I went back to look at the CL2 thread to see how this was done there, but I see it was in a completely different format. Therefore, I'll have to kinda improvise here.

EDIT: A closer look at the CL3 thread reveals what GZ was planning to do. OK, in that case, I will make it as close to that as I can:

First Qualifying Round
18 teams
will be divided into 3 groups of 6
top 4 teams in each group advance to 2nd qual round (12)

Second Qualifying Round
18 teams already there
12 teams moving up from 1st qual round
30 total teams
will be divided into 5 groups of 6
top 3 teams in each group advance to group stage (15)
top 4th place team advances to group stage (1)

Group Stage
16 teams already there
16 teams moving up from 2nd qual round
32 total teams
will be divided into 8 groups of 4
top 2 teams in each group advance to second round

16 teams left -- go to second round, etc.

Group draws for the first qualifying round will take place shortly.

OOC: Neat structure.

IC: An interview for Progressa TeleSport with Quarua Lakeside manager, Sokama Zrintae, with Baurevai Intia:

BI: Sokama, what would you say about the draw for the first round of the Champions League?
SZ: I'm worried about a few teams - Natodrid are going to be dangerous, Red Dot sides always are, and AC Playboys can't be underestimated. They provided a lot of the team that famously beat Errinundera when they were defending champions, so they must be good.
BI: How far can you progress in this competition?
SZ: Our main objective is to qualify for the second round. There, we could meet X-Teem and who knows, at least knock them out. I'm sure the fans would love that.
BI: I'm sure too. Good luck for the first stage.

Hey, I'm thinking of starting a post were all nations can RP thier Leaue data, i.e. standings, transfers, results and so on. I just dont want to start one and just have my league data be the only one up there, so if anyone else is interested just let me know and I'll start it up soon. I might even make a website for it, since i already have a website for the F1 league.

BTW, matchday 1 results will be generated sometime tomorrow. By "sometime" I mean between about 9am and 9pm forum time. ;) Basically, I have a bunch of work for school due on Tuesday (I get tomorrow off), but I'll find a way to fit it in.

From the KaMaRi Update:

How can you score without attacking?
The game of the Karela Yellows was played in the Sen'la'Sa-o-Promotion Stadium, because the Karela Stadium was much too small for the CL-regulations, but it was in spite of this like a home-game, since also in the play-offs, games are played there. (Sen'la'sa-o was relegated in exactly the year, in which the construction of the 'Promotion Stadium' was finished.)

The first CL-mach was against the nikean club SF Miserias, and Misery was also a good description of the match: the Karela'ny used a very defensive tactic. You could easily see, that the two WC players were missing, because without Su, there is no one in the team who startes the fast attacks. Ja, who played instead of him, was slower and he lost the ball too often in duels. SF Miserias' players got desperate about the defense and even if they kept on attacking, they did not have the one big chance. they did not have any good chance to be exact, but the same applied even more for the Yellows.

The National Collegiate Ahtletic Association has 117 teams in Division 1-A. This is the _National_ association. Just one nation.

There are some of us that already have college league.. for instance, Oglethorpia an I share the Collegiate Sports League, in which we RP a fairly successful American Football sector. However, on an average, we both have c. 25 teams. If every nation had c. 25 teams, seeing as there'd probably be more than one college to go to in a nation, and you got as many people as sign up for this event to sign up, you'd certainly have a lot of teams to keep track of.

So I will not be entering the NSCAA, in short.

Toryo Wolfpack Run Rampant

New Orthanc United Disappointing in Champions League Opener

From our news services...

Matchday 1, New Orthanc, Warnocks Wizards–New Orthanc United began their first-ever Champions League campaign in disappointing fashion last night, losing 3-0 at home to Kingsford side Toryo Wolfpack. The Warnocks Wizards national team struggled four years ago to Kingsford opposition, and New Orthanc United, containing no less than five Warnocks Wizards internationals, were no different. Utilising the 4-3-1-2 that national manager Ufwurz the Furious has made so popular in the Empire, Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer named his best possible side to start the match. Only WW international Grimbrug the Basher was unavailable due to long-term injury. Thrakbag the Sly served as his replacement. The strength of the New Orthanc team, at least domestically speaking, is its stout defense. The skilled Kingsford attack put them to the test from the outset. Goalkeeper Ishhak the Smasher must have felt as if he were in a training session, given the number of shots he faced in the first half alone. The visiting side opened the scoring in the 21st minute when their star striker clinically finished after a nice build up in play. They doubled their lead seventeen minutes later when Shagrukh the Strongclaw slipped in the penalty area, allowing the player he was marking to head home a corner kick. Manager Akhurk must have been disappointing, following his team down the tunnel at halftime trailing 2-0. United came out the better side in the second half, but just could not break down the Wolfpack defense. On the few times when service was good to the frontline, the Toryo goalkeeper proved to be more than adequate in dealing with United’s attempts on goal. The Wolfpack added another goal late on in the 84th minute and ran out deserved 3-0 winners. Manager Akhurk must take consolation in the fact that three sides will qualify from the group, so the side should be able to cope with the odd poor result. Let’s hope United can turn things around on Matchday 2, when they travel to The Weegies to face Mackintosh Armadillos.

New Orthanc United: Ishhak the Smasher, Thrakbag the Sly, Aznakh the Strangler, Shagrukh the Strongclaw (c), Ghazukh the Burner, Globdul the Sneak (Uglok the Slobberer 76), Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Gromrat the Stammerer (Burzgob the Butcher 65), Ghazghash the Sleazy, Skarluk the Ripper (Zagag the Sleak 46), Ishklash the Snooty.

Unused substitutes: Unokh the Abominable, Borbag the Tough.

Thrakhak the Slinger, reporting for WW1

(OOC: In terms of timing, I am RPing as if these Champions League matches are taking place midweek, in between World Cup qualifying matches. This allows me to use international players in both sets of matches, if healthy. As this is generally how such schedules are handled in RL, I feel I am being realistic in this.)

(OOC: I'm following the Wizards example, since it's pretty difficult to continuously create Nikean-sounding names ;P Roster will be up soon, however.

Also, in case anyone wants to make a play on words with the city of "Miserias", it literally means "City of Bliss" [Miseri being the Nikean word for 'Bliss']. Thought it was ironic since Rejistania mentioned Misery :p )

SF Miserias Kick of Champions League with Boring 0-0 Draw
-Leresin Masketel

KARELA, REJISTANIA(NP) - It was quite a boring midweek Champions League matchup between Nikean Premiership champions SF Miserias, and Rejistani champions Karela Lines.

It appeared that offence had totally abandoned the two sides, as the Yellows and the Blues played a match that will easily be forgotten. The two sides combined for a total of five shots. Miserias keeper and national team substitute Kalessin Quertel made only two easy saves throughout the match, and the only solid chance came when national starter Kerinen Irisiuene struck a ball off the outside of the post.

There was little that could be taken from this match, and Miserias manager Mirinen Kasteritel will have to really make his team go for the goal more in the next match in Belmorian Scandinavia, where the Blues take on Belmorian Scandinavian champion Coralstone United.

LAKESIDE FAIL TO MAKE SPLASH

Quarua Lakeside fell 3-1 to Sutton FC in their first Champions League match of the season.

The Lakesiders, who made an inauspicious debut in the competition last season, fell two goals behind in 23 minutes, before Fayu Owa gave the Lakesiders a glimmer of hope with a goal from a free kick three minutes before half-time. In the 53rd minute the hope ended with a bizarre goal which deflected off the elbow of goalkeeper Mussaret on its way in.

Salamanders Drop First Champions League Match

GRACEVILLE, LM -- Yesterday, the Graceville Salamanders played host to a team from the Weegies, the Mackintosh Armadillos, at Westin Stadium. It was hoped that the Bedistan Football League's first entry into international play (aside from the World Cup) would be a successful one.

Midfielder Claire Briscoe, who also plays on the Bedistan World Cup team, got things rolling with a nice corner kick in the 18th minute that just slipped past the Armadillo defender into the goal, bringing Graceville up 1-0. Mackintosh quickly equalized, though, with Clinton Mehler being caught off his line six minutes later. The score stayed tied at halftime.

The second half was a disaster. As the Salamanders began to concentrate heavily on offense, the back lines weren't receiving much action. As such, the defense wasn't ready when Tyrone Maisonet's foot slipped, sending the ball backwards -- all the way into the Salamanders' net. Tyrone was certainly not happy about having scored the own goal there, and coach Ted Liddle didn't look pleased, either.

After this first disappointing loss, the team will next face Nastic City, again at Westin Stadium.

Final score:
Graceville Salamanders 1 [Briscoe 18]
Mackintosh Armadillos 2 [<player> 24, Maisonet OG 69]

New Orthanc United Earn First Point in Champions League

Domestic Champs Battle Mackintosh Armadillos to 1-1 Draw

From our news services...

Matchday 2, The Weegies–New Orthanc United traveled to The Weegies for matchday 2 of Champions League qualifying to face Mackintosh Armadillos. Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer made three changes to the starting lineup that was so disappointing against Toryo Wolfpack last week. Giant midfielder Ufgob the Tough replaced Globdul the Sneak, skilled midfielder Burzgob the Butcher came in for the mercurial Gromrat the Stammerer, and temperamental forward Zagag the Sleak started in place of Skarluk the Ripper. With a stronger midfield and a quicker frontline, it was obvious that Akhurk was trying to play a counter-attacking game. Saruman’s lads began the game brightly, with midfielder Burzgob running the midfield quite efficiently, and organising his cohorts effectively. United stunned the Armadillo crowd by netting the opening goal of the match in the 28th minute. Midfielder Ghaztrak the Deathskull stripped an opponent, flipping the ball up to world class striker Ishklash the Snooty. The Snooty-ied one, as he’s done so often on the big stage, turning his defender several ways and laid the ball off for his partner Zagag. Zagag’s strike was well saved by the Armadillo keeper, but the save was spilled into the path of the on-rushing Ghazghash the Sleazy, who easily deposited the ball into the empty net. United shut down the home side for the remainder of the half. Halftime: Armadillos 0, United 1.

The second half was all Armadillos with the home side pushing desperately for an equaliser while the opponent’s continued to sit back and score on the counter. New Orthanc nearly doubled their lead on 57 minutes, but Zagag’s shot was well saved by the Mackintosh keeper. United would rue the fact that they hadn’t scored that goal as the home side drew level in the match just seven minutes later. The Armadillos finished off a nice period of possession by finding the killer ball and punishing the Warnocks Wizards side. New Orthanc fortunately held on for the final half hour, thanks largely to the contribution of their international goalkeeper, Ishhak the Smasher. All in all, a good point on the road against a side that had won their first match. Full time: Mackintosh Armadillos 1, New Orthanc United 1.

