What can I use all your commodities for?

This is a common question we receive at Metals & Minerals Gone Wild.

There are wide variety of uses for our commodities. Here is a brief overview for most of the commodities we sell:

Aluminum $1,398 ton

It weighs about one-third as much as steel or copper; is malleable, ductile, and easily machined and cast; and has excellent corrosion resistance and durability. Measured either in quantity or value, aluminum's use exceeds that of any other metal except iron, and it is important in virtually all segments of the world economy. Some of the many uses for aluminum are in transportation (automobiles, airplanes, trucks, railcars, marine vessels, etc.), packaging (cans, foil, etc.), construction (windows, doors, siding, etc), consumer durables (appliances, cooking utensils, etc.), electrical transmission lines, machinery, and many other applications.

Cadmium $1,460 ton

Cadmium is a soft, malleable, ductile, bluish-white meta. lAbout three-fourths of cadmium is used in batteries; the remaining one-fourth is used for pigments, coatings and plating, and as stabilizers for plastics.

Coal $25.09 ton

Copper $1,648 ton

Because of its properties, singularly or in combination, of high ductility, malleability, and thermal and electrical conductivity, and its resistance to corrosion, copper has become a major industrial metal, ranking third after iron and aluminum in terms of quantities consumed. Electrical uses of copper, including power transmission and generation, building wiring, telecommunication, and electrical and electronic products, account for about three quarters of total copper use. Building construction is the single largest market, followed by electronics and electronic products, transportation, industrial machinery, and consumer and general products.

Crude Oil $28.13 brl

*Depleted Uranium $75,000 ton

Gold $355.70 oz

Because of its superior electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion and other desirable combinations of physical and chemical properties, gold is an essential industrial metal. Gold performs critical functions in computers, communications equipment, spacecraft, jet aircraft engines, and a host of other products. Although gold is important to industry and the arts, it also retains a unique status among all commodities as a long-term store of value.

Iron ore $29.31 ton

Iron ore is the source of primary iron for the world's iron and steel industries. It is therefore essential for the production of steel, which in turn is essential to maintain a strong industrial base. Almost all (98%) iron ore is used in steelmaking.

Kevlar Fabric $75 yd
Kevlar Panel $500 sq/ft

Kevlar is one of the first high strength synthetic fibers to gain acceptance in the reinforced plastics industry. Unlike the previous synthetic reinforcing fibers, Kevlar has a considerably higher tensile strength and modulus than fiberglass. Kevlar is usually used for structures requiring good stiffness, high abrasion resistance, and lightweight. Current applications for Kelvar include boat hulls, aircraft fuselage panels, pressure vessels high performance racecars and other applications where a high strength to weight ratio is required.

Laminated "SPECTRA" Ballistic Level III Panels can stop all automatic weapons fire with an impact velocity up to 3000 ft/sec.

Kevlar 29 Style 755 Ballistic Fabric, which weighs 16.5 oz. per sq.yd is used in a number of personal protection applications including Car Armor and Cockpit Door Armor.

Lead $464 ton

Lead is a very corrosion-resistant, dense, ductile, and malleable blue-gray metal that has been used for at least 5,000 years. Lead is primarily used for SLI-type batteries. Non-SLI battery applications include motive sources of power for industrial forklifts, airport ground equipment, mining equipment, and a variety of non-road utility vehicles, as well as stationary sources of power in uninterruptible electric power systems for hospitals, computer and telecommunications networks, and load-leveling equipment for electric utility companies. The total demand for lead in all types of lead-acid storage batteries represented 88% of apparent lead consumption. Other significant uses included ammunition (3%), oxides in glass and ceramics (3%), casting metals (2%), and sheet lead (1%). The remainder was consumed in solders, bearing metals, brass and bronze billets, covering for cable, caulking lead, and extruded products.

Lithium $4,470 ton

The use of lithium compounds in ceramics, glass, and primary aluminum production represents more than 60% of estimated domestic consumption. Other major end uses for lithium are in the manufacture of lubricants and greases and in the production of synthetic rubber.

Nickel $8,331 ton

Nickel is primarily sold for first use as refined metal (cathode, powder, briquet, etc.) or ferronickel. About 65% of the nickel consumed in the Western World is used to make austenitic stainless steel. Another 12% goes into superalloys (e.g., Inconel 600) or nonferrous alloys (e.g., cupronickel). Both families of alloys are widely used because of their corrosion resistance. The aerospace industry is a leading consumer of nickel-base superalloys. Turbine blades, discs and other critical parts of jet engines are fabricated from superalloys. Nickel-base superalloys are also used in land-based combustion turbines, such those found at electric power generation stations. The remaining 23% of consumption is divided between alloy steels, rechargeable batteries, catalysts and other chemicals, coinage, foundry products, and plating.

