver
SalusaSecondus: 1 bronze

But of course, there's more to the Mod Olympics than just medals. For the record, here's the complete list of all Game Mod actions. No doubt our viewing audience today will be as impressed by these numbers as I am -- a harder working bunch you will not find!

It's the mods who keep this game ticking over, day in, day out -- every one of them is a champion.

Yes I know, I was just pointing out that your chance of becoming a moderator stand somewhere around the chances that Dark-Terror has.

Contacting them will not make a difference if you do not help out.

Personally my philosophy is: help out for the fun of it, and if you become a mod you do, and great, you get to help improve the game, if you don't (which is far more likely), you don't, and you continue to help in other ways.

If you *really want* to become a moderator, then you would not be an exceptional candidate for one.

That you can not take gentle teasing is yet anther reason thatyou will not become a mod in the near future. Mods need to be able to withstand great pressure without snapping.

[violet], in addition to coding the site, is a great administrator. [violet] does not need to get involved often. S/he knows how to delegate, and the results are as seen above.

Seems the humor behind my post was dropped when you picked up the words I wrote. No problem, I am sure [violet] knows I was only kidding.

Sorry, Ackbar -- it's hard to read joking or sarcasm. ;)

Ahh, no problem. Keep in mind that even when I am serious, I am always joking.

I was away for three whole days over the weekend, and no-one noticed. Hmm, must go hunting again . . .

I like TG's and Steph's approach; I think they use reason and persuasion. Cog too.
It should be noted that Tactical Grace, Stephistan, and myself are only Forum Mods. [violet] has not bothered to post logs of Forum Mod actions, here.
Though had [violet] done so . . . 8)

Haha TG, I'm not sure the players of NS would consider that a good thing. LOL

That you can not take gentle teasing is yet anther reason thatyou will not become a mod in the near future. Mods need to be able to withstand great pressure without snapping.

because I snap all the time of course

And you just did it again.
That makes twice in two days. . .
In the same thread.
If you were real material for a mod you would just have let it drop.

Hmmm.... :?

Define snapping and what criteria you think apply. That last quote doesn't sound too bad to me.

The rolling eyes and the tone.

Sarcastic moderators get a lot of flak from what I have seen, and personally, I'm nut sure that I'd feel comfortable having a mod on NS who uses sarcasm that frequently. (And I tend to to support the mods) Though that is just me. . .

Actually, if that were the criteria, SalusaSecondus would be well in the lead.

*ignoring the possible flamebait*

In my opinion..."snapping" is screaming via word or font choice, spamming, flaming, using harsh language, etc.

Sarcasm is everyday life and a part of some people's personalities. I can easily take gentle teasing...and much harser "teasing"...and "snap out" rarely...

I have a response, but perhaps it would be better to just drop this.
