[The Difference Engine was Charles Babbage's mechanical calculator...A Victorian computer, in a way. He ran out of money before he could finish it. The London Science Museum has a replica that works.]

"Well, as you might expect, they're largely virtual." He frowns at that.

"Chiba City does have a real one that's pretty nice, tracing the history of electronics from when eletricity was first discovered. I think there might be an art museam that's brick-n-mortar, but that'a about it, I'm afraid."

It's a large, old-looking building, though it's hard to tell if that's age or design. The engraved 'Marshall Island Museum of Science' over the main door supports the former.

The museum opens into a huge entrance hall where a few school parties are queuing. There's a rocket engine supended from the ceiling, and a few models in glass cases.

'Never heard that name, actually.'

He grins, "Just hiding the fact that I tended to sleep in history class. From what I remember, Mhu Thulan was the name used by the prehistoric... whatevers that inhabited the island. I think they found that in some ancient city they dug up fifty some years ago."

He walks past the counter, and looks around the museum proper.

Right in front of them is a large staircase leading up to the other floors of the museum. To their right is the ground floor; Josef can probaly see a few steam engines, some of which are moving.

'What do you want to see first, then?'

[Basically, the museum is divided by topic: so there's sections for flight, space, computing, land, sea, medicine, physics, chemistry and so on. There's a 'history of firearms' exhibit as well, obviously.]

...Clocks, as it turns out. Lots of complicated mechanical clocks, some church mechanisms, assorted other stuff. The exhibit is above one of the lower galleries; if Josef looks over the balcony he'll see there's a Mk. 7 Mammoth Tank on the ground floor.

"I have never seen so many clocks in my life..." He seems a little stunned at just how completist GMC is. About halfway through he just sort of looks around, mildly lost, until Alice taps him on the shoulder and he snaps out of it. "Sorry..."

He also notices the tank and looks at it for a moment, when she mentions the cafe. "Sure, that'd be nice."

[One thing Josef will have noticed is the museum has a UK floor layout, so the floors go ground-first-second...]

It's a pleasant cafe; around the outside are a set of model aircraft, going from gliders, through the Flyer and WWI bi and mono planes, to WWII and modern aircraft.

Alice smiles, 'Maybe one day there'll be a model of Starblade here...'

AS-04 Starblade is going to be the official callsign.'

'At the moment we're just prototyping...There's 31 aircraft assigned to the project, five Grand Dragons the ASPD is using to test plasma engines, and the rest aerodynamic test vehilces. I've got a load of project data on my study computer, if you're interested...'