New Orthanc United: Ishhak the Smasher, Thrakbag the Sly, Aznakh the Strangler, Shagrukh the Strongclaw (c), Ghazukh the Burner, Ufgob the Tough, Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Burzgob the Butcher, Ghazghash the Sleazy (Globdul the Sneak 80), Zagag the Sleak, Ishklash the Snooty (Ghazkul the Mucous 85).

Unused substitutes: Unokh the Abominable, Skarluk the Ripper, Ghashtrash the Destroyer.

New Orthanc United returns home to The Tower for matchday 3, where they will face Bedistan side Graceville Salamanders. Apparently, the nation of The Belmore Family will be cheering for the Salamanders.

Iaus de Vere, Wolfpack Notch 2nd CL Win

Coach John Iaus de Vere, at 26, is the youngest coach in the Kingsford Football Association. His team, the Toryo Wolfpack, is the youngest team, the eldest being 31, and the youngest being 16.
"We might lack on experience, but we have skill and energy." Says Iaus de Vere about his team. "And the teams we face off against are no cakewalk. These are the best teams from these nations, sent here to represent their country's football program, and they've done it well."
Iaus de Vere, who has had two shutouts so far, tackled Akhurk the Slaughterer's New Orthanc United and their acclaimed defense. Getting by was no easy task, as the ball stayed at midfield for all but 16% of the game. "Swift just got lucky and put a hat trick in when he got the shots." said John.
This weekend, he traveled to Europa Brittania, co hosts of World Cup 9, to take on Khandrais United. This time, it was the right forward, Mike Odyssey, who also starts on the Kingsford National, who knocked one in halfway through the 2nd half.
Iaus de Vere hopes to keep up his good luck during the remainder of qualifyling. The match results can be found in Kingsford Today, or online at the Athletic Review site, www.athleticreview.co.kn .

Weegies Star Sport Report

There were tears in Westin Stadium last night, as the Armadillos took their first scalp of the Champions League, against favoured Bedistani side Graceville Salamanders. Bedistan is of course, well known as a major footballing nation, and no pundit was expecting a victory away to them.

And so it seemed to begin with, an odd goal scored by Claire Briscoe in the 18th minute, taking a corner which sailed over the head of Reuter, arced round and past McVeigh to give the Salamanders the lead.

But the domestic team didn't seem as totally formidable as the worthy national side, and six minutes later, with Smith getting the ball near the area from Whyte, and noticing goalkeeper Mehler off his line, dribbled past a Salamander defender and chipped it over Mehler's head to gain a vital equaliser. After this shock, confidence was boosted in the Armadillo camp, but they were unable to break the toughened Salamander defence.

And so they were unable to do, as in the second half the Salamanders started to attack heavily, leaving the Armadillos having to track back and defend well. Unfortunately for the Salamanders, defender Tyrone Maisonet wasn't ready for a sudden back-pass in the 69th minute, and looked enraged as it slipped past his foot and straight into their own net.

And so the Armadillo fans went home happy, as they won their first international encounter. But next may be a tough one, with interesting side New Orthanc United from Warnock's Wizards coming to the Dear Green Place to play.

Weegies Star Sport Report

As was expected, New Orthanc United was a toughie, with the teams sharing the points after a 1-1 draw at the Dear Green Place. No changes were made, even though lately star striker Smith is looking not 100%, probably due to having play World Cup, domestic, and international matches.

The Warnock's Wizards side looked strong, and a counter attacking style of play led to the Armadillo side rushing about trying to prevent the Orthanc from breaking through. And with the more effective Orthanc midfield dominating the field, it looked only a matter of time before the Armadillos conceded a goal.

And so they did. In the 28th minute, midfielder Ghaztrak the Deathskull outperformed former international Stewart, crossing it in to striker Ishklash the Snooty, who dribbled past Johnston, passing it to Zagag the Sleak, who shot at goal only to be denied by a fine save from McVeigh. But he could only parry the ball, and as he fell, the ball fell to Ghazghash the Sleazy, who slotted home the rebound to give New Orthanc United the lead. And for the remainder of the half, they retreated, locking down the attack to stop the home side from equalising.

The Armadillos threw all caution to the wind on the second half, pressing deep into the Orthanc half, who continued to soak up the punishment, and looked happy to run down the clock. The kamikaze tactics almost proved to be their downfall, with striker Zagag nearly making it two-nil, McVeigh denying him once again.

Finally the Armadillos broke through, with possession of the ball, a sweeping cross from Whyte led to the head of Jorgenson who nodded it past goalkeeper Ishhak the Smasher to equalise. The home side tried to press an advantage home, but Ishhak didn't make any more errors, and saved like an international standard goalkeeper should. In the end, it was Mackintosh Armadillos 1 - 1 New Orthanc United.

OOC: No one RPs Orwell Utd against Karela Lines?

From the Karela Lines Homepage
1 - 1, YASD against Orwell Utd
The Yellows had played a very good match against God Squad's side Orwell Utd, but despite of this, it ended as a YASD (yet another slani draw). Su didn't play in this match, he said, that at the moment, the domestic league and the World Cup are his top-priorities, so Ra had to play on his position. Hana Yla also did not play in the starting formation, but coach Rikex changed him in in the 67th minute.
The defense was again the most important part of the game, but Rikex changed from, what was called by critics 11-0 (eleven players in the own half and securing the 0) to an a bit more offensive tactics.
In the 14th minute, Gil fouled <player> and the referee showed him red and the Orwells made their goal in the penalty shot, they got. Dene made the equalizer in the 70th minute, when he used a short thoughtlessness of the defense to get to a good position.

Suggested way for entery next time

Current amount of nations in real UEFA-52
Current amount of ranked nations in the world cups-150
So I will times all the stats by 4

1st Qualifing Round
22 champions from countries ranked 108 or lower

2nd Qualifing Round
involving 28 teams:
11 winners from 1st qualifying round
11 champions from countries ranked 64-107
6 second-placed teams from countries ranked 40-63

3rd Qualifing Round
involving 32 teams:
14 winners from 2nd qualifying round
6 champions from countries ranked 40-63
3 second-placed teams from countries ranked 28-39
6 third-placed teams from countries ranked 1-27
3 fourth-placed teams from countries ranked 1-12

Group Stage
involving 8 groups of 4 teams each:
16 winners from 3rd qualifying round
9 champions from countries ranked 1-39
6 second-placed teams from countries ranked 1-28
1 defending cup holder

Play offs
involving 16 teams:
8 group second-placed teams and 8 winners from group stage
play the 2nd round, the quarter finals, the semi finals, and the final

So this equates to:
1 teams if you are a nation between 108 and 150
2 teams if you are a nation between 64 and 107
2 teams if you are a nation between 40 and 63
2 teams if you are a nation between 28 and 39

(Holy Imperial City, Dragonia) Karela lines just experienced their first Champions League defeat against Dragons FC in Holy Imperial City. The Karela'ny started well, but unfortunatly, Ja saw red after one very rude foul, which means, that now also the substitue for international Su is out (although this enhances the chance of Su's appearance in the CL). Now the offense collapsed and it was only Haxda'he Su to prevent an even higher loss.

New Orthanc United Notches first Champions League Victory

From our news services...

Matchday 3, New Orthanc, Warnocks Wizards–With proud chairman Saruman II, the Wise but Not Quite Sane, looking on, New Orthanc United recorded its first ever Champions League victory with a 2-0 win over Bedistan side Graceville Salamanders at The Tower in New Orthanc. Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer made one change to the side that drew with Mackintosh Armadillos: midfielder Globdul the Sneak regained his starting spot over Ufgob the Tough. The home side, nicknamed the Hand of Saruman, controlled the match from the opening kick off. Midfielder Ghaztrak the Deathskull impressively marshaled the attack on numerous occasions, displaying an excellent football brain that perhaps is not far from being picked for the full national side. His partnership with Burzgob the Butcher is developing quite nicely in the center of the park, and it was the latter player who opened the scoring on 28 minutes. Zagag the Sleak held the ball well up front, laying it off to the overlapping Ghazukh the Burner. The burned one that pulled back a nice cross in front of the defense for the onrushing Burzgob whose shot beat Salamander goalkeeper Clinton Mehler to the near side. 1-0 to United. The Warnocks Wizards champs doubled the lead just 6 minutes before the half courtesy of Zagag. Ishklash the Snooty stole the ball off of Claire Briscoe starting a counter attack. His quick pass to Ghazghash the Sleazy sent the Sleazy one away one on one with keeper Mehler, who did well to parry the shot. Unfortunately for the visitors, Zagag was too sleak for the defense and was first to pounce on the rebound for an easy goal. It was 2-0 at the half to New Orthanc United. While visiting Graceville had a couple of chances in the final 45 minutes, there was only ever going to be one winner. Full time: New Orthanc United 2, Graceville Salamanders 0.

New Orthanc United: Ishhak the Smasher, Thrakbag the Sly, Aznakh the Strangler, Shagrukh the Strongclaw (c) (Ghazkul the Mucous 74), Ghazukh the Burner, Globdul the Sneak, Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Burzgob the Butcher, Ghazghash the Sleazy (Uglok the Slobberer 82), Zagag the Sleak, Ishklash the Snooty (Ghashtrash the Destroyer 67).

Unused substitutes: Unokh the Abominable, Skarluk the Ripper.

For matchday 4, New Orthanc travels to Kingsford to face group leaders Toryo Wolfpack. United will be trying to avenge the 3-0 defeat suffered on matchday 1.

Salamanders Not Off to Good Start at All

NEW ORTHANC -- The Graceville Salamanders may have been the Bedistan Football League champions in 2012, 2015, and 2016, but so far they have proven to be no match whatsoever for the greatest domestic teams of the world. Last night, they fell flat on their faces again at The Tower in New Orthanc.

Twenty-eight minutes in, New Orthanc's Zagag the Sleak made a pass to Ghazukh the Burner, who in turn sent the ball back across the field toward Burzgob the Butcher. Salamander goalkeeper Clinton Mehler was simply not able to move fast enough to catch up, and Burzgob's shot put the home team up one-nil.

About ten minutes later, star midfielder Claire Briscoe was quite surprised when the ball was literally stolen out from under her feet by Ishklash the Snooty. Ishklash passed over Ghazghash the Sleazy, whose shot on goal was turned back by Mehler. Alas, Zagag the Sleak would quickly take the rebound, and United moved ahead 2-0.

The Salamanders made a few half-hearted attempts to come up with a goal of their own in the second half, but all failed as the team records its third straight loss.

"Well, these teams are certainly tougher than Hampton and High Mountain," Briscoe commented after the match, referring to the second and third-place finishers in the 2016 BFL season. "We're gonna have to step it up several notches, I guess."

