hmmm....it appears as though Athletics East's ranking is a smiley face. i guess Timway's domestic champion is just so good that there is no way to express this fact numerically. but if anyone finds a way, please let me know what they're rank is. thank you.

Champions' League action began, strangely enough, with a match between the top two teams in the Tanah Burung football league, both drawn into Group H. In domestic play, these two sides were at 3 wins apiece. Army had topped the League tables led by Erinnundrian star oreadest and coach Mau Kiri Rai, the people's representative for territorial defence and sports. "I just realized that our military, being defensive only, was not likely to ever fight a war," Mau Kiri Rai said. "So we've taken the best guerrilla fighters and applied their skills to the football field. And having oreadest agree to take on an honourary commission was a lucky stroke for a new team like Army."

oreadest sported the same hairstyle he wore in domestic play: spiked up, with alternating red and black triangles of hair. But it is no longer all about the hair: "oreadest has blossomed into one of the most dangerous and creative footballers in the world, in my opinion," said Rosa Bibere, captain of the Lovefest squad, who has also been named to captain Tanah Burung in the next World Cup.

These two teams seemed to know each other far too well. Each probed, but neither defence made any mistakes, and each was able to turn away the other side's forwards. A frenetic Lovefest crowd turned ther country's only indoor stadium into a zoo of noise, but their team was unable to give them a goal.

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini got off to a relatively acceptable start, capturing 2 points from 2 matches. Dankeschoen F.C., the Champions League new boys, put in a late equaliser from Machterstrassefurtermorgannachttunggutsprechenbuchlungweighetvolkshvargenshtickshnoff, cancelling off Murphy's spectacular strike for The Platypi. Meanwhile, this season's runner-up Prehistoric F.C. held 10th seed Ellery Camp to a 0-0 draw, with Giant Zucchini international Oog in inspiring form, saving impossible shots with a touch of his gloves. We now await the results of the Premiership title holders Marauding F.C., as they take on 3rd seed Orean United away.

Final scores:

Dankeshoen F.C. (Giant Zucchini) - 1
The Platypi (Halfassedstates) - 1

Ellery Camp (Errinundera) (10) - 0
Prehistoric F.C. (Giant Zucchini) - 0

Akbarbad City got their campaign underway with a lacklustre 0-0 draw at home to Timopolis F.C. The team managed to dominate the whole game but just could not find the goal that would have given them the victory. Skilled young winger Hamid Kabir was declared man of the match for troubling the Timopolis defense throughout.
Kaze Progressa
30-08-2003, 08:59
Kaze Progressa's Champions League debutants performed adequately. In front of a full house at the 15,000-seater Lakeside Arena, Quarua Lakeside took the lead against Artanis United on seven minutes through Rareq Marjan - thanks to a 25-yard screamer into the roof of the net - but the defensive mistakes that saw them lose the domestic title race came back to haunt them on the international stage, conceding a sloppy goal just three minutes later. The crowd sensed a goal-fest was coming, but the early goals merely shook the defenders on both sides to life, and it was more of a tackle-fest. Final score: Quarua Lakeside 1, Artanis United 1.

Much the same for Kaza XTeem's Champions League debut, away to Opium City Rovers, the highest-ranked side in the group - but without the early goals. Opium City Rovers had no answer to Kaza XTeem's defensive tactics - the team's defense was almost impregnable in domestic competition last season - and the visitors couldn't do the business at the other end either, though in the last minute they nearly grabbed a winner after winning three consecutive corners, a header from the third looking goalbound until it deflected off another attacker and just over the bar. Final score: Opium City Rovers 0, Kaza XTeem 0.

FROM SPOUTH'S MOUTH

... Great to see the national side start their World Cup 7 campaign with a win in Europa Brittania. regnanse defied his critics with a superb game in goal. I still reckon he's no good...

... In the NationStates Champions League Ellery Camp drew nil all with Giant Zucchini's Prehistoric F.C. Superstar player, antarcticad, was useless. Now that his hair has fallen out, you'd think he could concentrate on his game. Perhaps the battery fluid has leached into his brain and started dissolving it. Who'd notice the difference, anyway? Former Findabaya exchange player codith had a great game, as did the Prehistoric Oog...

... Why can't the Giant Zucchini players have normal names like the Errinundrians?...

... Here's the 1st division table at the halfway mark of the season.

...Will McKillops Bridge finally shake off their bridesmaid's tag and win the championship? They had better. After spending a fortune recruiting and going into receivership they need to succeed to keep their creditors at bay...

... Rooty Break is the surprise of the season. They are the only side challenging MKB. I reckon they'll crash before the season is out...

...The big joke is Ellery Camp. The benchmark team for as long as anyone remembers is in danger of relegation. Who'd have imagined that back in the glory days when oreadest was still playing for them? Couldn't happen to a nicer team. Come on, antarcticad, take the domestic competition seriously...

