GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 10:26
'Yeah, Ok.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 10:32
He goes over to the computer. "Trust me, this actually ties into an earlier conversation..."
He goes through a whole series of miscellaneous commands and ends up logged into his own account back in the Hack. He pulls up the specifications of the Rover. "Take a look..."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 10:35
Alice tilts her head a little, 'Nice specs...I'm trying to think what we'd need a mobile laboratory for...'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 10:37
"Well, I figured you guys might figure something like that out. I mean, you know us and practicality..."
He looks at an addendum, "Hm... someone actually bought one..."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 10:39
'I'm sure I can think of something...Forensics, maybe?'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 10:42
"Possibly. I'm sure it could stripped down a little for that. It's the Mk 7 of the research world. Neat, impressive, scary, and slower than a snail."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 10:44
'Well, we could use the tractor unit. Sounds pretty heavy-duty.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 10:46
"Oh, it certainly is. It can drive over and through most everything. We were kind of thinking it'd be great for archeological research, and things like that, where being able to be in the field for a few week straight would be handy."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 10:47
'Got a lot of archeological sites in The Hack?'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 10:53
"Well... we think so... I mean, most of our population is in Chiba City, so there's quite a bit of island that's largely ignored. We're pretty sure a pre-human race once lived there* but we've found no real proof."
[* That's true. Vic is 1/10th that race, as I've mentioned before]
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:00
'All there really is to dig up here is old Elf cities, and there's not much left of those. Fortune City's the only one that survived whatever happened to them.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:04
He nods. "Well, we figured someone who was really eager to dig up dinosaur bones or the like might be interested." He shrugs, "Personally, I just like that they let me add the espresso machine."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:08
'Not sure how our dragons got on with the dinosaurs...' Alice smiles.
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:16
"Hm. Dragons, yes. I had forgotten about those. I doubt they'd look favorable upon surveying their burial sites... if they have them..."
He shrugs and smiles, "At any rate, I figured it'd give you an idea of the nonsense I'm willing to pack into a HumVee... or, say, a Trans-Am..."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:24
'Well, we don't really like the idea of digging up burial sites, human or dragon...Because we'd rather our great-great grandkids don't do the same to us, I think.'
'And I can hardly wait to get started on that...'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:29
He prints out a detailed schematic, and then logs back out, wiping his tracks.
"Figure it might be interesting to peruse in detail, as opposed to just the press release. Anyway, I suppose we should get started on that tour, or we'll never leave." He grins, "And then what would the press say...?"
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:30
Alice blushes, 'I'm sure I don't know.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:32
"I shudder to think."
"As much as I hate to say it, but you might want to change..."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:33
'Aw...Spoilsport. Give me a second.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:37
He steps back into the hallway, calling back, "Hey, I like the dress, but you might look a little odd wandering about town in it at... erm... noon."
Where does that time go...?
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:39
'Oh...Wasn't thinking of that, to be honest.' She comes back out in a more sensible (but still pretty) dress, 'Better?'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:45
"You look great, love. Where to?"
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:46
'The car seems a good start.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:53
"Well... yeah, I suppose. Let's go." He heads off for the garage.
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:55
Pretty soon they're driving in town, 'I guess the first big question is...Civil or military?'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 11:57
"Hm... we kind of did military yesterday, so let's start with civilian."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 11:59
She smiles, 'Ok...I think I manage that...'
<In that, she's talking monuments, art galleries, museums etc. And the Tower>
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:01
[Fair enough. He's not the biggest art freak, but he can handle some culture]
"Sounds good. What's first on the list, Oh Tour Guide?"
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:04
'The Science Museum?'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:09
He laughs, "Am I that transparent?"
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:11
'I just thought it seemed like your kind of thing...'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:14
"Oh, hey, it's cool. I don't want you to bored though."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:17
She smiles, 'I have degrees too...I've gone there on my own before. You'll like it, they've got a working Difference Engine.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:19
He fights the urge to make a lame joke. "Really? Sounds neat, let's go!"
[Er... what's a Difference Engine?]
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:25
[The Difference Engine was Charles Babbage's mechanical calculator...A Victorian computer, in a way. He ran out of money before he could finish it. The London Science Museum has a replica that works.]
'Ok...Just let me find somewhere to park.'