Final score:
New Orthanc United 2 (Burzgob the Butcher 28, Zagag the Sleak 39)
Graceville Salamanders 0

Erg, it's been three days again, and I have bookoos of homework again tonight...perhaps I jumped the gun on trying to host this. I'm going to try to get matchday 4 results out tonight though, and hopefully get back to one a day afterward. If I can't get them out tonight for some reason, they will definitely be in your telegram boxes tomorrow (tomorrow morning if I have to ;)).

St. Peter the MVP...?
Carl Tiber, AP

TORYO - 52,143 fans packed ToryoTech Field (the second sellout in franchise history) for the Wolfpack's first home game against New Orthanc United. The club had played New Orthanc United before, in Warnocks Wizards, gaining a 3-0 win. However, according to midfielder Bryant Bjorn, "We weren't feeling the energy there... we have a great fan base, and we seem to do a lot better at home."

The matchday result was a solid 3-1, a one goal margin over the last two victories, but not as much of a goal margin as the opener against New Orthanc, which was a hat trick shutout by Jon Swift.

Swift has 4 total goals so far. Odyssey has three. But today's game was ended with an unexpected goal by... a defender?

Nate St. Peter has been the latest hype all throughout Toryo. He was named man of the match against Nastic City, and has claimed the title for a second consecutive match. St. Peter personally stopped 9 attacks in a 2 or more on 1 situation down in Wolfpack Territory, and achieved a greater feat last night, stoping a total of 12 out manned attacks, the final counting as a goal.

Stopping an attack by Zagag, the only New Orthanc player with a goal last night, he booted the ball long and hard. The keeper was caught off guard, and it was all too late as it bounced into the net.

The Toryo Wolfpack sit atop of Group 1 with four wins. The next match will be against the Mackintosh Armadillos, which is sold out, however the Wolfpack takes on Kandrais United two matches later.

Tickets are still available through 1-800-TORYO-WP and 1-800-INTL-TKS or online, at www.internationaltickets.co.kn. Air of the games will be on The Athletic Review, a full stats column is available in every issue of Kingsford Today, and on post match days in the Toryo Islander.

Salamanders Turn it Around

MACKINTOSH, THE WEEGIES -- After opening this year's Champions League competition with three straight losses, many fans were already counting the Graceville Salamanders out.

Until tonight.

Midfielder Claire Briscoe was in top form as usual, and she scored two quick goals to open the match. After that, everything calmed down a bit, with both sides playing defensively for the rest of the first half. Graceville was still up 2-0 at halftime.

Clinton Mehler slipped up early in the second half, allowing an Armadillo goal from the box. Mackintosh would not get many more chances, though, as the Graceville Salamanders went back on the attack. Forward Ashley Calderwood added insult to injury for the home team by piling on two more goals. When it was all over, there was silence in the stadium but rejoicing throughout the Graceville metropolitan area.

Final score:
Mackintosh Armadillos 1 (51)
Graceville Salamanders 4 (Briscoe 9, 15; Calderwood 66, 83)

Toryo Wolfpack Kings of the Pitch Once Again

Depleted New Orthanc United Defeated 3-1 in Kingsford

From our news services...

Matchday 4, Toryo, Kingsford–A Warnocks Wizards side lost again to a Kingsford side. Nothing new there, then. Coming in to last night’s match between New Orthanc United and Kingsford’s United Southern League champions Toryo Wolfpack, a Kingsford side has won all three matches between representatives of the two nations. The hoodoo continues as a depleted United side lost 3-1.

United Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer was forced to make several changes to his lineup as the National Five (Ishhak the Smasher, Shagrukh the Strongclaw, Ghazukh the Burner, Ghazghash the Sleazy, and Ishklash the Snooty) were all ruled out due to injury and exhaustion suffered from World Cup qualifying. As a result, there were starting spots for Unokh the Abominable in goal, Ghazkul the Mucous and Borbag the Tough in defense, Gromrat the Stammerer in midfield, and target man Ghashtrash the Destroyer in attack. The Hand of Saruman lined up in a 4-4-2 and went with little and large pair Zagag the Sleak and Ghashtrash up front.

The home side began the match brightly and were proving a challenge for the changed United side. Ghazkul the Mucuous was particularly having difficulty running with his opponent Jon Swift. The quick one set up the first goal of the match on 12 minutes when his seeing ball finished up an epic buildup that was finished off by Mike Odyssey. Aznakh was furious with his defensive partner Ghazkul, and ended up throttling him on the pitch. The referee curiously then sent off Aznakh for assaulting his teammate. The Mucuous one fortunately recovered and was able to continue. With the visitors now a man down, it was inevitable the home side would add to their lead before the end of the half. Odyssey created more tragedy for United when he scuffed one by goalkeeper Unokh just before the whistle. Half time: Toryo Wolfpack 2, New Orthanc United 0.

Ten man United began the second half well and actually were controlling play. A series of attacks were repelled by the impressive defender Nate St. Peter. St. Peter was a rock in Toryo’s defense and was admirably dealing with the final ball. A bit of individual brilliance just before the hour mark, however, allowed United a way back in to the match. Ghashtrash’s nod down seemed harmless enough as it reached Zagag amongst three Wolfpack defenders. With a deft touch, the Sleak one nutmegged two opponents and drilled on in to the far corner. A goal worthy of an international, signaling another excellent performance by Zagag. National Manager Ufwurz the Furious must surely be considering including the youngster in the upcoming Cup of Harmony tournament. New Orthanc continued to press the home side for an equaliser, but again were held out by the Rock. St. Peter capper off a terrific match of his own with a bizarre goal in the dying minutes. Stripping Zagag of the ball, the defender thought of safety first and boomed the ball down the pitch. Unokh made an abominable slip, allowing the ball to bound into the net for an undeserved third goal for the home side. While the final score may have flattered the Wolfpack, the result did not and they ran out 3-1 winners.

New Orthanc United: Unokh the Abominable, Thrakbag the Sly (c), Aznakh the Strangler, Ghazkul the Mucous, Borbag the Tough, Globdul the Sneak (Ufgob the Tough 13), Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Burzgob the Butcher, Gromrat the Stammerer (Skarluk the Ripper 46), Ghashtrash the Destroyer, Zagag the Sleak.

Unused substitutes: Baggash the Slobberer, Uglok the Slobberer, Muzwurz the Shy.

New Orthanc United returns home to The Tower for matchday 5, where they will host NASTIC 2 champs Nastic City.

Or, how about this:

No one gets penalized because of their name. Or expelled from CL.

Somehow, I don't see a need for a CLC, probably because there's usually only one hosting bid offered and such, and there's really not that much organization put into it, just getting random numbers from excel. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the only reason this was brought up was so that you could be on a Comittee... just a guess.

Because honestly, looking back througj the posts that you guys have just made, there's been no real reason presented in favor of a CLC, save for the "8 point penalty" on the Team from Pure Evil. Which is a crappy reason to form a comittee, given that the host has already decided against hurting the team because of their name.

Victory at The Tower

Hand of Saruman Sweeps Away Opponents Nastic City 4-1

From our news services...

Matchday 5, New Orthanc, Warnocks Wizards–New Orthanc United returned home last night with a healthy, rested squad. The return of the club’s five internationals proved the distance as The Hand of Saruman swept aside NASTIC 2's Primera League champs Nastic City by a score of 4-1. A brace of goals by the ever-impressing Zagag the Sleak and single strikes by Ishklash the Snooty and Ghazghash the Sleazy provided the offense. The stout defense was led by international goalkeeper Ishhak the Smasher and defenders Shagrukh the Strongclaw and Ghazukh the Burner. Borbag the Tough was also named to the starting eleven in place of the suspended Aznakh the Strangler.

United began play in the familiar 4-3-1-2 in front of a sell out crowd at The Tower. National Manager Ufwurz the Furious looked on from his familiar seat in the stands that he so often utilised in World Cup 8 qualifying. United began well with Ghazghash and Burzgob the Butcher linking up well in midfield. Enjoying the lion’s share of possession, it was only a matter of time before the home side took the lead. In the 7th minute, Zagag deftly deadened a diagonal ball from Ghazukh, controlling the ball in to the box, and duly struck one past the defenseless Nastic City goalkeeper. 1-0 to United and the crowd were calling for more. Ten minutes later, Zagag poached a second to double his tally and his side’s lead. Ishklash’s initial shot, off of a good ball from Ghaztrak the Deathskull, was pushed out by the visiting keeper. Zagag was first to the rebound, demonstrating a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He comfortably deposited the gift for a 2-0 lead. This brought Chairman Saruman II, the Wise But Not Quite Sane, to his feet as the home crowd passed adulations onto the budding striker. Two minutes before the half, Ishklash made it three when Shagrukh’s headed corner was pushed by the keeper right into his path. Another easy finish gave New Orthanc a 3-0 lead at the half.

Nastic City played strictly for pride in the second half, the result all but decided. They managed to pull one back on 66 minutes when their lead striker laced one into the bottom corner, proving too elusive for keeper Ishhak. United then regained control of the match and restored the three goal lead on 78 minutes when Ghazghash’s beautiful free kick was thundered home. Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer must be thrilled with his side’s performance, especially given their poor showing in Kingsford last week. Full time: New Orthanc United 4, Nastic City 1.

New Orthanc United: Ishhak the Smasher, Thrakbag the Sly, Borbag the Tough, Shagrukh the Strongclaw (c), Ghazukh the Burner, Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Ghazghash the Sleazy, Gromrat the Stammerer, Burzgob the Butcher (Globdul the Sneak 80), Zagag the Sleak, Ishklash the Snooty (Skarluk the Ripper 82).

Unused substitutes: Baggash the Slobberer, Ghazkul the Mucous, Muzwurz the Shy.

For their next match in Champions League Qualifying, New Orthanc United travels to Europa Brittania side Khandrias United.

"Just for the fun of it!"

(Sen-la-Sa~o*, Rejistania) Imagine, you are chief of a soccer team, that is last in the table and doesn't see any chance to improve, how would you react? Fire the coach? Buy many top-stars and get your team deeply in debt? Eseke Ru, chief of the team Karela lines, chose a different option: "We are now playing, like we should: Just for the fun of it! If we're first, we're first and if we're last, we're last, we are amateurs and have a right to fail and to have fun despite of this. Let's play Hakuna Matata soccer!"

Against Pablicosta side 'Opium City Rovers', they were to show, what Ru ment by this. And they did. It was no exact difference, but a change in attitude. They won more duels, they played nearly offensive and at the end, they did not lose. The result was 1-1. One goal was scored by Xensu Hidas, the other was scored by <player>, but since goalie Su Haxda was the last to touch the ball, it counted as an own goal.

Su Haxda, Taladi Liik, Vaka Mese, Hana Yla, Milxi I Jen (76th Ju Kava), Nanek Desna, Iku Lyku, Nanis Ri, Xensu Idas, Tareki Xki, Idan Ra (70th Xeseja Su)

* As I mentioned in a previos RP, they don't play in Karela but in Sen-la-sa~o, which is also a KaMaRian suburb.