...sandrab may be a leighm medal winner but she's a pathetic coach. Under her care it looks like Fanny Moo is sinking in mud. They'll sink into the second division if they can't pull their finger out...

...Bonang and Milosis are creaming the other teams in the 2nd division. They have big money ready to support them next season. Expect some shock transfers...

NEWSFLASH:

Marauding F.C. started off their Champions League campaign with a 5-2 thrashing by 3rd seed Orean United. Marauding showed flashes of brilliance in the first half, Urk and Zurich each putting in a goal at half time before Orean clawed one back just before the break. However, Marauding's poor defence came back to haunt them, letting in 4 more goals in the second half to bring the final score to an unpleasant away loss of 5-2.

Final score:
Orean United (Liverpool England) (3) - 5
Marauding F.C. (Giant Zucchini) (16) - 2

Cenataurs keep on rolling.

In their first game in this seasons Champions League, Halfassed Football League champions The Cenataurs took on Fal Dara Scorpians at The Glade. In front of a full house, the team continued their tremendous run in the competition with a 4-0 rout. It took less than 2 minutes for the Cenataurs to get off the mark, with a great cross from young starlet Al Bundy being blasted into the top corner of the Scorpians net by vetren Ian Paisley.
Just 10 mins later and Paisley grabbed his and the teams 2nd, with a powerful header from a Bundy corner.
Another Bundy corner killed the game as a contest just before half-time, this time Jon Stun provided the finish.
After the break the game was more subdued with the Cenataurs taking it easier. Bundy and Stun were bothed subbed (possibly with an eye on the WC qualifiers). The Scorpians did have a couple of good chances, but young goalkeeping prodiege Noe Wayman showed why he has been included in the World Cup squad with a couple of fantastic saves to maintain his shut-out. With just 5 mins remaining, Paisley grabbed his hat-rick with a stunning volley from the edge of the area.
In the other gamwe in group F, Akbarbad City drew 0-0 with Timopolis FC.

In group G, Halfassed other representatives, the Platypi played out a hard fought 1-1 draw with Dankeshon FC. After their poor performance in the last Champions League, and losing their league crown last year, things didn't look great for the Platypi, but a 60th minute equaliser from Lee Hendry alongside some tremendous defensive work and goalkeeping from Derek Malcolm helped the Platypi get a point away from home. In what looks likely to be a tight group, Ellery camp and Prehistoric FC drew 0-0 in the other Group G game.

Altantis look lost, fans scream murder

Fans of FC Atlantis screamed blue murder yesterday as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Athletic East. Despite the resourceful Derek Lionel, Atlantis lacked any real punch going forward, having to rely on an already overburdened midfield for goals. Though Both Huntley and transfer listed Cannon hit the woodwork, a fantastic set peice free kick and a penalty wrapped up the points for Athletic East, who surely were bemused as Atlantis struggled to mount a serious goalscoring oppertunity.

The Club's AGM is next week, with serious questions to be asked of both Team Manager and The Chairman, whom have presided over an alarming loss of form resulting in bitter rivals Khandrias stealing the league championship once more.

"We WILL improve." was the only comment issued by Dermot Izden, Chairman.

Hardfought draw for Champions

Division A Champions Khandrias United battled out a hard earned draw with Schimpol Bulldogs. Controversy was the name of the game, with ill timed tackles and silly bookings being dished out to either side. Both teams spurned glorious chances, with Bulldogs missing a point blank header, and Winter screwing an easy shot wide.

The Controversy was rooted to the sixty fourth minute. When a clever piece of play saw Winter clean through on goal, and scoring, only for the linesman to flag offside. TV Replays showed that Winter was clearly onside, and Khandrias Assistant Manager Ted Aldershot added-

Its a disgrace, plain and simple. David was onside, and we should have had a goal." Though clear, Ted may now face a fine for bringing the game into disrepute, no matter wether the decsion was incorrect or not.

LOVEFEST NOT LAST!

Two games, two points. It's a real run of luck for Lovefest, which went 0-6 in its first Champions' League outing. Proving they are able to play at the international level, Lovefest earned a point against Opium City to add to the point they earned by drawing against compatriots Black-and-Red Army. Some fans are even beginning to hope for qualification: Lovefest is tied for second in the group.

Army was not so lucky, going down to defeat. Which means Tanah Burung club teams have combined for two of a possible 30 points in Champions' League play to date.

The Cenataurs gain revenge of sorts on Akbarland.