'How's The Hack for museums?'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:28
[Whoa... sweet...]
"Well, as you might expect, they're largely virtual." He frowns at that.
"Chiba City does have a real one that's pretty nice, tracing the history of electronics from when eletricity was first discovered. I think there might be an art museam that's brick-n-mortar, but that'a about it, I'm afraid."
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:34
'That's a shame...Oh, here we are...'
She pulls in to a multi-storey and parks. 'It's just a short walk from here.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:38
He gets out and stretches as little. "This should be fun." He takes her hand as they walk to the museum.
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:42
[Need bed soon. One more post...Give me time to write some exhibits]
It's a large, old-looking building, though it's hard to tell if that's age or design. The engraved 'Marshall Island Museum of Science' over the main door supports the former.
'Well, this is it.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:45
[Sounds good. Running on 3 hours of sleep myself]
He looks at the building, taking in the archetecture. "Wow... Hm... Marshall Island?"
GMC Military Arms
07-06-2003, 12:46
'You're standing on it...It's the name of the actual island.'
The Most Glorious Hack
07-06-2003, 12:50
[night/morning]
"Oh... I suppose that makes sense... I don't think I've ever heard its proper name before..."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 09:40
'Well, GMC's just shorter, I suppose.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 09:42
He nods, "Much like we don't say Mhu Thulan, I guess." He holds the door open for her.
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 09:48
The museum opens into a huge entrance hall where a few school parties are queuing. There's a rocket engine supended from the ceiling, and a few models in glass cases.
'Never heard that name, actually.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 09:55
Josef looks around the atrium, glancing in the cases. "Well, almost nobody has... it's usually used by members of one of the odder cults, but I suppose it's technically accurate..."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 09:56
'Technically accurate?'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 09:59
He shrugs. "Who ever lived there before we did called it that. Of course, that was a long time ago. A long time ago..."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:00
She smiles, 'You're being unnecessarily mysterious.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:03
He grins, "Just hiding the fact that I tended to sleep in history class. From what I remember, Mhu Thulan was the name used by the prehistoric... whatevers that inhabited the island. I think they found that in some ancient city they dug up fifty some years ago."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:06
'It's interesting to know...Maybe you can show me some time?'
She flashes her ID card as she walks past the cashier. She doesn't pay.
'There are some perks with this job...'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:10
He digs out his wallet, "Well, I don't think it's a tourist spot, but I'm sure I could pull some strings."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:21
'Actually, you don't have to pay either if you don't want to...'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:24
He blinks, puts his wallet back. "Oh, alright then."
He walks past the counter, and looks around the museum proper.
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:29
Right in front of them is a large staircase leading up to the other floors of the museum. To their right is the ground floor; Josef can probaly see a few steam engines, some of which are moving.
'What do you want to see first, then?'
[Basically, the museum is divided by topic: so there's sections for flight, space, computing, land, sea, medicine, physics, chemistry and so on. There's a 'history of firearms' exhibit as well, obviously.]
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:35
He smirks. "How about computing?"
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:38
'Ok...That's on the fourth floor. Hope you're ok with climbing stairs.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:39
"Seems mildly ironic..." He heads over for the stairs.
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:40
'Why's that?'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:43
He shrugs as they climb the stairs, "Well, stereotyping would put computer nuts as people a little out of shape."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:43
She looks embarassed, 'The lift's got a glass floor. I'm a little scared of heights...'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:46
"Ah, and ew. I rode in one of those once... glass sides are one thing, but not seeing anything underneath is... disturbing..."
[I hate those things too...]
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:48
[But not as bad as glass stairs which are only supported in the centre. Eep]
'I'm glad you understand...I don't know why they installed it, to be honest.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 10:50
[Glass stairs? Never witnessed that particular torture device]
"I would guess because it looks neat. Must be a pain to clean the fingerprints off of though..."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 10:58
[Made of thick sheets of glass, supported in the centre (only) by a steel bar. The worst ones have vertical gaps between steps. Argh.]
'I guess so. Or maybe it's so we can laugh at people who used the lift while we're using the stairs?'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:03
[Good Lord. Give me marble any day]
He smiles as the reach the forth floor. He's mildly winded, but not gasping for breath. "Could be. If they're crazy enough to take it, they probably should be mocked."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:06
There's a couple of big archways in front of them, one of whihc has a sign next to it labelled 'history of computing.'
