I'm pleased to invite all frequenters of the General forum to NationStates General, a new IRC channel designed specifically with the NS General poster in mind. Discuss whatever you want without the rigid opping of #nationstates!

How to Access:

1. Download an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) program. mIRC is the preferred program for PC users, but there are programs for just about any type of computer. A Yahoo! search for IRC programs should yield positive results for your particular system.

2. Connect to server "irc.esper.net (6667)".

3. Join the channel "#nationstates_general" (without quotation marks).

SAB!Download Mozilla, but only 1.4; they messed up on 1.5. Mozilla comes with a IRC client, ChatZilla. to get on to the irc network, type /attach irc.esper.net and to get on nationstates_general type /join #nationstates_general

It's yet another service that uses the Internet.

Internet Relay Chat. Think of it as MSN or Yahoo Chat, but different. Each server holds a certain number of channels (chat rooms) that you can join. Sometimes the same channels are available on many different servers in a network, like DALnet or EFnet. Load yourself up a copy of mIRC, or some other IRC client, and have fun. :wink:

CGFirewall. You can keep that from happening, by either disabling the firewall (shutting it down) or getting something like ZoneAlarm. It doesn't block it unless you tell it to.

Well I've been using #NationStates_General and already I've got two people after my Blood :shock:

Well, to make life easier for some people I set up an IRC client which will auto-connect to the most used rooms on various servers.

Click here (http://www.vinari.co.uk/ns/irc/chat.php), fill out the little form, and then select EsperNET for the #nationstates_general server and connect, and voila, you are on IRC. ;)

Just a note, the Vinari IRC rooms don't have many (read: only has 2) users, so remember to click the radio button next to EsperNET before you connect...

What's this for.

"This" is a thread advertising the presence of the #nationstates_general IRC channel on the Espernet chat network. To use IRC, you need an IRC client. www.mirc.org should contain links to a suitable download.

Once you've got it, follow the instructions in the mIRC help files to connect to the Espernet network. That's irc.esper.net if you're unsure or need to add it manually. Once that's done, type /join #nationstates_general to connect to the channel. If the channel is empty, then you've probably got the wrong network, or you've typed the channel name in wrong.

As far as I know, the rest of this thread already contains detailed instructions on how to connect, but if you're stuck, please don't hesitate to say so. I look forward to seeing you there.

when does this become more realistic and gives us pix or some kinda pic of our town and so it changes when we do things and stuff. when can we attack other nations. when can we gain land. ect.

Myself and CrystalDragon have created two bots which operate in several NationStates related channels on Espernet. One of the features in my own bot is an automated quiz.

At the moment, the amount of questions available in the trivia database is severely limited, So I've created a script which allows people to submit questions for inclusion in the database.

I'd appreciate it very much if as many of you as possible went here (http://www.vinari.co.uk/ns/irc/susan/addquestion.php) and added questions (http://www.vinari.co.uk/ns/irc/susan/addquestion.php) to the database.

I'll also be running the trivia bot every saturday at 20:00 GMT in #Nationstates_quiz, so if you wish to take part, connect to Espernet and join this channel. The bot can be found online as either Susan_Sto-Helit or sIRCB.

The owner has several different types of VERIFIED and working chat modules to use, including CGI:IRC, pjIRC, mIRC, and Covu.

CGI:IRC and Covu both work despite chat blockers, and he can set any room to work on multiple ports.

You know... dalnet is pretty groovy... more people on there than the other server thingy. (I guess I'm kinda partial since I've been on DALnet on mIRC for 4+ years now). I'll hang out in #nationstates in case anyone's interested. Oh, and if nobody comes, well, I'll have a full bar at my leisure!