Just days before the two international sides meet again in the WC qualifing, The Cenataurs took on Akbarbad City in the Champions League. After a convincing first game victory, the Cenataurs were clearly on a high and it showed when after just 10mins Paisley opened the scoring for the Halfassedstates based side with a bullet header from Bundy's corner. This silenced the partisan crowd, and with just 18mins gone, you could here a pin drop in the stadium, when Bundy capped a memorable week for him with stunning shot from 30 yrds that flew into the top corner. 2-0 at half-time and the Centaurs were 'sitting pretty' until the 65th minute, when Tom Thumb got involved in a tussle with his opposite number and received his 2nd yellow card of the game. With 10 mins to go, Akbarbad finally made the extra man count and scored their first of the league. Despite their best efforts, Noe Wayman was able to prevent further scoring, and the Cenataurs claimed their 2nd win of the campaign.
Final score: Akbarbad City 1 The Cenataurs 2

The Platypi were not so successful in their game against the famous Prehistoric FC. Playing their first game at the newly built Riverbank Stadium, the Platypi lost a breathtaking game 1-2. After a stunning opening ceremony, the Platypi team got off to an indifferent start, struggling to make an impression in the opening stages, indeed , but for stand-in keeper Jon Doe, Prehistoric could have been 3 up with the first 15mins. However, it was influential captain Ree King who finally got the 1st goal, with a tremendous 25yrd free kick. Just after half time, Prehistoric got themselves level after a mix up in the Platypi defence, before a brilliant solo effort wrapped up the points with just 2 minutes left. Final score: The Platypi 1 Prehistoric FC 2

Article in the Daily Kangaroo:

X-TEEMLY HAPPY

Kaza X-Teem have secured top spot in their Champions League group after an impressive 1-0 away victory at Black and Red Army. The winning goal, nine minutes from the end courtesy of a header from substitute Awqi Lauwea, silenced the large home crowd and sent the visiting fans into raptures. It followed another game of defensive dominance from the nation's top side, well known for their back line.

A 0-0 draw between Lovefest and Opium City Rovers meant that Kaza X-Teem are now the only team to have scored in two rounds of matches in the group. It is still anticipated the Tanah Burung sides will put Kaza X-Teem in trouble later in the group stage but many now see their debut as successful already.

Bouyed by raising their performance level from "dismal" to "adequate," Lovefest prepares for their match against Kaza X-Teem. "If we win this one," said manager Subolo, "we may even pay the players their full salary." Normally Tanah Burung footballers play only part-time because of the league's low salary cap, the only exceptions being the highly-paid members of the national team.

Atlantis Top Group E.

FC Atlantis today continued on in their quest for Champions League success with a solid 3-0 defeat of Kaze Progressa's Quara Laleside. Goals from Derek Lionel, Rusel Cannon & Noel Huntly sealed the win for the No. 4 Seeds.

Assistant Manager Tim Jessic, who has taken over the role of Interviews, stated afterwards-

"Our position within Group E is excellent, and the players have responded to criticism. Our fans have been brilliant, and despite some problems, The facts are we are in a better position than Khandrias, and some other high profile teams I could mention....

Another chapter in the war of words between bitter rivals Atlantis and Khandrias, and also the infamous rivalry between Giant Zuchini and Brittanan domestic clubs.

Khandrias Pull Back Square In Group B.

Khandrias United battled hard to win three points in a vital clash with Camdean Athletic this afternoon. Battling back from 1-0 down through Urqhart to level, they went behind once more before David Winter rescued what seemed like a draw with eight minutes remaining. However a penalty kick was awarded for a frankly dubious handball within the Camdean box, which Winter made no mistake with, handing Khandrias a 3-2 scoreline and three points.

Currently Group B sits unusually in that three teams are joint top, Real Jultos, Schimpol BullDogs and Khandrias, all on five points.

" A win is a win, and though I have to express I didn't immediatley leap from the dugout to demand a penalty, I think it was warranted. Three points puts us back in the frame in the group, and despite the exploits of Atlantis, we won't give them the satisfaction of failing." stated Assistant Coach Alexander Romanco.

FROM SPOUTH'S MOUTH

...McKillops Bridge are creaming them in the NationStates Champions League. In the NSCL they earned top spot of their group by spiflicating the previous leaders Mohammedan Sporting 3-1. They have now played each team and have earned points in every game...

...Ellery Camp, the reigning EFA champions haven't been quite so impressive. After a 3-nil thrashing of Dankeshon they they inexplicably lost to previously winless The Platypi...

...At home, McKillops bridge is edging further ahead in the race for the first division championship. Big mover is Ellery Camp. Don't tell me we are in for yet another Ellery Camp, McKillops Bridge 1-2. Well, at least it looks like the traditional postions will be reversed. McKillops Bridge on top this time. Heh heh...

A day of firsts!!

Match-day 3 in the Champions league brought a change in fortunes for Halfassed two representatives.

In Group F, HFL Champions, The Cenataurs took on Timopolis FC in Timway. A battling performance by the Cenataurs saw them recover from losing 2 early goals, to gain a draw thanks to strikes from Al Bundy (74mins) and Tom Thumb (86mins). A last minute goal from Freddy Crewgar was disallowed and the Cenataurs dropped their first ever points in the group round of the competition. "While we are slightly disappointed to have lost the record, we were pleased with the second half display and we are still top of the group" stated Thumb afterwards.
The Cenataurs now have 7pts, 2 ahead of Timopolis, with Akbarbad City in third on 2pts after they drew 0-0 with Fal Dara Scorpians.