New Orthanc United Gain Well-Earned Point in Battle of Uniteds

Champions League Side Draws 1-1 with Khandrias United

From our news services...

Matchday 6, Europa Brittania–With much of the nation’s footballing attention and over half of their starting eleven concentrating on the Cup of Harmony, New Orthanc United earned an important away point against ranked side Khandrias United in Europa Brittania. With no less than six of his starters involved in the national team’s excellent victory over The Dragonian Empire, Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer was forced to make extensive changes to his lineup. Baggash the Slobberer was chosen over Unokh the Abominable in goal. Grimbrug the Basher, a national team regular just returning from long-term injury, started at left back. Globdul the Sneak came in to play on the left side of midfield. Target man Ghashtrash the Destroyer and striker Skarluk the Ripper were the front pairing. Due to all of the international call ups, United were forced to go with a short substitutes bench, with only four players remaining on the roster.

Home side Khandrias United, ranked 12th in the world, began the game well and were obviously going to test the makeshift Hand of Saruman side. Khandrias’ front two were giving the slower New Orthanc defense problems. However, young keeper Baggash the Slobberer, making his debut in the Champions League, was surprisingly handling the early pressure well. Unlike the Abominable one, heretofore the No 2 goalie, Baggash was judging high balls effectively and dealing well with crosses. Unfortunately, given his salivating problem, he occasionally has problems catching the ball and is prone to employ the bounce save to deal with low shots that have pace. Such an approach led to the opening goal of the match on 25 minutes. Seemingly saving a well struck shot, Baggash spilled the rebound to Khandrias’ No. 11, who duly tapped it in to make it 1-0 to the home side. Seeing the potential for more such goals, Manager Akhurk encouraged his players to play their men tighter in the defensive third to try to prevent similar opportunities for Khandrias. Playing with a little more intensity, New Orthanc were able to hold the Europa Brittania side to just the one goal in the half.

Encouraged by half-time reports from the Empire that the National Team were winning in the first match of the Cup of Harmony, the Warnocks Wizards side looked to take the second half to the home side. While Khandrias seemed to be dealing with the attacks effectively, the Hand of Saruman equalised in bizarre fashion on 63 minutes. After a well held save from a wicked Burzgob the Butcher shot, the Khandrias goalkeeper looked to start a quick counter attack going the other way. In his haste, he mis-hit his punt and the ball rocketed into the backside of New Orthanc target man Ghashtrash the Destroyer and ricocheted into the net. Ghashtrash and his mates celebrated in partial dis-belief and, after some stout defending by New Orthanc for the rest of the match, the battle of the Uniteds ended in a 1-1 draw.

New Orthanc United: Baggash the Slobberer, Grimbrug the Basher, Thrakbag the Sly (c), Ghazkul the Mucous, Borbag the Tough, Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Globdul the Sneak, Gromrat the Stammerer (Ufgob the Tough 79), Burzgob the Butcher, Ghashtrash the Destroyer, Skarluk the Ripper.

Unused substitutes: Unokh the Abominable, Uglok the Slobberer, Muzwurz the Shy.

For their next match in Champions League qualifying, New Orthanc United returns home to The Tower on matchday 7 to play The Weegies side Mackintosh Armadillos. Some or all of New Orthanc’s six internationals may be cleared to play for their club side, depending on events at The Cup of Harmony.

Still waiting for first victory

Everyone did his best, this includes players and fans, but despite this, we archieved YASL (1-2) against Belmorian Scandinavia side Coralstone United. Since Su and Yla are again needed in the national team, they didn't play.

Ra shocked the Belmorians by a goal in the first minute, by this marking a new CL record. Coralstone had more chances, since they did not lack their best players. In the 30th minute, some player called Belmore equalized the score. In the 64th minute, another player with the same name archieved the 1-2 for Coralstone.

From the Daily Kangaroo:

LAKESIDERS MAKE A SPLASH ON THEIR TRAVELS

Quarua Lakeside's bid to reach the second round of the Champions League earned a massive boost last night as they defeated Natodrid 3-1 away.

Natodrid took the lead on eight minutes when <player> nodded a downward header from a corner into the bottom corner, but Faiwe Irafma equalised just two minutes later from a spectacular curling, dipping free kick from 30 yards.

The Lakesiders weathered a late first-half storm with some fine saves from giant keeper Mammoth Save (the side's sole registered foreign player) before producing a more successful one of their own midway through the second, Ekazen Waulino's toe-poke from a Rigondo Romatta cross on 63 minutes and Irafma's powerful strike from 20 yards three minutes later effectively killing off the game.

The massive penalty handed to the Pure Evil XI for allegedly being a ringer for the national side has ensured that Lakeside have a real chance of qualifying.

Orwell United messes up venue!

The God Squad side Orwell United arrived yesterday in time at the Karela Stadium. But as most of you know, our Champions league matches are played at the Sen-la-Sa~o Promotion Stadium, since the Karela Stadium is too small and too insecure for Champions League. Karela lines chief Eseke Ru commented this: "I knew, something like this would happen. Till now, only the media thought the games were in Karela, it was just a matter of time, till any team would travel to the wrong place." But since Karela and Sen-la-Sa~o are both suburbs of KaMaRi kali, it is not such a long way.

The game was less funny. Karela lines lost 0-2.

Globmazh the Mean Calls for Investigation

Football Federation Chairman Speaks out on Champions League Controversy

From our news sources...

New Orthanc, Warnocks Wizards--Football Federation President Globmazh the Mean has spoken out today criticizing the result of a Matchday 6 Champions League fixture between New Orthanc United and Khandrias United. With the referee seemingly blowing the whistle for full time and pointing to the centre circle signaling the end of the match, the New Orthanc side celebrated thinking they had earned a vital 1-1 away draw against the highly favoured opposition. The Warnocks Wizards side left the pitch and headed to their changing room to pack up their things and prepare for the return journey to Middle Earth.

Meanwhile, the players and staff could hear the crowd cheering in the stadium. It later turned out the match had resumed without New Orthanc United on the pitch! Khandrias United had scored a goal with no opponents to challenge them and were awarded a 2-1 victory. The referee, who bore a striking resemblance to the infamous Carlos Contramistic, could not be reached for comment after the match.

Upon hearing of this shambolic fiasco, the officials and players of New Orthanc United were incensed. It made for a very bitter journey home. Today Globmazh the Mean issued a short statement on the matter:

"The Champions League match that recently took place against Khandrias was a complete shambles. I have never seen such a farcical result in all my life in football. I hereby call for the CLWCC or whatever the self-appointed group that runs this league calls themself, to investigate this joke of a match. Once again, the established nations of world football are doing their best to prevent the newer nations from breaking in on their parade. This must stop now. We call for justice!"

Stay tuned for further developments in this matter.

Thrakhak the Slinger, reporting for WW1

OOC: We are not as incensed as this report would suggest. Most of this is IC banter. One would hardly expect federation officials to accept this. In the end, we grudgingly cede the result must stand as is (unless Europa Britannia was also TGed a 1-1 scoreline.) It is slightly annoying to be TGed one result, only to see the official post showing a different result.

New Orthanc Avenges Controversial Loss with Victory at The Tower

United Defeats Weegies Side Mackintosh Armadillos 3-2

From our news services...

Matchday 7, New Orthanc, Warnocks Wizards–With the return of their national stars, New Orthanc United returned to their winning ways in the Champions League, dispatching The Weegies side Mackintosh Armadillos at The Tower by a 3-2 score line. Ironically, it was National Team Manager Ufwurz the Furious’ decision to rest the New Orthanc players against The Weegies national team at the Cup of Harmony that allowed United manager Akhurk the Slaughterer to select the players for his match against The Weegies’ Armadillo side.

Therefore, returning to the lineup were internationals Ishhak the Smasher in goal, Shagrukh the Strongclaw and Ghazukh the Burner in defense, Ghazghash the Sleazy in midfield, and Ishklash the Snooty in attack. Only striker Zagag the Sleak was unavailable as he played the full ninety minutes in the Cup of Harmony match. United lined up in their familiar 4-3-1-2 and looked to take the game to the opposition from the outset.

United began the match well, Ghazghash the Sleazy and Burzgob the Butcher linking up nicely in midfield. Skarluk the Ripper came close to scoring but his strike from twelve yards was rejected by the woodwork. At the other end, Armadillos had a good chance, but Ishhak saved it in the end. The home side opened the scoring on 28 minutes. Ghaztrak the Deathskull stripped on opponent at midfield setting Gromrat the Stammerer away on the right wing. The Stammerer’s pinpoint cross found an open Skarluk in the box. The tall striker did well to finish past the Mackintosh keeper. 1-0 to New Orthanc United. The lead would only last eight minutes. Grimbrug the Basher’s poor pass was intercepted and the Armadillos made the home side pay with a leveling goal. At halftime the score was even at 1-1.

The home side again began the second half well and regained the lead on 54 minutes. Ghazghash’s nice pass gave Burzgob an open shot and the burly midfielder struck one home from twenty yards. 2-1 to New Orthanc United. The Hand of Saruman doubled their lead ten minutes later. Grimbrug’s diagonal ball let in Gromrat behind the defense. His cross to Skarluk allowed the Ripper to claim his second of the match as he finished easily into an open net. 3-1 to New Orthanc United and the crowd were sensing a victory. The Armadillos made things interesting with a goal on 77 minutes that was taken well from a free kick. This led to some desperate defending and the Hand of Saruman claimed all three points. Full time: New Orthanc United 3, Mackintosh Armadillos 2.

New Orthanc United: Ishhak the Smasher, Grimbrug the Basher, Shagrukh the Strongclaw (c), Ghazkul the Mucous, Ghazukh the Burner, Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Ghazghash the Sleazy, Gromrat the Stammerer (Thrakbag the Sly 78), Burzgob the Butcher, Skarluk the Ripper, Ishklash the Snooty (Muzwurz the Shy 83) .

Unused substitutes: Baggash the Slobberer, Uglok the Slobberer, Ghashtrash the Destroyer.

For their next match in Champions League qualifying, New Orthanc United travel to Bedistan side Graceville Salamanders, who the Hand of Saruman defeated 2-0 in an earlier encounter.

Queldas Hikari - Ruleth Isio Nesuntel A Seserim

Blues Top Rovers
Impressive in Victory over Opium City
by Leresin Masketel

MISERIAS(NP) - SF Miserias kept hopes alive of moving onto the 2nd qualifying round for the NS Champions League with a 1-0 victory over the Opium City Rovers of Pablicosta today.

The match was quite defensive from both sides, and both keepers played a fantastic match. Kelessin Quertel managed to keep the score a goaless draw. The Blues midfield, led by Midorin Limentel, managed to keep the pressure off of Keninen Nereniel's back four, and the shots that got through were either well off-target or easily handled by Quertel. The one really good chance for the Rovers in the first half was deflected off the post by Quertel, keeping the match scoreless after 45.

