2nd Annual Special Forces War Games - Registration Closed

05-11-2003, 16:55
Tallcottia is hosting the 2nd Annual Special Forces War Games.

Due to the resounding success of our last games, we've decided to make them a staple of our military. These games cater to special forces units versed in a wide variety of skills.

Our home islands are well-suited for small-unit tactics and we plan to simulate a diverse group of scenarios. The first SF games included the following scenarios:

Interdiction and boarding of transport vessels
Infiltration and sabotage of military installations
Recon patrols/general area sweeps
Assault on mock terrorist camp
Hostage situation in urban area

Each nation will be allowed to submit one team of no more than ten personnel. Teams will rotate through each event one at a time and all will be able to observe the team currently in action via video. Performance will be critiqued after all teams have completed an event (nightly wrap-up).

Breifings are detailed and include pictures of the objectives in question.

OPFOR will once again be played by the Tallcottian Marine Corps (and they will be controlled by the nation whose team is currently in action - this is the honor system. It's up to all nations to keep it realistic). MILES laser training gear will be used to keep an accurate record of casualties.

All necessary housing and food will be provided by the Tallcottian military, and it will furnish any required vehicles as well - we have C-130s, Humvees, Pave Hawks, etc. The choice of weapons is up to the individual teams.

Note that this is a strictly modern-tech event. Laser weapons, powered armor, dropships and any of that other nonsense (:P) will not be permitted.

Last year's participants:

Sniper Country
Freedom Country
Canada-Germany

There are three slots currently open but we are prepared to accept up to five teams (plus our own SEAL team, totalling six).

Daistallia would be interested in sending a team of Jaegerkommandos.

OOC: Don*t know how much time I*ll have and if I*ll be available at appropriate times...
05-11-2003, 17:37
Evopia: A division is usually about 15,000 troops. We're sure you didn't mean that, but note that the limit is ten troops per nation.

Airom: We'd love to have your troops. Now we will need a roster of the troops with ranks, names (even if they are aliases), and specialty (what weapons they prefer, what roles they usually fill).

Daistallia: It's actually very flexible - I post the mission the night before and you have all day to run your team through it. I Like I mentioned above, you control the entire event, including the Marine opposing forces. Then, at the end of the day, I type up a summary analyzing the teams' performance and put up the next mission.

During the previous games, all of us typed up our team's event in one post. I'll get a link to the old games so you can see what they were like.

(and we'll see just how "crack" your teams are....it takes time and experience to get a really good SF team)
Daistallia
05-11-2003, 17:41
OOC: Cool. I should be able to do that, but RL may possibly require skipping one or two events. We*ll RP any reasons for skipping....

Understood, we'll let you know if anything changes.

UE: great, you're squared away.

Pouliot: Two things: first (even though WWII stuff is great), I think your boys would be a bit outclassed with all the modern stuff (choppers, MILES gear, M4s, etc), and second, we're tentatively filled at the moment. We'll have to see if IH commits and if anyone else changes their minds.

Layarteb: Okay, there's the name. Regardless, the second part of what you quoted was directed at Independent Hitmen (IH).

PS to everyone: Division is a term applied to units of around 15,000 troops - SF doesn't operate in sizes like that (me=military nut :D)

Operators are easily identifiable thanks to their "Mit'znefet (http://www.isayeret.com/gear/helmet/5.jpg)" helmet covers (More on the Mit’znefet (http://www.isayeret.com/camo/cover.htm)). Operators will employ a number of helmet-mounted devices, including Monocular Night Vision Devices (NVD) and Night Vision Goggles (NVG), primarily Litton Personal Vision System 7 (PVS7). Operators may also carry in portable ceramic shields (http://www.isayeret.com/gear/shield/shield.htm).

Standard BDUs are worn, as are Ghillie Suits (optional for Designated Marksmen (DMs)) and/or Personal Camouflage Suits (http://www.isayeret.com/camo/personal.htm) and Camo covers for weapons (especially for DMs).

-----

The Shayetet 13 Operators will be in command of naval-type operations and the transport specialists will operate the team vehicles.

Systems that the team will be arriving with include Desert Raider 6x6 RECCE units and militarized ATVs for ground operations and IDF-issued small watercraft for naval operations. These systems and local helicopters will be used.

If possible, IDF pilots may participate in limited roles as pilots for the teams that are familiar with their style.

I would like to thank you for on behalf of HMC MFR for including them on your war games, their names will not be given here as the teams are highly classified and they have 'alias' identifications when operating outside of Hirgizstan, i trust this meets with your approval and may i wish the best of luck to the other participating nations.

The marines will be leaving at 0600 tomorrow morning and will arrive in approx. 4 hours after departure. They will arrive in two, both by C-5A Galaxy air transports for all the equipment, as soon as they are inside your airspace they are essentially under the duress of your country, you tell then where to land etc.
I trust this meets approval, keep us updated.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

OOC: I tend to post breifly around 1:30 pm and between 1:30-2:00 and 3:00-4:00 am, and occassionally between 10:00 and 12:00 pm Japan time (13 hours ahead of board time, IIRC). Weekends are sketchy. Sometimes I have all day and sometimes no time at all, depending on RL intrusions...
That being said, as I said when signing up, if RL doesn*t allow me to make an event or only allows me minimal posting for an event, I will either do what I can or RP an out due to injury or whatnot. Hopefully I will not have to... :)

Understood.

My current time is 11:34 a.m. - I think that's -5 or -6 GMT.

Typically I post the missions at just about midnight, then hit the sack for the next day's classes.

So to make one thing perfectly clear to all involved - if you see a mission up, don't wait, just post. There is no order, there are no turns, just RP your team going through.

The format:

Remember that you should be able to do it in one long post and that you have control of time of day and the Marine OPFOR. Also remember that they aren't stupid, so chances are you won't run rings around them with a ten-man SF team.

See the past games (I provided the link earlier) to see how we did it. It worked well and people put lots of thought and details into it.

Some other notes:

- Everything that could be important to the outcome of the mission is addressed in the breifing.
- All weapons are simulated with the MILES laser system (which will be explained below).
- In the breifings, there will be maps and pictures to make things easier.

The MILES system

- Each soldier wears on his gear a lightweight MILES laser harness. This system consists of a small processor and a series of sensors which attach to the soldier's web gear and helmet. Each weapon is also fitted with a laser transmitter which fires a different type of (invisible) beam depending on the type of weapon - tank cannons and small arms are modeled realistically. When a soldier is "killed," the MILES gear will start to beep and can only be shut off by observers.
- Every weapon is loaded with blanks.
- When a soldier is "killed," he must sit down immediately and must be treated like a KIA. Soldiers can also be "wounded," at which point they must be treated as such.
- There are certain limitations to the MILES gear - one example was a nation's troops firing at tents in which the enemy was hiding. While it would work with live ammo, it doesn't in wargames.

One question:

Who provides logistics for example can we use our own helicopters for insertion/extraction?

BTW: cool maps, I love OpFlashpoint

Our military has plenty of vehicles (Pave Hawks, C-130s, etc) for use in these games, and in the breifing they are usually the "default" mode of transportation, but you're free to use your own.

As you can see in the past briefings there is usually a suggested "plan of attack" which you don't have to follow, but if you're stumped as to how to proceed, there's usually a basic plan suggested.