In Group G, The Platypi faced up to the challenge of the well known Ellery Camp side from Errinundera at the Riverbank Stadium.
Having not managed a win in the competition this year, things were looking bleak for the Platypi, especially when Jon Doe spilled a simple catch early on to gift the visitors the lead. The sides were level on 34 mins when a Ree King free kick was missed by everyone except Lee Hendry, who pounced at the back post gleefully. On the stroke of half-time, the riverbank erupted as a lovly 1-2 between the King brothers allowed Ree to break into the box and set-up Hendry for the simpliest of goals 2-1 Platypi.
The 67th minute saw Ree King cap a virtuoso performance as he blasted home a 28yrd free kick, to give the Platypi some breathing space. 4minutes later it was all in the melting pot again as young Joe King brought down the Ellery Camp captain to give away a penalty that was easily converted. However, some superb defensive work on both sides prevented any further scoring and allowed the Platypi to claim a much needed 3pts.

Tanah Burung

Both Tanah Burung teams continue to struggle at the international level. This may be

Understandable, because of the semi-pro nature of the domestic league, but it's becoming increasingly embrassing for the country. Lovefest is continuing its rather dismal run of play. "We

Must improve our play," said Rosa Bibere, the standout Lovefest

Player. Black-and-Red Army, have only been able to defeat Lovefest. People's representative for territorial defence and sports, Mau Kiri Rai, has called for a massive investment in making the league a fully professional operation. But he'll have to offer some money: there are a number of national team players said to be angling for foreign contracts.

NEWSFLASH:
Orean reportedly interested in The Cenataurs' Freddy Crewgar, said to have offered almost an equivalent of US$12.5 million. Crewgar, of Halfassed origin, is currently worth almost US$10 million. Orean's record signing so far has remained at L£6.25million, or about US$11 million. Orean united meanwhile stay top of Group C on Goal Difference over the Pablo Sergio Ghofers with nine points each, while Schimpol stay in third place in Group B.

Kaze Progressa

From the Daily Kangaroo, Kaze Progressa's top daily paper:

THE DREAM IS DYING

Kaza X-Teem's miraculous qualification run appears to be dying. A 4-1 collapse against Black and Red Army in the Progressair Stadium, following a 3-1 defeat at the same supposed fortress against Opium City Rovers where a victory would have virtually sealed qualification, has knocked them off the top of the group and if it wasn't for Lovefest's dramatic late winner in a 5-4 thriller against Opium City Rovers, Kaze Progressa's top side would be out of the qualifying spots. The margin of defeat has particularly rankled among the fans, proud of the side's famous back line.

All four sides can still progress from the group and no side is assured qualification, the only group where such a situation exists. X-Teem visit Lovefest, who they defeated 2-0 in their first Champions League match at the Progressair Stadium, while Army travel to Opium City. A victory for X-Teem would assure qualification, and possibly take them back to the top of the group if Army fail to win away themselves. A defeat would knock them out, while a draw would leave them reliant on Army getting a result in Pablicosta.

Bookmakers not affliated to Kaze Progressa are anticipating failure, with international bookmakers GetLucky offering 7-4 against Kaza X-Teem progressing (most local bookmakers still have odds of evens or shorter). A public poll for the Daily Kangaroo suggests home fans remain fairly confident, with 69% anticipating qualification - interestingly, the same percentage that predicted qualification after two games, when X-Teem first took the lead in the group. Most fans feel that reorganisation at the back might be needed - and that the return of international star Jaff might help.

Tanah Burung
13-09-2003, 18:25
A dramatic goal by Rosa Bibere in the dying minutes of the Lovefest-Opium City match gave Lovefest its first-ever international victory, over the top-ranked team in the group. In an unusual move, Lovefest abandoned all attempts to defend its own goal and launched a series of relentless atacks on the Rovers net. The result was letting in four goals, but scoring five. Three of those went to captain Bibere, a defender who led the rush and made the team's formation look more like a 1-5-4 than the usual defence-oriented formation.

Meanwhile, Black-and-Red Army moved to the top of its group on the strength of a 4-1 win over X-teem, with two goals delivered by Errinudrian star oreadest, recently inducted as an honourary officer in the Tanah Burung self-defence force to allow him to play for Army. The Liga Sepak Bola champions are now in with a chance to advance.