The Blues managed a goal in the 61st minute, when Nikean international Kerinen Irisiuene broke through the Rovers back line and chipped a shot over a diving Rovers keeper, making the score 1-0. Further defensive brilliance kept the match at the same score until the final whistle, giving the Blues some much needed three points.

The next match is a crucial showdown with the FC Dragons of the Dragonian Empire, and then a match with a tough Orwell United side. Miserias will likely need at least 4 points if they want to get into fourth place and into the 2nd qualifying round.

John: Well, first of all, it's been officially confirmed that Erik Oldenburg will indeed be out for the entirety of World Cup 10. That probably doesn't bode well for the team, but I guess we'll wait and see.

Kim: And with that story dying down, do we have anything on local sports this time?

John: Of course we do! It's been quite a while since I've had the opportunity to report on the Graceville Salamanders' outings in the Champions League, and I assure you they have not improved since we last met. We hosted Warnocks Wizards' own New Orthanc United.

Kim: And...how'd it go?

John: Not well. The Hand of Saruman handed another loss to the Salamanders, this time by a margin of 2-1. Claire Briscoe with the only goal in the 59th.

Kim: Do you have anything else to say?

John: No, not really.

Hand of Saruman Graceful in Victory over Salamanders

Despite Cup of Harmony Absences, New Orthanc Win 2-1 on Road

From our news services...

Matchday 8, Bedistan–With six of their stars away on national team duty at The Cup of Harmony, New Orthanc United defeated Graceville Salamanders 2-1 in Bedistan. The Hand of Saruman have taken all six points off of the Salamanders, improving their chances of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.

With the national team’s successful run in the cup back home, Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer named the same lineup that battled so bravely against Khandrias United on Matchday 6. Baggash the Slobberer started in goal. Globdul the Sneak came in to play on the left side of midfield. Target man Ghashtrash the Destroyer and striker Skarluk the Ripper were the front pairing. Due to all of the international call ups, United were forced to go with a short substitutes bench, with only four players remaining on the roster.

The Salamanders kicked off the match and began well, testing the United makeshift set-up. Graceville nearly opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Baggash could not deal with a powerful strike from Ashley Calderwood. Thankfully for the visitors, the ball hit the post and went over the line for a goal kick. The Bedistan side continued to pepper the Warnocks Wizards net, but the Slobberer continued to gobble up the chances hurled at him. United managed to pull ahead before halftime. Skarluk’s timely run was fed by Burzgob the Butcher. The Ripper stormed past the defense and struck one past the keeper, the strike ricocheting off of the near post. The sides took to their changing rooms with The Hand of Saruman leading at 1-0. New Orthanc continued their good run of play and took the lead seven minutes in to the second half. Ghaztrak the Deathskull’s lob into the box was met by the head of target man Ghashtrash the Destroyer. The strong striker’s header was too wicked for Graceville keeper Clinton Mehler. The visitors had taken a 2-0 lead. Graceville stormed back in the next few minutes and manager to pull a goal back. Claire Briscoe scored for the home side just before the hour, when she converted a fine pass from midfielder Luis Bean. After the Salamanders had halved the lead, the Warnocks Wizards champions sat on the ball and kept good possession. Ghaztrak and Burzgob in particular had a fine match and guided their side to victory. Thrakbag the Sly and company were pretty stout at the back as well. Manager Akhurk the Slaughterer was pleased in the end with an excellent road win. Full time: Graceville Salamanders 1, New Orthanc United 2.

New Orthanc United: Baggash the Slobberer, Grimbrug the Basher, Thrakbag the Sly (c), Ghazkul the Mucous, Borbag the Tough, Ghaztrak the Deathskull, Globdul the Sneak, Gromrat the Stammerer, Burzgob the Butcher, Ghashtrash the Destroyer, Skarluk the Ripper.

Unused substitutes: Unokh the Abominable, Ufgob the Tough, Uglok the Slobberer, Muzwurz the Shy.

For their next match in Champions League qualifying, New Orthanc United return home to The Tower, where they will host Europa Brittania side Khandrias United. The Hand of Saruman will seek a measure of revenge for the controversial loss suffered at the feet of the twelfth-ranked team earlier in the competition.

The Yellows eliminated
The next round of the CL will be without the Yellows from Karela, who never really had a chance, but never really cared about it. Without having won one single match and being the worst team in all groups, the karelians declare their appearance in the CL as "total success"(quote Eseke Ru, chief of the team). Goalie Haxda'he was a bit more precise: "We did not think, that we would jizz the group and win the trophy, but we had a lot of fun, even if we haven't won anything. I really enjoy travelling to other nations and to play in big stadiums. Even the home games were in Sen-la-Sa~o Promotion and not in Karela."

In their last game in Opium City, the Karela'ny showed, that you never should underestimate them. In the 21st minute, Xki'he archieved the lead after a corner shot by Ra'he. The Rovers equalized in the 50th minute. Karela played aggressive compared to their standards, but their efforts were fruitless. When everyone expected a draw, the Rovers scored again, leaving the Yellows another time with zero points.

Salamanders Bow Out
Draw with Khandrias United not enough

Going into matchday 10, the Graceville Salamanders and Toryo Wolfpack were neck-and-neck, battling it out for the fourth qualifying position in Group 1 with the Salamanders ahead on goal difference.

The team's draw with #12 Khandrias United was quite impressive, with Ashley Calderwood coming up with the equalizer mere seconds before the final whistle, but Toryo Wolfpack's win gave them the final qualifying spot.

The Salamanders will try it again in CL4, in which they along with Yuba United and Hundon FC will participate.

Final score:
Khandrias United 1 (33)
Graceville Salamanders 1 (Calderwood 90)

My Natodrid Lies Under the Table

After nine days of draws and defeats, Natodrid FC of ORD is set to be eliminated from the third Champions League. Although there is a slight chance of qualification - wherby Natodrid wins, Quarua Lakeside and 'Team from PE' loses, it is almost impossible for Natodrid to miraculously go into the next round with 11 other worthy competitors.

Quaras United is predicted to enter the next round.

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini's eyes are on two of their underdogs fighting it out to qualifying for the Champions League. Wurtherington Wanderers have proven that their 4th place finish was not a fluke, and are pushing for 3rd place in the league. Meanwhile, Sashweight F.C.'s thumping of Kung Pao F.C. just pushes them out of the relegation zone. For them, survival is good enough this season. Wurtherington is placed in Group 2, where they will battle it out with some of the bigger names in the region, Khandrias United, The Platypi, and Akbarbad City. If it emerges unscathed, it would have proven itself worthy. Sashweight finds itself in Group 3, where they will meet seasoned clubs such as Timopolis and Tripoli. Considering their league position at the moment, qualification is a bonus.

A glitch in my spreadsheet has caused every single away team to score 0 goals, and I didn't catch it until about 2/3 of the way through the telegramming process. Well, like I said, I didn't notice it at the time, and then midway through I started thinking it was kinda weird, and lo and behold, the spreadsheet was all mucked up. ;)

And it didn't affect the home teams; if it had, I probably would've noticed straight away. ;)

LAKESIDE DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT...

Quarua Lakeside suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Pablo Sergio Ghofers in the Champions League last night, after their fortunate qualification.

The Lakesiders, who only went through owing to the Pure Evil penalty, fell behind on just three minutes from a <player> free-kick, and two <player 2> goals late in the first half sealed the deal against a Lakeside team without injured stars Ekazen Waulino, Rigondo Ramatta and Fayu Owa.

...X-TEEM BOUNCE BACK

Kaza X-Teem scrambled a 2-2 draw in the last match at the Progressair Stadium before its expansion against Byrana FC in what was dubbed 'the warmup' for the KP-Kingsford match to be held at the revamped stadium in WCX qualifying.

Maunkaj Jawelin gave X-Teem the lead on 23 minutes before two goals from <player 3> - the second from the penalty spot after a desperate lunge from Eauam MacKazie - gave Byrana the lead. X-Teem uncharacteristically threw players forward, and it was an Aeuwal Maurto header from a corner in the 88th minute that earned X-Teem a point.

Tripoli FC on three game winning streak

By Bill Christmas

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- Tripoli FC opened up Champions League play in qualifying round 2; and after three matchdays, the club has gone 3-0-0, Jeffry McAuliffe and Ronald Davisson proving themselves valuable assets to the club across the last three matches. Goalkeeper Philip Britt has proven himself equally as important; giving up no goals in the first three matches.

First, Tripoli FC faced Timopolis FC; Jeffry McAuliffe scoring in the 14th and 19th with Britt in goal holding off the shots of Timopolis FC.

The goal of Ronald Davisson in the 63rd against AC Playboys gave Tripoli FC a victory over them on matchday two, this victory followed up with a defeat of Sashweight FC two-nil.

Scoring one of these goals was midfielder and captain Eugene Thomasson off a cross from Davisson in the 47th. Davisson himself would score his own in the 81st minute.

Philip Britt has proven himself a World Cup-worthy goalkeeper; having broken through in Champions League play and giving up no goals in three matches with Tripoli FC.

NEWSFLASH:

Sashweight F.C. lost to a rampant Tripoli F.C., McAuliffe and Davisson scoring absolute stunners to cap the game at 2-0. Things are not looking bright for them as their domestic form continues to slide as well. Meanwhile, Wurtherington Wanderers thumped a travelling Goongerah 3-1. They scored first from a well taken free kick from just outside the box, setting up a spectacular finish at the far post. However, in a matter of minutes, Wurtherington struck back, earning a penalty when their defender wrestled a Wurtherington striker to ground. Ppakkaddumm slid the penalty under the goalkeeper as he dove to the left. Wurtherington gained the lead when a substitute defender drove in a cross from the left, meeting Ppakkaddumm's head and into the back of the net. Ppakkaddumm scored his hat-trick when he chested a hopeful ball forward and drove an overhead kick into the top corner.

*Side note: Should an Errinunderan team win the CL, a playoff should be held between the runners up and the third placed team for the championship, seeing that Errinundera would not be able to retain their title in CL4.

Tripoli beats Sutton
Third win in Tripoli FC Champions League bid

By Bill Christmas

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- Tripoli FC defeated Sutton FC today in a 2-1 thriller that ended with a goal by Erik Thomasson in the 79th minute.

Sutton FC struck first, putting one past Phillip Britt in the 30th minute. Right before the half, striker Ronald Davisson would score the equalizer from outside the goalie's box, the shot curving into the corner of the net.

The match, in the second half was all even till the 79th; which saw both a breakthrough in defense and a relaxed midfield resulting in Thomasson's goal, winning the match for Tripoli FC.

"Man, that's cool an'all. It's always good to get a win; and even better when you've scored the winning goal," said midfielder and captain Erik Thomasson.