'I should think it'll seem like prehistory to you...'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:09
He chuckles. "It's not like we just spit out the 9.9 tH computer one day. Besides, the abbacus is pretty remarkable in its own right."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:11
[Get that second Tg? I know it's nothing to do with this...]
She smiles, 'Well, maybe Shiala can be a tour guide here if she retires...'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:15
[Yeah. Interesting. Completed story?]
"That would be really neat. Your computing guide being a computer-guide." He starts looking at various exhibits.
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:18
[Mostly complete...I just keep adding to it.]
'I think she'd like it, too.'
[Note: GMC lists Colossus as the first real computer, not ENIAC.]
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:25
[Heathens! Er...]
Josef quirks an eyebrow at Colossus being first, but doesn't seem too perturbed. "This is pretty neat..."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:29
[Well, it was...It's just the UK didn't even admit it had cracked the Enigma code until about 1968. Something to do with issuing Enigma machines to our allies and telling them the code was unbreakable...]
'Well, we've done our best...There's even a few vintage arcade cabinets in one corner.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:35
[Didn't the US admit cracking Enigma much earlier?]
"Really? Neat." He looks at a display with punch-cards. "When I see these things, I find myself wondering how people will look at modern tech in 50 years."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:37
[Naw...ENIAC was for calculating particle collisions as part of the Manhattan Project.]
'Through VR goggles?'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:39
[Feh... too tired to keep things straight]
He laughs, "Well, probably. I was more thinking about microprocessors sitting in museums next to punch cards and vacuum tubes."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:42
'It's possible...But I don't think it'll happen very soon.'
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 11:43
"I certainly hope not. I like my job."
GMC Military Arms
08-06-2003, 11:47
She grins, 'I like your job too.'
[Sorry, had to go to bed]
The Most Glorious Hack
08-06-2003, 12:47
[No big]
"Well, with any luck we'll be employed for awhile still."
He looks at the last of the exhibits, commenting randomly on a couple as they walk back out into the hallway.
"What would you recommend next?"
GMC Military Arms
09-06-2003, 12:18
'Well, there's a few flight exhibits on this floor, and a bit of chemistry. Otherwise, we could look downstairs...Or just wander. It's up to you.'
The Most Glorious Hack
09-06-2003, 12:43
"Wandering sounds fine, as long as we avoid that stupid elevator."
GMC Military Arms
09-06-2003, 12:44
[Bed now, one more post. Sorry.]
'Ok...I guess you're leading then.'
The Most Glorious Hack
09-06-2003, 12:51
[S'okay. Had to actually work at work today...]
He randomly points in a direction and starts walking, holding Alice's hand. He goes down to the third floor and heads for the nearest exhibit.
GMC Military Arms
09-06-2003, 12:57
...Clocks, as it turns out. Lots of complicated mechanical clocks, some church mechanisms, assorted other stuff. The exhibit is above one of the lower galleries; if Josef looks over the balcony he'll see there's a Mk. 7 Mammoth Tank on the ground floor.
'There's a coffee shop near here, if you want something to eat or drink...'
The Most Glorious Hack
09-06-2003, 12:59
"I have never seen so many clocks in my life..." He seems a little stunned at just how completist GMC is. About halfway through he just sort of looks around, mildly lost, until Alice taps him on the shoulder and he snaps out of it. "Sorry..."
He also notices the tank and looks at it for a moment, when she mentions the cafe. "Sure, that'd be nice."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 08:27
[One thing Josef will have noticed is the museum has a UK floor layout, so the floors go ground-first-second...]
It's a pleasant cafe; around the outside are a set of model aircraft, going from gliders, through the Flyer and WWI bi and mono planes, to WWII and modern aircraft.
Alice smiles, 'Maybe one day there'll be a model of Starblade here...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 08:38
[I think that's a conspiracy to confuse the hell out of Americans...]
He sips his coffee, looking at the various aircraft. "Don't believe I'm familiar..."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 08:42
'Oh...Did I say that out loud?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 08:45
"Yes..." He smiles slightly, "Care to share with the rest of the class?"