TIMWAY'S TOP TWO TEAMS SECURE ADVANCEMENT

Timway's top two domestic clubs, Athletics East and Timopolis F.C. have secured advancement to the next round. Timopolis F.C. remained unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over Fal Dara Scorpions, while Athletics East secured advancement when Atlantis F.C. lost their game to Artanis United. Timway's third team, Bayou Breakers, was eliminated with their 3-1 loss to Kharden Rovers. The finaly against Soundgrad United cannot come soon enough for them, as they hope to put this horrendous group stage behind them and attempt to regroup for the Timway Premier League.

From the Daily Kangaroo:

THE NIGHTMARE IS COMPLETE

Kaza X-Teem's dramatic collapse from a dominant position in Group H was completed in Tanah Burung last night as they fell 2-1 to Lovefest.

A last-minute own goal from Jaff from a corner - attempting to head the ball out of danger, he merely nodded it in off the far post - finished off the visitors, who had pushed everyone forward for the winning goal they knew they needed owing to Opium City's winning position against Black and Red Army.

Ekazen Waulino had given Kaza X-Teem the lead in the 29th minute with a storming narrow-angle volley from an overhit cross, and from then on the visitors retreated in numbers and hoped that their famous defence, so critical to their early run in the group, would do the job.

Lovefest, sensing their opponents' vulnerability, opted for all-out attack at half-time, and dominated the early part of the second half. Numerous chances were created but the packed defense ensured there was rarely a way through.

However, the home fans knew that one moment of style would earn the equaliser. It came on the hour, with Rosa Bibere choosing to lob over a crowded penalty area from 25 yards. The curling lob left defenders bemused and the stranded goalkeeper could only watch the ball drop into the net.

By now, Opium City had gone 2-1 up in their match, and both sides knew they needed a win. Both goalkeepers stood firm despite intense pressure until the last-gasp winner for Lovefest.

The Opium City match was delayed for several minutes, ensuring Lovefest an anxious wait for the Army equaliser they needed but never got.

OOC: Did I get something incorrect on the tables, or did the fourth place team from Group H actually go through in place of that group's first place team?

IC: Timway's National Football Federation has expressed disappointment that Timway's two advancing teams, Athletics East and Timopolis F.C., would play each other in the quarterfinals if each team wins tomorrow. The Federation, which has no power over the Champions League but likes to complain about it anways and will probably even submit a bid to host CL3, wishes that it's two teams were placed in opposite halves of the draw. But it's not a big bother, as Federation President Christopher Marley is frequently inebriated and likes to hold press conferences while in this state.

I have 3 points to make

1. Sorry about that mistake I have changed KazaX to Opium.

2a. You should be glad your two teams might play---that garentees one is into the semis

2b. It is a random draw and the matches are set up
Winner Group A Vs Runner Up Group E
Runner Up Group B Vs Winner Group F
Winner Group C Vs Runner Up Group G
Runner Up Group D Vs Winner Group H
Winner Group E Vs Runner Up Group A
Runner Up Group F Vs Winner Group B
Winner Group G Vs Runner Up Group C

It was down to the wire, but Black-and-Red Army advanced ahead of Lovefest by a nose. Lovefest did all it could, getting the win over X-teem, but it was not enough. Army now advances to face Dorminian Rovers.

"This is a remarkable accomplishment for an expansion club," said people's representative for territorial defence and sports, Mau Kiri Rai, who also coaches the Army team. Army was formed on Mau Kiri Rai's initiative to give the country's self-defence force something to do, and the team went on to win the domestic league championship in its first season.

Much of the credit for that goes to oreadest, disgraced at home and now sporting a spiky red and black hairdo with luminous stars at the top of some spikes, the hair style he wore throughout the season while playing at a number of different positions. "I'm hoping for a win, of course," he said. "But even more, i'm hoping to see Ellery Camp go through the round as well and face them in the quarter-finals. I'd like to see Ellery Camp again, and show them a thing or two."

Mau Kiri Rai also announced the Black-and-Red Army line-up:

TIMWAY CLUBS TO MEET IN QUARTERFINAL

Both of Timway's remaining teams, Athletics East and Timopolis F.C., scored impressive wins today to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face each other to determine the semifinal berth. Number 8 seed Athletics East put a 5-2 shellacking on 14 seed Kharden Rovers in order to post a 6-3 aggregate victory. Similarly, Timopolis F.C. beat Khandris United, by a score of 5-3, in order to take the aggregate match by a total of 7 to 5. In the Timway Premier League, Athletics East took the series 2 games to 1 en route to a first place finish in the league standings, while Timopolis F.C. finished second.

Khandrias battle bravely with reserve squad, but fail at final hurdle.

Champions League

With news of war at home fresh on the minds of all connected with Khandrias United, the club recieved a double blow. For the personnel safety of Brittanians worldwide the significant fanbase the Division A champions had drawn disappeared as wartime conditions prevailed. Losing all gate reciepts for home fans was a difficult result, however worse was to come.

Becuase of the instability of the War against Mishakal, and the possesion of Orbital Weaponry, all Non-Brittanian players were given an indefinite leave of abscence to return home, under full pay until such time as Brittania was at peace again.