Bureaucratic Tribune writer publishes lies and half-truths!

By Dwight Hamilton

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- Some international readers, and many Oglethorpians may recall a past story which, following matchday three, reported a 3-0-0 record. Oglethorpians at home rejoiced.

But something was amiss; cries of injustice and cheating arose from the citizens of Timopolis, rejoicing in their own 3-1 win over Tripoli FC.

"Man, that Bill Christmas -- he was lying!" said one citizen from Timpolis. "He tried to cheat us out of our win by spreading half-truths!"

For Oglethorpia's Tripoli FC did not, in fact, defeat Timopolis FC by a score of 3-1. Rather, it was the other way around.

We apologize to citizens everywehre for the inconvinience.

FC Victorious at Opium City
Byrana FC picked up a win today, putting them at 8 points with two draws, two wins. Renson Davis is proud, though slightly scatterminded and jetlagged from having to travel between coaching Byrana FC and the Kingsford National. The coach was quoted in saying "Who are you? Where am I? Did we win? What does futebol mean?" however he is currently not sleep deprived and ready for the next match versus FC Atlantis in Eudis Byran Park. Tickets can be purchased online at www.byranafc.co.kn.

Christmas Bill flogged lightly

Here in Arms of Nobles, Kingsford, a popular seasonal children's TV character, Christmas Bill, was dragged out of filming a segment for his seasonal TV show, "Christmas at Happy Hollow." The show features Christmas Bill interacting with puppet animal favorites, including Tony the Tiger and Bob the Evisceratomato, all living in the quiet forest home of Happy Hollow. However, the Hollow wasn't happy today, when two Oglethorpian officials grabbed Christmas Bill during filming in front of an audience and proceeded to flog him with Bob the Evisceratomato, removed from the puppeteer's hand seconds later. The audience, filled with many small children, became terrorized. The officials then realized they had the wrong Bill, and dropped a large sum of cash on his twitching bloody body before heading out of the studio and making their way to Oglethorpia to seek out Bill Christmas, and not Christmas Bill. No further has been heard on this story, but Christmas Bill has continued filming from a hospital bed in Arms of Nobles Memorial Hospital, however last week was a rerun, due to Christmas Bill undergoing surgery to remove shards of Bob the Evisceratomato out of his fractured skull.

NEWSFLASH:

Mixed results appear again for Giant Zucchini in the run in to the Champions League. Struggling Sashweight F.C. defeated AC Playboys in Endray-Island with a stunning first half display, where they netted 2 goals within half an hour. AC fought back, scoring early in the second half but never quite looking like scoring the equaliser. Meanwhile, Wurtherington Wanderers fell to a freak goal by Akbarbad City, and the Wanderers face a tough road ahead of them in the Champions League.

Platypi continue to struggle

The second most famous side in Halfassedstates, continue to falter in their attempts to qualify for the opening round of this years Champions league.
After two humiliating thrashings in their opening games, the Platypi saved face slightly last week with a 3-1 win in the third game. Last night however, the Platypi slipped up again, managing only a 2-2 draw with the Mackintosh Armadillos. Joe King headed the Platypi in front, before two quick Armadillo strikes looked to have consigned the Halfassed side to defeat. However, with just 8 minutes left, Joe Soap struck a wonderful free kick, to share the points.
The result leaves The Platypi with only 4 out of a possible 12 points and leaves qualification looking unlikely.

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini's hopes for Champions League glory have been stopped short by some slack defending by Champions League hopefuls Sashweight and Wurtherington. Sashweight F.C. were looking for a home win against Timopolis F.C., but instead got thrashed 4 goals to none. Meanwhile, Wurtherington Wanderers could not get a steady momentum going and lost by a goal to the Platypi. The possibility that none of the Zucchini hopefuls can join Marauding and Prehistoric is very real indeed.

From Progressa TeleNews, with Rartee Busina and Ewil Lunterat
http://members.fortunecity.com/timbrenttvmocks/prog2.jpg

EL: ...now over to Rartee with the sport.
RB: Thanks Ewil. It's been another eventful day in the Champions League but not one to remember for Kaza X-Teem, beaten 3-1 by Byrana. It is their fourth defeat in six games and virtually eliminates them from the competition. [Talon's third goal is shown] George Talon's hat-trick, the pick of which was this curling free-kick that easily beat Eaka Palera, did the job after X-Teem took the lead on 13 minutes courtesy of Akleo Fermazit. The X-Teem defence, so rock-solid in national football, has been destroyed in the Champions League, conceding 16 goals in six games.

Meanwhile in Pablicosta, Quarua Lakeside came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Pablo Sergio Ghofers, who presently top the table. Two goals in six minutes from Fayu Owa and Ekazen Waulino earned the Lakesiders a surprise point that leaves them securely in the middle of the group, though some way behind Ghofers and Susan City.

ORD Revenge Taken, Chisai'nihon Safe at Third

Revenge has finally been done when Chisai'nihon FC trounced Quarua Lakeside 2-1. It was a match the all Dottians were waiting for as Quarua Lakeside, the club that was in the same group as Natodrid FC in the first qualifier rounds and contributed to the elimination if Natodrid, didn't cut it during the match. It was Hashiei that broke the tie which sent Chisai'nihon up the ladder and safely into third place at the halfway point of the qualifiers.

OOC: The table for group 1 is incorrect. New Orthanc United have won two matches. Also, the Goal Differential is incorrect for Mount Ellery and New Orthanc.

It should read:

Message to all other teams: check back the scores of the second qualifiers and get the tables fixed up.

All right! I managed to get something wrong for every single team in group 4! Go me! :P Egad, and to think I can do well in trigonometry when I can't even do simple adding and subtracting... :|

Yeah, everyone please check the tables, and also remind me never to attempt to do them again while listening to the radio. ;)

Matchday 9 results will go out tomorrow, so I'll give you all an extra day to RP matchday 8 and help me fix any grossly incorrect tables.

EDIT: Groups 4 and 1 updated in my records.

From Progressa TeleNews, with Rartee Busina and Ewil Lunterat

http://members.fortunecity.com/timbrenttvmocks/prog2.jpg

EL: ...now over to Rartee with the sport.
RB: Thanks Ewil. It's been a sensational day for Progressan clubs in the Champions League with Quarua Lakeside defeating Susan City 3-1 courtesy of a heroic Faiwe Irafma hat trick. It is Susan City's first defeat in the competition so far, and gives the Lakesiders a realistic hope of qualification, something that seemed beyond them not so long ago.

There's also mathematical hope for Kaza X-Teem after their 2-0 win in Atlantis, but the side is really now playing for pride and a better ranking. Maunkaj Jawelin and Srittik Butreal scored two unanswered goals within five minutes late in the first half to seal the match.

Some further table-related investigations in preparation of sending out tonight's results...

New Orthanc United have won two matches.

Not what I'm showing, at least for matchdays 1-7:

New Orthanc United 0 Lovefest 1
Ilúvenis FC 1 New Orthanc United 1
New Orthanc United 0 Mount Ellery 1
Toryo Wolfpack 1 New Orthanc United 0
New Orthanc United 4 City Centre FC 0
Lovefest 3 New Orthanc United 1
New Orthanc United 1 Ilúvenis FC 2

Only on matchday 8 did New Orthanc receive its second win, and that wasn't covered in the table.

Also, the Goal Differential is incorrect for Mount Ellery and New Orthanc.

New Orthanc is 7-9, as I cited, not 9-7. Also, Mount Ellery is in fact 10-10, not 10-12:

Toryo Wolfpack 2 Mount Ellery 1
Mount Ellery 1 City Centre FC 1
New Orthanc United 0 Mount Ellery 1
Ilúvenis FC 4 Mount Ellery 2
Mount Ellery 4 Lovefest 1
Mount Ellery 1 Toryo Wolfpack 1
City Centre FC 1 Mount Ellery 0

Thus, my original Group 1 table is correct in this case.

(Possibly) more to come...

SUSAN CITY QUALIFY

Susan City have Qualified for the final 32 with a stunning 3-1 win over Chisai’nihon FC. Parkinson that got two goals, 1 directly from a beautiful free-kick, another on the stroke of half-time by getting the vital touch from a corner. Chisai’nihon FC fought back in the second half however with <player 9> finding the back of the net. But Susan City made the win concrete with a long range chip over the goalie leaving the tables like this:

Platypi slip-up in penultimate game.

Going into their match against the Macintosh Armidillos on the back of successive wins, the Platypi team knew that a win would secure qualification into the Champions League for the third time in succession.

Unfortunatly it was not to be. A 3-2 defeat on their opponents turf means that the Halfassed representatives need to win their last game by a significant margin to try and sneak qualification on goal difference.

The Akbarbad City side seem likly to take the top spot in the group. After that, it is anyones guess who will grab the other place. The platypi are now behind the Armidillos on GD, with Goongerah also possibly on 14pts. (the result of their matchday 9 game is unknown at time of going to press)

With the possiblity of 3 sides being level on points going into the final game, the excitment that some sceptics had suggested would be lacking in a long league style qualification round is really there for all to see.

Lets see how the final set of games develops!!!

Weegies Star Sport Report

Who, really, would have thought it? The Armadillos, a far from respected team in a far from respected league, thought to be by many football analysts to be languishing out of international club football by the end of the First Qualifying Round of the Champions League, are just above number 21 seeds the Platypi, and at the last checking of the tables, were at least assured of a top 3 spot going into the final game of the Second Qualifying Round.

It's all very close, though, the Armadillos equal on points to the Halfassedstates side, and possibly Goongerah as well. (current score unknown as of yet.)

"It's an exciting development in our club football" said WFA official Kristine Kozicki. "Especially since on the international stage, with World Cup X, the international team are seemingly all-conquering, only losing to the 6th seeds. These things combined can surely show that The Weegies are a force in international football. And looking at the TV revenues and ticket sales for even the Qualifying rounds, it's going to benefit the Weegie economy greatly if they qualify for the Champions League. Best of luck to the Armadillos!"

Risk of Elimination Nears after Loss

After the 1-3 loss against Susan City, Chisai'nihon FC now risks elimination. With only 2 points seperating Chisai'nihon FC and Quarua Lakeside, the only two teams whose fates are still unknown, a Quarua lakeside win will send Chisai'nihon towards the elimination door.

However, a FC Dragon win against Quarua Lakeside will give Chisain'nihon FC the final chance for qualification when they go against Quarua Lakeside themselves to see who qualifies.

Chisai'nihon FC hopes that FC Dragons win, which is highly unlikely, so that a final showdown can be done between the two sides.

Again, the top three teams in each group will move on, as will the best fourth-place team. Currently, the group that is most likely to have its 4th-place team move on is Group 2:

Possible point range for 4th place team:
Group 1: 13-16
Group 2: 14-17
Group 3: 11-14
Group 4: 12-15
Group 5: 13-16

And so we go into the final matches. I'm generating them now, and you can expect TGs within the next half hour.