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 08:47
'Weeell...Remember you saw those notes about the Aerospace Fighter project?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 08:56
"Yes... a project you're working on?"
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 09:07
'That's an understatement...It's one of our major projects. I shouldn't be telling you any of this...You have to promise not to tell anyone.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 09:17
"Well, I don't want to get you in trouble, but if you want to share, I'm all ears." He smiles, "Don't worry, I know not to spill government secrets."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 09:36
She looks a little relieved, 'It's actually the biggest cross-service project we've ever had...I noticed that AFSPD was working on AG and exotic powerplants, and ASPD and NSPD have been working on miniturising fusion reactors for years...So I submitted the Aerospace Fighter proposal. AS-04 Starblade is going to be the official callsign.'
'At the moment we're just prototyping...There's 31 aircraft assigned to the project, five Grand Dragons the ASPD is using to test plasma engines, and the rest aerodynamic test vehilces. I've got a load of project data on my study computer, if you're interested...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 09:40
"Whoa. 'Ambitous' doesn't do it justice. I'd love to see it some time, if you think it'll be okay."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 09:42
'Well, there's no 'it' to see quite yet...Some of the AFSPD's aerodynamic prototypes are quite a sight, but the real thing's going to be amazing. Actually, I've got loads of movie files of the tests at home...Maybe I can show you this evening?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 09:48
"You know me, anything high-tech is right up my alley."
He ponders a moment, "Actually... well... hrm. Off the record, we're putting the finishing touches on a fusion plant ourselves. Of course, the miniturization is quite interesting, but..."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 09:52
'Well, that's all to do with Annie's Mk. 7 update program...She wants to replace the diesel plant with a fusion reactor.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 09:54
His jaw drops. "Good lord. The thing will actually be able to move!"
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 09:56
'Not just that...Railguns in the turrets, surface-to-air missiles or 88 flaks replacing the rear sub-turret pair...Basically, a second-generation model.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:02
He smiles slyly, "Don't suppose we'll be able to... upgrade ours too?"
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:04
'Well...If ASPD ever clears our fusion reactors for export, you'll be top of the list...They're already working on a conversion using a nuclear reactor, f that would interest you.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:07
"Well, the micronization tech would still be there, so we might be able to use it as a jump-point. Especially since we've got fusion..."
He starts absentmindedly scetching notes on his napkin. Power plant schematics from the look of it.
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:09
'So, what do you think so far?' she smiles, 'This place I mean. Or us...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:14
"The country's beautiful. As I've remarked before, similar climate, so it's reminiscent of home." He catches her eyes and smiles at her, "And the people are wonderful."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:18
<He'll notice, if he hasn't already, that she has beautiful eyes.>
She smiles, 'You're too kind...' she takes a sip of her coffee.
<Since I assume they got coffee, food or whatever at some point during that conversation>
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:21
[I was running under that assumption. Both, actually.]
"Nah, just speaking the truth."
"I just hope you'll like the Hack, too."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:23
'Well, if you're a representative sample, I can't see how I couldn't.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:27
"Ah... well... er..." He clears his throat. "Thank you."
He casts his gaze about, thinking of where they should head next.
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:30
She smiles as she realises what he's doing, 'There's an exhibit on cars on this floor. They've got a stack of concept cars...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:34
"Really now...? Sounds like a great idea." He grins, "Maybe ours will end up here one day."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:37
'They had the actual Bond cars here last time I came, so maybe. That was a special exhibition, though...It's probably somewhere else now.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:43
"Well, I'm sure there'll be some good ideas around anything." He drinks the last of his coffee. "Whever you're ready, hon."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:47
'Wow...Was your coffee just colder than mine?' she points to her half-full cup, 'Or should I remember not to put any cold water in yours in the morning?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 10:50
He grins, "Years of late-night programming. That, or my tongue is actually made of asbestos."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 10:53
She smiles, 'Don't think the second one's true...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:00
"I hope not. If so, I'd be sucking down carcinogens every time I bit my tongue."
He blinks. "Okay, that was odd... Anyway, yeah, I got used to drinking hot coffee staying up late working on OS's. Luckily I haven't completely deadened it..."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 11:03
'It is pretty lucky...' She leans over and kisses him, 'See?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:08
"Mmmm... yes indeed." He smiles at her.