This lead to Khandrias being forced to field an entirely Brittanian line-up. To achieve this fully four of the starting eleven were under the age of nineteen, and all substitutes had yet to at the time of the game make a start for Khandrias.

The First leg secured Khandrias a slim lifeline, ending 2-2. Both goals from Veteran striker David Winter ensuring they at least had a chance. However with injuries to contend with, and fielding half of the U21 side in the first team Khandrias were soundly beating 5-3 on the return leg.

No coach was avalible for comment, and no player would talk to ENNN, citing only they were eager to return home.

NEWSFLASH

Today the Brittanian Football Association announced a total suspension of the [i] Premier Division A, National B & C Divisions and the National Amateur League, citing that wartime conditions suggested this course of action until such time as peace is restored to Brittania.[/b]

The Cenataurs progressed to the quarter finals of the champions league to-day thanks to a nail biting penalty shoot-out win over the number 2 seeds, the Real Jutos.

Goals from Stun and Orean utd target Crewgar had given The Cenataurs a vital 2-2 draw in the away leg, a score that was to be repeated in the game at the Glade today.
This time it was Bundy and Crewgar who scored for The Cenataurs. Crewgar scoring with just 4 minutes to go, sending the game into extra time.
No further goal were scored and so we went to penatlies.
Milton and Stun missed for The Cenataurs, but these misses were cancelled out by two great saves from Noe Wayman.
With sudden death upon us, up stepped Crewgar. A calmly taken kick settled in the bottom left corner of the net and the Cenataurs had the lead for the first time in the tie. The Real Jutos right-back step up for his team, but a poorly taken strike was comfortably taken by Wayman, to send The Cenataurs through.

"I'm over the moon, the side played brilliantly last season, but slipped up in the first knock out game, - hopefully this year we can keep going, though the next game against Alan City will be a real test for us" said hero of the hour Wayman afterwards.

On the topic of his possible sale to Orean Utd, Freddy Crewgar wouldn't be drawn. " Its an honour to be the subject of such a bid, but who knows what will happen. I would like to be the first Halfassed player to play in the LE league, but its down to the chairman and manager really. If the bid meets their valuation then business maybe on the cards!"

With Chairman Coinun Itin in Audioslavia at WC7, it is unlikly that anything will happen until after the group matches there.

Black-and-Red Army v Dorminian Rovers

The first leg at Dorminian saw manager-minister Mau Kiri Rai give a new order to his players: "Attack, attack relentlessly, be the arrow that meets its mark, flying again and again at the enemy." And so it was. With two goals by oreadest and one by Lere Anan Timor, Army came away with a 3-2 win and was well placed for the home leg.

"Do not let up," Mau Kiri Rai told his players before the home match, played at Burung-yang-membuat-dunia. "Keep attacking. Drive them from their positions and deliver the final victory." One goal apiece went to Lere Anan Timor, Konis Santana and oreadest, and Rovers were not able to keep this match as close, falling 3-1.

The offence-minded play is a new development for Army which seems to have caught Rovers off guard. But the next challenge will be tougher: either the number three or number ten ranked club. Army is hoping for Ellery Camp to come through. If it does, Army's home leg will be played in the village of Findabaya, despite its lack of a proper stadium. If not, the match will take place in the National Stadium in Ukun Rasikan.

"Ever since antarcticad and i started the Ellery Camp-findabaya exchange programme, i've wanted to bring the Ellery Camp first team to the village that captured our hearts eight years ago," oreadest said. "And we'll hope to load up a whole blimp and bring as many Findabayans as we can to Ellery Camp. I'd love to make the exchange programme somethign that everyone can take part in, not just one lucky kid per year from each town."

HSMG news -
In the Champions League quarter final first leg tonight, The Cenataurs lost at Alan City. Two goals from Alan Belmore gave the home side the perfect start, but a clean sheet from Noe Wayman in the second half and a tremendous individual goal from Orean Utd bound Freddy Crewgar on 73 minutes left the final score, Alan City 2 - The Cenataurs 1.

After the game, we interviewed Freddy,
"It was a great performance by all the lads, I'm just glad to have got the goal and given us a real chance in the return match. Hopefully I'll be able to play in that game before the move is completed, but who knows. I am happy with the offer Orean have made to me, I've seen the facilities available in LE and they are top knotch, so basically it is just going to depend on when Mr. Itin confirms the deal."

We attempted to contact Mr. Itin, but it is believed that he was returning to Halfassed on his private yahct after Halfassed's final WC group game win over Squornshelous guaranteed qualification to the second round.
The 3-1 win meant Halfassed leapfrog Squorn on goal difference, so no matter the result of the Timway-Dennisov match, the 4th seeds have made the next stage.