NEWSFLASH:

Sashweight F.C. have qualified for a place in the group stage of the Champions League despite floundering domestically. Meanwhile, the favourites at the start of qualifying, Wurtherington Wanderers, have officially been eliminated. Fortunately, they are in with a good chance of qualifying again thanks to a long string of wins domestically. Sashweight would need to take this good opportunity to find any success this season.

Final Showdown with Quarua, Qualification Follows

Quarua Lakeside has again determined the fate of a One Red Dot team, and this time, its for the good. The draw with FC Dragons caused Quarua Lakeside to par with Chisai'nihon FC in terms of points attained. Qualification was still uncertain for the two teams as the final match between them could ascertain who would proceed.

It was Chisai'nihon FC that claimed victory after an amazing 4-0 win.

Chisai'nihon FC now lies in Group E with champions Alan City from The Belmore Family and since only two teams can proceed to the next round, it will be a hard fight between Chisai'nihon FC, Whogivesa City and Tripoli FC.

NEWSFLASH:

The Giant Zucchini Football Association was in outrage as the groups were announced. In Group C, league strugglers Sashweight will have to face off with giants Prehistoric F.C. "Our best hope is only 1 of our teams qualifying from this group, especially with the Kaze X-Teem and the Black-and-Red Army in the group as well. Meanwhile, the dominant Marauding F.C. finds itself with familiar names Ellery Camp, Akbarbad City and Goongerah. Chairman Baart Aarnd, "This is a tough group, but I am sure we will qualify for the next stage, especially with Alan Belmore in our squad, who is scoring goals for us in the league as well."

Halfassed trio kept apart in CL draw.

The three sides representing Halfassed in this years CL have been given very different tasks to progress to the second round.
Last years HFL runners-up and newbies to the CL, Whogivesa City were the first Halfassed side out of the hat. As soon as the next team was drawn, they probably wished they weren't. #1 ranked side Alan City (TBF) were next to appear, and while the other two teams in the group, Chisai'nihon (ORD) and Tripoli FC (Ogle) are also unranked, the presence of such a heavyweight in the competition in the group probably means that Whogivesa City are playing for the 2nd qualifying spot. Captain Bob Francis said simply, " It's going to be one h*ll of a challenge!"

The Cenataurs came out of the draw in the next group. The #3 side were joined by #6 Athletics East (Tim), and unranked Oglethorpia City (Ogle) and Dorminian Rovers (TBF). Cenataurs chairman Coinun Itun said, "Its a good draw for us. Athletics East have proved themselves in the past, and any teams from either TBF or Olgethorpia are usually strong."

The Platypi, who produced a stirling 4-1 win in the final qualifying game to assure their place in the first round proper were rewarded with possibly the most difficult group of all. Joining the #21 side will be #8 ranked FC Atlantis (EB), #11 Opium City Rovers (Pab) and #22 Artanis Utd (Spaam).
Injured Platypi striker, George Doors was thrilled with the draw, "Its what we're here for, to take on the best teams - every team in the group has been here before and know what its about - it should be great for the spectators." When asked if he would be back in time for the first game himself, Doors merely said, " I would like to be, it'll depend on what the doctors think after a couple of training sessions"

Dorminian Should have a ranking.

Alan City delight after group draw, not so great for Susan and Dorminian

Alan City F.C. have rejoiced after hearing they will face Whogivesa City from Halfassedstates Chisai’nihon FC from One Red Dot and Tripoli FC from Oglethorpia meaning they will face no ranked teams.

Susan City however have got last years 3rd placers Orean United and will have a tough time qualifying.

The hardest group for a Belmorian team however is in group Dorminian Rovers who have got both The Cenataurs ranked 3rd from Halfassedstates and Athletics East ranked 6th from Timway.

Iaus de Vere, Wolfpack Advance

After barely clinching the first qualifying advance and managing a second place qualification in group one of second qualifying, John Iaus de Vere's Wolfpack advance once more into group stages. The Wolfpack will be the only Kingsford side remaining in Champions League after an undesirable finish for Renson Davis's Byrana FC, knocking them to fifth in the highest point average group. The Wolfpack now heads to Westin Stadium in Graceville, where they've played once before against the Salamanders in the first qualifying round for their three matches in group stages.

"I think we'll do well. We start strong, it's finishing up a run that gets us. We barely got through and ended up losing the last three games of the Qualifying round two, however in both rounds we've won a large number of games at the beginning. With only three matchdays, I feel that we can pull an undefeated streak." comments coach John Iaus de Vere.

Group B is as follows:
Rooty Break [Errinundera]
Susan City [The Belmore Family]
Orean United [Liverpool England]
Toryo Wolfpack [Kingsford]

The Wolfpack will opean against Orean, then play Susan City, finishing with Rooty Break. The entire time, they will be wearing their home jerseys, which have just been recently been released... and they're throwbacks.

Three Liga Sepak Bola sides are in the Champions' League. A run-down on their first match:

In Group A, unranked Rubber Tappers (number two finishers in the Liga) fell 3-2 to Schimpol Bulldogs from Liverpool England. The Tappers are already feeling the loss of talent to international clubs. Also in the group are number 2 seeds McKillops Bridge from Errinundera and Pablo Sergio Ghofers from Pablicosta. Analysts give the Tappers little chance to advance in this tough group.

Tanah Burung's best hope is its Liga champion Black-and-Red Army, which holds down a number 17 world ranking under the leadership of Errinundrian star oreadest. That's even truer after Army's 1-0 win over the most highly-regarded team in the group, ninth-seeded Prehistoric FC from Giant Zucchini. The second Zucchini entrant, Sashweight FC, is not given much chance to advance. Kaza X-teem rounds out the group.

In Group H, Lovefest continued its dominance of City Centre FC, another Liverpudlian English club, adding a 2-0 win to its record against City Centre, which it also faced in the previous round. Lovefest got a lucky draw in this weak group, where its number 29 world rank is better than any of its competitors. The only other ranked side is number 31 Mohammeden Sporting from Akbarland. Timopolis FC is the other team in play here.

NEWSFLASH:

The Kaze X-Teem showed Sashweight F.C. who the real boss was as they thumped the strugglers with 2 goals. Just to show that Group C was not meant for Giant Zucchini, experienced Prehistoric F.C. fell to a freak deflection, leaving Oog stranded. Tanah Burung's Black-and-Red Army finished off with the points with that solitary goal, as Prehistoric failed to find the equaliser. Things looked brighter in Group D, as Urk rounded off a good Marauding move, tapping in after Alan Belmore drew the keeper off his line and slipped it into the path of the Giant Zucchini maestro. Despite creating most of the chances in the match, Marauding failed to find another against the seventh seeded Ellery Camp, but finished with all 3 points.

Delight all round with two-goal wonders for all TBF teams

Alan City, Dorminian Rovers and Susan City have all been victorius in their opening matches of the Champions League.

Susan City began the TBF triumph with a 2-1 win over Rooty Beak from Errinundera after two last minute stunners, from Laurence Wellden, one from the penelty spot and one stunner that chipped the goalie from behind the halfway line.

Alan City were also looking good with a simple 2-0 win over Halfassed champs Whogivsa City, it was Paul Dussis who scored them both, one in the first half when he bustled his way into the penlty box and blasted the ball into the back of the net. His second came after 70 minutes when the keeper couldn't hold onto a flying shot by Richard Harreros-Symons which Dussis just had to tap into the back of the net.

And finally, League Champs, Dorminian Rovers had a simple 2-0 win over Oglethorpia City after Aiden Belmore connected with a header from a corner and Mike Parker blasted a 30-yard-Stunner into the back of the net leaving parties all round for TBF teams.

Wolfpack emerge 4-2 over Susan City

John Iaus de Vere's Toryo Wolfpack was victorious against the club Susan City from the Belmore Family. We don't know how the goals were scored. We first assumed Alan Belmore scored all the goals, including the four against his team, but then we realized that there are no more Alan Belmores in the world anymore, and since we didn't watch the game, we can't really say.

Of all the Alan Belmores captured, one remained, and scored a brace against Akbarbad City, as Marauding F.C. tore through their defences time and time again in a thrilling Champions League match. Urk started off the scoring with a smashing ball from just outside the penalty area which left the keeper no chance. Alan Belmore headed in a Kerrnigit corner, putting Marauding 2 goals up. Alan Belmore then finished things off with a glorious free kick from wide left which swerved into the far post, hitting the post before rebounding into the net. Meanwhile, in the Giant Zucchini Champions League derby clash, Phoot scored a spectacular hat-trick in the first half, before Sashweight pulled one back through a set piece and a cunning deflection.

Artanis United On Track

Artanis United is still on track, despite not having some of its star
players, who are part of the World Cup Qualifying squad. Tying 3-all
with Opium City, and then defeating The Platypi 2-1, they have
ensured that they are at least 2nd in their group (depending on the
result of the Opium City Rovers vs FC Atlantis match). In any case,
Artanis must beat Atlantis to progress, and this will prove to be the
match of the group.

The Platypi crash out.

A second successive loss in the group stage has sent the Halfassed side out of the competition a game early. George Doors had hoped to return in this game, put pulled up in the warm up with a recurrance of his hamstring problem, and looks unlikely to play any part in the event this year. Without their main striker, the Halfassed side never managed to put enough pressure on the opposition and lost 2-1

Halfassed two other sides in the competition, The Cenataurs and Whogivesa City both overcame opening day defeats to secure 2-1 wins and leave themselves with final day showdowns and hoping for quarter-final spots.

Cenataurs and Whogivesa City follow Platypi after 1-1 draws.
With the Platypi side already out of the running, Halfassed's last two representatives in this years CL both knew only a win would be enough to secure progress to the next phase of the competition. As it was, two goals in 2 minutes in the two games saw both sides conceed the goals that sealed their fates.
The results mean both sides fail to qualify on Goal Difference.

In the other game involving a Halfassed side, the Platypi won 3-2

NEWSFLASH:

Marauding F.C. makes it into the quarter finals after a 3-1 win over Tripoli F.C. in the James Parker National Stadium, Midway. Scoring started immediately at the start of the match, when a Tripoli cross was deflected by Xam, leaving Plaat stranded. Marauding took a good half an hour to recover from that shock. However, an equaliser was bound to arrive, and arrive it did. Urk regained possession in midfield and slotted a neat pass to Belmore, who flicked it over his head and volleyed it into the top corner, leaving the Tripoli keeper no chance. After the break, the deadlock was broken. A Tripoli corner was punched away by Plaat to Urk just behind the centre circle. Spotting the keeper off his line, Urk chipped the ball over the helpless keeper from just inside the circle, giving Marauding the lead. The agitated Tripoli continued to press, but ended up conceding a free kick just 2 minutes from time. Kerrnigit drove in the free kick to secure a win that puts Marauding into the quarter-finals.