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 11:13
She smiles back, 'So, once my coffee's down to where a mere mortal can drink it we head for the cars. Sound good?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:16
[Gonna be doing the ~2 hour vanish in about 15 minutes]
He laughs. "That sounds great." He grabs a biscut to munch on, while her coffee cools.
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 11:17
'You seemed a little surprised to see clocks in here, by the way...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:22
"I've just never seen so many, from so many different time periods. Actually, I've never seen an entire exhibit dedicated to clocks..."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 11:24
'Well, this is an old museum...The steam engines downstairs were cutting-edge technology when they built it.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:26
"Oh my. The one in Chiba City is only about 20 years old."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 11:29
'Well, I bet it's none the worse for it.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:33
He nods. "The biggest loss was all the artifacts and such that... well, we probably had, before the Rebellion. The old museum, like most everything else, was mostly leveled."
"You've seen maps of the Hack, right? We used to be ringed with mountains..."

'I'm sorry to hear that...' she pauses, 'Used to be ringed by mountains?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 11:41
He grins a little despite himself. "Yeah, used to be. It was a... messy war. I'll have to tell you about it sometime."
[*vanishes*]
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 11:59
'It'll be interesting to hear...'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 13:28
"Interesting, but mildly disappointing, I'm afraid."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 13:41
'Disappointing?'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 13:44
Josef blinks. "Did I say disappointing? Er, I ment 'depressing'. It was a pretty rough war."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 13:45
'Oh...I'm sorry.'
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 13:55
He shrugs. "It's okay. It all happened before I was born. I barely remember some of the aftermath, but that's about it." He clasps her hand, "I'm not trying to bring you down or anything, even though I seem to be doing that..."
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 13:58
''S ok...' she smiles, 'Don't worry about it. I'm happy enough just from being with you.'
<One more post.>
The Most Glorious Hack

He turns a little red, "Yeah, same here, but I'll try to avoid such topics for now, fair enough?"
GMC Military Arms
10-06-2003, 14:15
'Fine...Shall we go and find something nice to talk about?' she points to the empty coffee cup.
The Most Glorious Hack
10-06-2003, 14:16
He smiles. "You had mentioned the cars, unless you have something else in mind."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 11:33
'I meant the cars...' she smiles, 'Why, what did you think I was talking about?'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 11:38
"Uh... walk in the park? Just keeping options in mind..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 11:40
'Well...I'd like to stay here a little while longer...Then maybe a walk...And a film? There's a cinema near here...'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 11:40
"Sounds fine to me. Haven't been to a show in awhile."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 11:43
'I suppose you wouldn't like a romantic comedy?' she smiles hopefully.
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 11:44
"Not my favorite genre, but I seem to recall that you have quite the collection..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 11:45
She nods, 'I like them...But it's your choice, of course.'
<That smile again>
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 11:47
He grins when she uses The Smile. "You didn't have to cheat, I was going to agree anyway..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 11:49
'Just wanted to make sure...I've never really liked horror films, and there's a couple playing at the moment. Anyway, let's head for those cars.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 11:53
He gets up, collecting the miscellaneous trash and dumps it. "Horror's a tricky thing. Too many directors decided to rely on being gory, as opposed to being scary."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 11:56
'Not really fond of either...They give me nightmares.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 11:57
He gives her a hug, "Then I won't take you to any. Just as long as not everything is a romantic comedy, I'll be fine."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 12:02
'It's ok...I can stand other things; I like sci-fi, some action films...Just not horror.'
'Hey...' she points to a car, smiling 'Think we could make it as fast as that one?'
<It's Thrust SSC, obviously...>
The Most Glorious Hack

[Missing the reference...land speed record?]
He looks at the car and the description "Hmmm..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 12:09
<Yep...A supersonic car. It's a cockpit with two engines nicked from an F-4 Phantom stuck to the sides...>
'Well...Maybe not quite that fast...'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 12:12
"Seems it might be difficult to steer. We can work on breaking the land speed record with our next car."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 12:33
'Mmm...Aren't too many salt flats in GMC to test it on, anyway.'