Black-and-Red Army manager Mau Kiri Rai pronounced himself "satisfied" with his team's 1-0 defeat in the first leg at Orean United. A tightly disciplined style of zone defence proved effective in holding United to one goal, although the goal of coming away with a draw proved just out of reach. Striker oreadest begged off playing, having alreaady foolishly committed himself to appear in Ellery Camp that day.

United will be welcomed at the Tanah Burung National Stadium for the return leg. Foreign citizens are cautioned that they will have to leave their guns at home. Even the army doesn't carry guns here.

<<CREWGAR SET FOR OREAN: FRED DUSSIS>>

Fred Dussis, Chairman of Orean United, has confirmed that Orean United target Freddy Crewgar will make his move within two weeks. This comes after a twelve-million-US-dollar bid for the midfielder, and after he agreed to a sixtyfive-thousand-US-dollar per week contract. The midfielder is expected to be used in the upcoming Liverpool England season, as Crewgar will not be able to play anymore in the CL2 due to his involvement with the Centanaurs. Meanwhile, after Liverpool England's 2-3 World Cup 7 Round One defeat against Malundar, Paul Oliver Dussis, who scored 9 goals in the qualifying and all of LE's four goals in the World Cup proper is rumoured to be the target of the Centanaurs, possibly as a replacement for Crewgar. Dussis is however unlikely to move away from his dad's club.

Rooty Break are leading the table. Early tearaways, McKillops

Belmore victorius over the centaurs after penalties

Belmore lost to The Centaurs 2-1 leaving the aggregate at 3-3 will both sides scoring an equal ammount of away goals then the match went to penalties. It was a glorius display of how not to take penalties with only Alan Belmore scoring. But thats how it ended-The centaurs loosing on penalties.

The Progressair League Premier Division is hotting up. The fourteen teams are close to completing playing each other twice, before the league splits into two constituent parts of seven who also play each other twice. Given the closeness of the league this season teams are desperate to reach the top half, knowing that they could concievably win a Champions' League spot if they're in seventh and concievably go down if they're in eighth. (OOC: This is a similar, but somewhat modified, version of what has been introduced in the Scottish Premier Division.)

The battle for the right half of the so-called 'Spring Split' is mathematically between most of the clubs in the division with four games still to play before the split occurs, but most focus is on five teams: Quarua Mountain, Pageas, Texat Aba, Capitolians and Waree-Masrhu. These five fill sixth to tenth in that order and - assuming no slump from those above them or burst from those below them - only two will be in the top part of the Spring Split. The five are separated by just two points, and in the next round of fixtures there are two matches between the two - Waree-Masrhu visit Pageas while Quarua Mountain travel to Capitolians in the battle between the secondary clubs of the two main cities in Kaze Progressa, Quarua and Kaza.

The primary clubs, Kaza X-Teem and Quarua Lakeside, have fought their usual private duel for the top for much of the season. Nobody else has been top since Chedar-Edma beat Waree-Masrhu 6-0 on the opening day to take the initial lead on goal difference, and they have swopped leadership roles six times this season already. But the battle for Champions' League spots really hotted up when Kaza X-Teem, stunned from their slump in that competition from a seemingly certain qualifying position, did the same in the league, losing two games in a row and winning only one from four games since. From their last six games, they have taken a paltry five points. Quarua Lakeside, amazingly, failed to take advantage. They too have only won one game from their last six, admittedly only losing one either (among the four draws for the league's most attacking side, who had only one draw in the whole of one season three years ago, were results of 4-4 and 3-3). That, in turn, translated to a fairly dismal seven points from six games. The way was left open for new pretenders and it was Jauranians who emerged, who won four and drew two (one against Lakeside) of their last six to come within two points of X-Teem and four of leaders Lakeside. Hot on their heels are surprise package of the season Farela City, who are just one point further back. They knocked Lakeside into third earlier in the season before losing to them 6-2 when a victory would, owing to X-Teem's defeat at Pageas, have sent them top for the first time in their history. Two more defeats and a draw followed in the next three games before a devastating run of five straight victories - ended only by X-Teem - sent them back into the frame.

At the bottom, newly-promoted Azzaer are struggling as expected, but while they are plumb-bottom, it is only on goal difference from Ewaqa. Gauralan are also struggling, as are Paninara Kick (though they could concievably still make the top half of the split and hence remain safe from relegation, as well as earn money-spinning ties against the big clubs).

Thanks :D

BTW, that gap, in case you hadn't worked it out, is the point where the Spring Split activates in four games' time (after 26 games, when each team has faced each other home and away).

And it's two teams relegated, though I'll concern myself with that once the split's done. (Besides, the two relegated sides look well and truly decided already.)

To TBF: It's spelt Quarua not Quara, in most languages anyway...

FYI, Kaze Progressa.

Like most fonts the normal BB font has a variable character size,
ie "i" takes up less space than "w". This is very readable but
makes tables nearly impossible to line up neatly.