Delight all round for TBF

Both Alan City and Dorminian Rovers have made it to the lofty hights of the quarter finals. For Alan City it was Paul Dussis who gave them a great 3-2 win over Errinundurra's Ellery Camp with a dignified hatrick.

But the most anticipated of the CL second rounds was Dorminian Rovers Vs Black-and-Red-Army of Tanah Burung, a repeat of last year where Black and Red progressed into the quarter finals. And ity looked like they were going to this time when B&R scored an early goal, a lead which they carried up untill 85 minutes when JP Belmore blasted home a penelty to take the match into extra time. The first half of ectra time was pretty boring until after 109 minutes JP Belmore crossed the ball through to Tariq who took Dorminian Rovers through to the quarter-finals with a superb header.

Artanis United were shock winners last night as they defeated Orean 2-1, thanks to newcomer Nala Eromleb. Nala scored two goals after two of Orean's players were sent off in a dubious refereeing decision, which pushed Artanis through to the next round. Artanis are not expected to go through, especially as there are no more national players left after they were killed by the Evisceratomatoes.

NEWSFLASH:

An Alan Belmore hat-trick sealed a win for Marauding F.C. in the quarterfinals against Dorminian Rovers, familiar with Belmore during his time in Alan City, another quarterfinalist. For once, Urk did not get on the scoresheet, but instead Kerrnigit, who ended off scoring with a brilliantly taken free kick. The first goal came in 36 minutes, when Belmore outfoxed his defender and made a bee-line for goal, before sliding the ball under the legs of the unrushing keeper. His second came seconds after the restart. After stopping the ball with his right foot with his back facing the goal, he pushed the ball behind his standing left foot before spectacularly spinning and smashing the ball into the top corner. His third came when Urk threaded a magnificantly weighted pass straight into the stride of Belmore who poked it into the right bottom corner. The final goal came in the 79th minute, when Urk made a weaving run down the centre of the pitch. After breaking through the entire Dorminian defence, the Dorminian keeper dashed out of his area and slid in on Urk to clear the ball. The keeper earned himself a yellow card for that challenge and Kerrnigit stood over the ball preparing for his shot. Kerrnigit proceeded to glide the ball under the jumping wall and under the legs of the distraught keeper for Marauding's final goal.

Alan Belmore becomes hate figure in dorminia after devestating hat-trick

Alan Belmore has been forbidden to enter into the county of Dorminia when he brutaly knocked out Dorminian Rovers from the Champions League. This is what the Dorminian Fans had to say "He's a Belmorian, I will never go to a match he is playing in. He's a traitor. I hope he gets charged with treason." When told that TBF does not have a monarchy so treason can not be a crime he replied "Well shoot the bas**** anyway."

In other news Alan City had only their 3rd defeat in 3 Champions Leagues when they lost 3-1 to Kaza X-Teem.

(front page with colour picture of Maunkaj Jawelin heading home the third goal in the Stadium of the South, Dennis)

Forget the World Cup... because
THIS IS FOOTBALL HEAVEN

Kaza X-Teem produced the finest result in Progressan football history last night with a famous 3-1 defeat of Belmorian legends Alan City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Alan City are renowned as the team built around Alan Belmore, a hate figure in every country whose side he has defeated. But the Progressans have an Indian sign over him and Belmore generally. The national side took four points from six - and kept two clean sheets - from Belmore Family in World Cup 9 qualification, the only team in known history not to have conceded a goal to Alan Belmore having played against him. Now, with Alan Belmore and his innumerable clones mostly exterminated in the War on Errorism, Alan City are a weakened force - but still entered the Stadium of the South as warm favourites.

Within three minutes, all that evaporated. Jaruna Jaff, still dangerous at 35 despite his lack of pace, slipped a slide-rule through ball inside him to Akleo Fermazit, who danced past the Alan City defence before thumping home from fifteen yards.

The Alan City response was immediate. There may be no Alan Belmore in Alan City anymore, but there is a World Cup winner in Paul Dussis, and it was he who forced Eaka Palera into a spectacular diving save on six minutes from a free kick. Eventually, after several good chances, Dussis was bought down by Lartaz Frilltanpa in the penalty area while shaping to shoot, and coolly slotted the penalty beyond Palera.

The rest of the first half was all Alan City, but somehow there was no way through. Palera made several great saves, Frilltanpa and Eauam MacKazie vital tackles, and then in the second minute of injury time MacKazie's crunching - but legal - tackle on Dussis knocked the ball loose to Aeuwal Maurto, who thumped the ball 60 yards to Maunkaj Jawelin. The man-mountain flicked the ball on with his head to Fermazit, who chipped the goalkeeper to give X-Teem their shock lead back.

The second half passed in a blur of counter-attacking football, both sides absorbing each other's pressure before launching their own unsuccessful rapid-fire attacks. Ultimately, it was Fuart Ippizek's dashing runs that created the best openings for X-Teem, and on 87 minutes - with most of the Alan City side pushing forward for the equaliser - he dashed past what was left of the defence before delivering a cross that found Jawelin's head, which deflected it off the inside of the post and into the back of the net. A historic win was assured.

As the final whistle blew, several hundred X-Teem fans launched a mini pitch invasion in celebration, while Alan City fans sobbed into their replica shirts in agony. X-Teem are now just two games away from a sensational Champions League victory.

In a close match played at Westin Stadium, Lovefest continued their charmed ruin through the third Champion's League, knocking off Artanis United by a 2-1 score. Lovefest's run is especially suprising with the transfer of team captain Rosa Bibere, which leaves the team playing mostly with semi-professionals (the only national team player remaining is Karena Gelap, a reserve midfielder).

NEWSFLASH:

After Urk smashed home the silver goal, there was not a doubt in the world that Zucchini history has been made. Marauding F.C. has made it into the Champions League final. It is the first Giant Zucchini club that has made it this far, and they will be looking to capture the ultimate prize in club football. Little did they know that, of all the clubs they will have to battle with in the final, they will have to do battle with old foes FC Atlantis. FC Atlantis has not gotten over the sale of Andrew Zurich to Marauding, and will be looking for revenge against the Zurich of the new era, Alan Belmore. It will be a tough fight, but the twin powers of Urk and Belmore may just prove to strong for the new breed of FC Atlantis.

From the Kangaroo:

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END

Kaza X-Teem almost inevitably suffered defeat against an all-conquering FC Atlantis team in an intriguing and dramatic, if not genuinely thrilling, tactical battle of defending and counter-attacking in the Setting Sun Field.

The Progressan side almost took a shock lead on eight minutes when Srittik Butreal darted diagonally to the left before crossing in to Maunkaj Jawelin, whose header was powerful but right at the goalkeeper for whom saving the ball was more a matter of bravery and sticky gloves than skill.

Atlantis, featuring several World Cup winners, gradually took control of the game from that point, but Eaka Palera proved almost unbeatable, making a succession of dramatic saves. Eventually, he was beaten on 36 minutes by a virtual tap-in after Eauam MacKazie's seemingly well-timed slide tackle was rapidly captured by <player>, whose low cross fell right to <player 2> four yards in front of an open goal, Palera having been left stranded at the near post.

In the second half, both goalkeepers appeared positively unbeatable; Palera tipped a fierce 30-yard free-kick against the bar and somehow scrambled to the opposite post to save a header from the rebound; Jawelin had no less than four headers saved; Akleo Fermazit had a curling 20-yard low drive tipped against the post in the 86th minute; and Aeuwal Maurto, rushing out from defence in the last minute of the match, had a header stunningly saved from a corner. The final score of 1-0 to the Atlantians was perhaps fair, but to be honest both sides deserved clean sheets, and proved that a strong defence is probably the greatest strength a team can have.

Champions League GRAND FINAL:
Marauding F.C. vs FC Atlantis:
Post Match Report:

Kerrnigit scored a goal of sheer brilliance as Marauding F.C. ended their season by winning their first Champions League. The Giant Zucchini giants had wrestled the early initiative when Urk scored after nine minutes, but FC Atlantis quickly bounced back with an equaliser. Marauding dominated an unspectacular second half in which Atlantis failed to create any meaningful chances until the very end. In the seventh minute of injury time Marauding's goalkeeper Plaat made three spectactular saves to prevent Atlantis from taking the win. However, the momentum swung decisively with Kerrnigit's goal in extra time.

Urk reacted fastest to an angled long throw from close to the half-way line by Kerrnigit and placed the ball across the Atlantis keeper. Atlantis had failed to track Urk's run and the keeper’s attempt to save the Marauding striker's moderately struck shot was extremely poor.

Initially Atlantis had appeared overawed by both the occasion and the stature of their opponents. But they hauled themselves back into the contest. They whipped in a free kick from the left-hand side and Atlantis rose above the Marauding defence to head the ball past goalkeeper Plaat.

The game then entered a scrappy phase - characterised by sloppy play and a seeming willingness to squander possession.

Marauding began the second half confidently, with Urk and Kerrnigit in particular crafting openings with fluid passing and movement. But Wush - sluggish throughout - was substituted for Zonk after 61 minutes. Belmore shot wide after 81 minutes for Marauding while Atlantis shot over the bar twice. But as the match wore on Atlantis committed more men forward and came close to scoring.

The referee played seven minutes of injury time and Atlantis created several good chances. Marauding goalkeeper Plaat twice denied Atlantis with brilliant last-gasp saves.

8 minutes into extra time, Marauding captured the win thanks to a stunning goal from Kerrnigit. Poom played a ball down the left, which Belmore hooked into the penalty area on the half-volley. Kerrnigit - absent throughout most of the half - smashed the ball home from the edge of the area with a sumptuous left-foot volley of exquisite timing and technique.

In a franctic finale the Atlantis keeper also went close as he pushed upfield and narrowly missed with a header.

Kerrnigit had these parting words, “I'm very happy and I dedicate this win to the fans.”

Final score:

Marauding F.C. - 2
Urk (9), Kerrnigit (98}

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER AGAIN

Kaza X-Teem secured a glorious win one game too late with a 3-0 defeat of Lovefest in the third place playoff in Holmes Stadium.

The Tanah Burung side, who knocked X-Teem out of CL2, were clearly fatigued by their extra-time defeat to Marauding FC, and conceded a goal within three minutes, Aeuwal Maurto heading home from a corner.

X-Teem were too good for Lovefest throughout; nobody had the pace to test the aging limbs of Eauam MacKazie, whose fine positional play was easily enough to shut out most attacks. Akleo Fermazit doubled the lead on 35 minutes when his own pace was too much for the Lovefest defence, opening up a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper won by virtue of a cheeky chip. Fittingly, it was man-mountain striker Maunkaj Jawelin who completed the rout from a header in the 63rd minute after Fermazit had been forced wide after another scintillating run.