Niobium (Columbium) $35,000 ton

Palladium $180 oz
Platinum $672.50 oz

The catalytic properties of the six platinum group metals (PGM)—iridium, osmium, palladium, platinum, rhodium, and ruthenium–are outstanding. Platinum's wear and tarnish resistance characteristics are well suited for making fine jewelry. Other distinctive properties include resistance to chemical attack, excellent high-temperature characteristics, and stable electrical properties. All these properties have been exploited for industrial applications. Platinum, platinum alloys, and iridium are used as crucible materials for the growth of single crystals, especially oxides. The chemical industry uses a significant amount of either platinum or a platinum-rhodium alloy catalyst in the form of gauze to catalyze the partial oxidation of ammonia to yield nitric oxide, which is the raw material for fertilizers, explosives, and nitric acid. A wide range of PGM alloy compositions is used in low-voltage and low-energy contacts, thick- and thin-film circuits, thermocouples and furnace components, and electrodes.

Silicon $1,240 ton

Silica (SiO2) as quartz or quartzite is used to produce silicon ferroalloys and silicon metal. Demand for silicon ferroalloys is driven principally by the production of cast iron and steel. Silicon metal, which generally is produced like ferrosilicon in submerged-arc electric furnaces, is used not as a ferroalloy, but rather for alloying with aluminum and for production of chemicals, especially silicones. Small quantities of silicon are processed into high-purity silicon for use in the semiconductor industry.

Silver $4.75 oz

Of all the metals, pure silver has the whitest color, the highest optical reflectivity, and the highest thermal and electrical conductivity. Also, silver halides are photosensitive. Owing to the above properties, silver has many industrial applications such as in mirrors, electrical and electronic products, and photography, which is the largest single end use of silver.

Steel $410 ton

Titanium $4,550 ton

The specific properties of titanium make it very suitable for application in marine environments. Aside from its corrosion immunity in marine service, it’s much lower density and high strength to weight ratio translates into significant weight savings for every pound of titanium used and is a measure of its structural integrity.

The Thermal Expansion Coefficient of titanium is lower than that of Cu-Ni alloys and Stainless Steels, being much closer to that of carbon steel. This makes it more compatible equating to lower stress from thermal fluctuations (expansion) when coupled to or within a system that is made primarily of carbon steel.

The Thermal Conductivity of titanium being higher than that of stainless steels allows greater heat transfer in heat exchangers. It can also be made to match that of the
Cu-Ni alloys (much more easily when comparing to 70-30 Cu-NI) by reductions in wall thickness (with no need for a corrosion allowance) and increases in flow rate (due to its significantly higher erosion resistance), making the effective overall heat transfer difference negligible or even higher for titanium.

When considering the fact that the Elastic Modulus is on the low side, it makes titanium more flexible and more resistant to damage with superior shock tolerance (0.63 x 103 in/sec Shock Resistance Factor). The Shock Resistance of titanium is significantly higher than 316 Stainless Steel, 70-30 Cu-Ni and Nickel Base Alloys. The Yield Strength (min.), being the highest among its competing alloys, makes titanium suitable, strength wise, for use in a number of marine applications. It also provides the potential for lighter gauges, which translates to weight and cost reductions.

Titanium has good ballistic properties and is used for armor for the ground services.
It is non-magnetic with an Electrical Resistivity of 22 micro-ohm-in @ RT, allowing no electronic interference.

An extremely tight adhering, erosion resistant outer protective layer of a non-toxic material (it is used in prosthesis for body parts) does not release any toxic metals to the environment. It is entirely Environmentally Friendly.

Tungsten $50.00 ton
Tungsten Carbide $7,451 ton

Tungsten (W) is a metal with a wide range of uses, the largest of which is as tungsten carbide in cemented carbides. Cemented carbides (also called hardmetals) are wear-resistant materials used by the metalworking, mining, and construction industries. Tungsten metal wires, electrodes, and/or contacts are used in lighting, electronic, electrical, heating, and welding applications. Tungsten is also used to make heavy metal alloys for armaments, heat sinks, and high-density applications, such as weights and counterweights; superalloys for turbine blades; tool steels; and wear-resistant alloy parts and coatings. Tungsten composites are used as a substitute for lead in bullets and shot. Tungsten chemical compounds are used in catalysts, inorganic pigments, and high-temperature lubricants.

Uranium $27,000 ton

Zircon $410 ton
Zirconium $31,000 ton

The principal economic source of zirconium is the zirconium silicate mineral, zircon (ZrSiO4 ). Zircon is the primary source of all hafnium. The major end uses of zircon are refractories, foundry sands (including investment casting), and ceramic pacification. Zircon is also marketed as a natural gemstone, and its oxide is processed to produce the diamond simulant, cubic zirconia. Zirconium is used in nuclear fuel cladding, chemical piping in corrosive environments, heat exchangers, and various specialty alloys. The major end uses of hafnium are in nuclear control rods, nickel-based superalloys, nozzles for plasma arc metal cutting, and high-temperature ceramics.

He's hardly trustworthy when it comes to how much should people purchase of him, isn't he? Eventually he'll be standing on thin air, having sold the very soil, apparently essential for constructing automobiles.