Anything within the markers "code" and "/code" (both in square
brackets instead of inverted commas - I can't do the brackets as
then it will become code and you won't see it) will be in a font
where all characters are equal width, including spaces. This then
allows you to put in the necessary spaces to have it all line up
neatly.

Courier font allows the same thing in other applications. One way
to prepare your tables is to do them in Word in Courier and cut
and past into the NationStates forum. You also spend less time
in "post reply" and thus reduce your chance of an invalid session.

Quote my previous post to see how it is done.

FINAL
OREAN UNITED 2 (Dussis 23rd, 89th penalty)
MCKILLOPS BRIDGE 3 (12th, 39th, 45th)

Last year's third placed Orean United made it past where they'd fallen last season - in the semi's, against Alan City both times - but fell at the final hurdle. McKillops Bridge overcame all odds to beat the third-ranked Orean 3-2 in the final. Paul Oliver Dussis, son of Chairman Frank Dussis, scored Orean's two goals in the 23rd minute firstly, cancelling out McKillops' first goal, and an 89th minute consolation from the penalty spot. Dussis Snr said later: "I think Paul did a good job, I just hope we will win next year's tournament with [Freddy] Crewgar on board."

FROM SPOUTH'S MOUTH

...Kingfishers melanoxlyona and snapier are having the sort of year that all footballers dream off.
1. McKB is 3 points ahead in the EFA Ist division with three games to play in the season
2. Their domestic team, McKillops Bridge has just won the NationStates Champions League
3. They are about to play for the national side in the World Cup semi-final against Bedistan
They could yet make it a clean sweep of all three tournaments. Amazing stuff...

...Although the final of the NSCL was a skillful affair it lacked the excitement of some of the lead up games. It started of well with melanoxylona and Dussis scoring early for McKillops Bridge and Orean respectively. But it all ended when the 2 Milosian nymphs, nylephtha and sorais, turned on their magic and scored in quick succession just before the break. With a 3-1 lead it was a matter of hanging on until the final whistle. With the crowd chanting "boring" the Kingfishers played a blocking, defensive game in the second half until the dying moments when a rough tackle from newtsinutes gave Dussis a penatly which he duly converted...

...filthyl and mountd are a couple of dills. Why on earth did they withdraw their application to host WC8. Hey, guys, there's no beg-your-pardons in this big, nasty world. It's either chop or get the chop. Stuff the dignity and feelings of Bedistan and Oglethorpia. Stuff the feelings of The Belmore Family? Sport is war. If you see a head, kick it...

...As I predicted last week, McKillops Bridge have asserted their authority in the first division. Only Rooty Break and Ellery Camp can catch them. Really, Rooty Break is playing out of their weight. It will be miraculous if they can keep up the giant-killing performances. Ellery Camp has 5 points to make up in 3 games. Not likely, guys...

...With the amalgamation of Monkeytop and Big Tree Camp, only 2 teams face relegation. I wonder how much Fanny Moo have contributed to that merger. This could save the Fannies from division 2. Whatever. Bemm River and Waratah Flat are certain to take a dive...

...From the silly season rumour mills. nyleptha and sorais to desert McKillops Bridge for their old team, Milosis, which is about to be promoted...

...Bonang, who is also about to be promoted has got a very fat cheque book. They look about to plunder some of the first division sides. First Creek Falls is looking ripe for plucking...

...Keep stirring the possum...

Congratulations to McKillops Bridge. What a year for Errinundera... please thank us in part for giving you such each warm-ups in the WC8 qualifiers :D

The schedule for the final matches has been confirmed. Quarua Lakeside face the three teams who can realistically prevent them from becoming champions - Jauranians, Farela City and finally deadly rivals Kaza X-Teem - in successive away matches in the middle of the 12-game race for the title, separated only by a home match against on-fire Paninara Kick who surged from nowhere to enter the 'Super Seven' on goal difference. The final week of matches features a Quarua derby and Kaza X-Teem visiting Jauranians, matches likely to decide the title.

Bookmakers in the country have Quarua Lakeside as white-hot title favourites following a recent slump from Kaza X-Teem, with just nine points from six games.

Meanwhile, the relegation/promotion structure has been confirmed. (It always waits until the split.) Most at the start of the season predicted a simple procedure of two up, two down, but the league knew this would lead to a dull relegation non-battle with two sides sunk clearly at the bottom of the Premier Division. Now, the bottom side will go down automatically, the champions will go up, and then two more sides from each division will meet in a mini-league of four, playing each other once, with every match held in the Quarua Waterside Arena (home of Quarua Lakeside). The top two will play Premier Division football next season, the bottom two will not. The idea has drawn a mixed reception from fans, with those supporting sides like Gauralan who would have been virtually safe with two-up, two-down dubbing the idea cynical. Unaffected fans mostly feel the idea is interesting, but possibly over-complex.