Untrustworthy? Not in the least. As arms and vehicle manufacturers, you should know how much material it takes to manufacture your wares. We do know, however, how many tons of Iron ore, coal, etc it takes to manufacture 1 ton of steel.

We also know current market prices. The price you quoted for Titanium is WAY below market price, and it is unclear how you can realistically price it at half the market price and still stay in business. According to today's markets, Titanium is $4.55/kg or $4,550/mt.

By the way, METALS & MINERALS GONE WILD! is currently a state owned company of The United Apostates. As such, it is not able to be publically traded. We do hope this will change in the future.

(ooc: for simplification on how much material is needed to manufacture something, I would suggest you use the tonnage of your vehicles to determine the tons of steel to manufacture it [eg a 70 ton tank would require 70 tons of steel]. While this easy ratio is greatly simplified, without doing major research, this would be your best bet.)

Our head engineer has had minimal training and would like to inquire the best efficiency rate we can achieve. In other words, what's the best way we can use our 300,000 tonnes of steel?

Regards,

General Al Franken
Democratic Republic of Wishik

General Al Franken (ooc: loved you on SNL),

As a very simplified and general manufacturing rule, each ton of vehicle requires 1 ton of steel. If you're building a 70 ton tank, it requires 70tons of steel.

KEVLAR GONE WILD!

Kevlar is one of the first high strength synthetic fibers to gain acceptance in the reinforced plastics industry. Unlike the previous synthetic reinforcing fibers, Kevlar has a considerably higher tensile strength and modulus than fiberglass. Kevlar is usually used for structures requiring good stiffness, high abrasion resistance, and light weight. Current applications include boat hulls, aircraft fuselage panels, pressure vessels high performance race cars and other applications where a high strength to weight ratio is required.

We sell Laminated "SPECTRA" Ballistic Level III Panels, which can stop all automatic weapons fire with an impact velocity up to 3000 ft/sec.

The price for the Spectra panels is $500 sq/ft.

We also sell Kevlar 29 Style 755 Ballistic Fabric, which weighs 16.5 oz. per sq.yd. This is used in a number of personal protection applications including Car Armor and Cockpit Door Armor.

The price for Kevlar 29 Style 755 Ballistic Fabric is $75 a yard plus a 10% cutting fee.

DON'T BE FOOLED

Although some of our competitors will boast of lower prices, the devil is in their details...

For instance, did you realize that by purchasing from some competitors, you're actually giving away your nation's rights to your own resources?

Why would you sacrifice your national sovereignty for $10?

Also, do you realize that you get what you pay for? You want cheap steel, you'll get cheap quality. You want top-quality steel, you'll have to pay market prices. As an arms manufacturer, you pride yourself on your quality and craftsmanship. Well, as a metals & minerals supplier, METALS & MINERALS GONE WILD prides itself on its top-quality materials and superior customer service. We firmly believe that you shouldn't discount quality, and that's why we don't use marketing gimmicks or loss leaders to "push" our product.

We are who we claim: a knowledgeable, experienced, and equitable commodities supplier/retailer.

Remember, if you want the experience of driving a Lexus, you won't get it by purchasing a Geo Metro.

So you're wanting to trade roughly 100oz of silver for 1 ton of steel? Sounds interesting and possible. What quantity of steel were you needing?

Before we agree to this, we must be sure that your silver is top quality because we can only sell it if it meets our strict quality control standards. Please telegram us with more information on the quality / purity of your silver, and we will make our decision. Thank you.

This Buddha statue is made of pure gold, dated to the fifteenth century, weighing five and a half tons, 3.04 meters in height (10 ft), seated at Wat Trimitwittayaram, Bangkok, Thailand.

This statue is considered an object of wonder for thee reasons :

1. Its immense size of six cubits and five inches in width at the lap span, and sevencubits, one span and nine inches in height.
2. Its being an exquisite representative of the physical characteristics of Lord Buddha, created some seven hundred years ago during the Kingdom of Sukhothai.
3. Its being cast in pure gold.

For a country your size, I could build a Trans-National passenger and freight rail system, stopping at and linking all of your major cities, suburbs, and industreal areas in the entire country on standard size rail for $10 billions dollars, unless of course you furnish the raw steel in which case it will drop the price to $8 billion. This rail system is easily expandable, and can go pretty much anywhere you have about 15 feet of open space.

Thank you. We look forward to a long-term relationship with The Mars Volta.

im making ballistic shields, and some swords

Kevlar Plating is a good material for ballistic shields. So is Titanium, Tungsten Carbide, or Ferroboron.

For swords, I would recommend titanium or ferroboron.

Due to trigger happy troops, who fired 1000 Tomahawks in one single battle, Wolfish is facing a shortage of steel.

Please ship 100,000 tons of rolled steel.

We would also like 25,000 tons of depleted uranium. (for ease of mind, we are already a nuclear power - we've just run our supply low as much of our country is run on geo-thermal energy, not nuclear.

Thanks.