<Sent you a TG>
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 12:34
"Well, we've still got some blasted wasteland left over we could probably test in."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 12:36
'Well, Wavell's LVTT is good for anything with wheels...I told you I've run my current car up there a few times.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 12:40
"Fair enough, we can field test there..." He gives her a bemused look, "I assume we'll need a firing range too..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 12:42
'Wasn't planning on anything like that...' she catches his expression, 'No, really!'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 12:44
He laughs. "Head of Mil R&D and you weren't planning on putting any... toys, in it? I bet you were planning to sneak a rocket launcher in when I wasn't looking..."
GMC Military Arms

The Most Glorious Hack

'Whereas I don't care how my computer does things as long as it does them...I think we'll manage.'
The Most Glorious Hack

"It'll be a blast." He looks at a random muscle car with an external air scoop.
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:04
'So, what do you think of their collection? It's quite impressive, isn't it?'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:06
"Amazing. Of course, I can't identify most of them, but it certainly is neat. Like everything, they didn't go half-way..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:08
'Well, this place was built around our industrial revolution...there used to be fourteen steam locomotives on the ground floor. That's what my great-grandad said, anyway.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:11
"Fourteen? Displays? Wuf. Have they ever had to expand the building?"
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:19
'No, not really...It doesn't look anything like as big is it is from the front. Downstairs they had the locos, and a set of steam engines*...Basically all the heavy stuff.'
[*As in pumps, reciprocating engines from steam ships, that sort of thing.]
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:21
He nods. "Okay." Looking around, "It's a really nice museum."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:23
'Thanks...I've always like it too.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:27
"We seem to have run out of cars..."
"You want to take that walk now, or hit another exhibit?"
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:29
'Well, maybe we can come back some time and finish off? There's lots still to see...' she looks hopeful.
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:30
"Well, it struck me as a several day deal when we walked in."
[All good museums take more than one day]
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:34
[That's true.]
'Oh, it is...Actually, more like a few weeks....But maybe that's just me.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:38
He smiles, "I could see spending a few weeks exploring. It's pretty neat here. And the wonderful companionship just makes it better."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:38
She hugs him, 'Love you...'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:45
He gives her a quick kiss. "I love you too."
After standing there for a bit, he asks "Shall we head out?"
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:51
''Kay...' She smiles, 'Don't forget the extra floor...'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:52
"Yeah... calling the second floor 'first', driving on the left, crazy wall outlets... I think it's a conspiracy."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 13:54
'To confuse you, you mean? Guess the Supreme Commander must think you're as important as I do...'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 13:55
He smiles, "I'll be happy with just your attention."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:01
She grins, 'Okay, I'll tell those black helicopters to stop following you.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:04
"Wow... I warrent black helicopters? I figured the best I'd manage was an unmarked car."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:06
She laughs, 'Actually, the only black helicopters we have are in AFSO 'C' squadron...And I don't think you've done enough to have anti-tank helicopters after you.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:09
[Nah, only a 2 star wanted level...]
"I certainly hope not. Their guidance systems are a pain to hack into..." He grins.
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:16
She smiles, 'I've stood in front of one of the AV-11 Wolverines they use...They're like flying tanks. Of course, officially they don't exist at all.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:18
"Of course not." He knots his eyebrows, "I'm trying to picture a flying tank..."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:21
<If you've seen Patlabor 2, they look like bigger, scarier versions of those helicopters>
'Maybe I'll get clearence to show you, if you're interested.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:25
"Hey, sure. That'd be great."
After they finish going down the stairs, he smirks and says, "Here we are... floor... zero."
The Most Glorious Hack

After they finish going down the stairs, he smirks and says, "Here we are... floor... zero."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:31
'Does that mean we can get away with saying 2000 was the milennium here, do you think?'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:32
He chuckles. "I wager at least half the population thinks that anyway."
hey, is there a least glorious hack?
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:36
'Well...I prefer to think so too, actually, whether it actually is or not. It's just a nice round number.'
'Well, off to the park, then.'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:37
"I opted for '01, as I worked all night for '00. Damn paranoid senators."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:40
'Well, I was off that night...I guess that's one of the advanges of mechanical / electrical, no idiots deciding we only need a two-digit date system...'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:42
Josef smirks. "We weren't using two digit dating. But, since the people who call the shots didn't believe me when I said there'd be no problem, I was stuck watching... well, largely nothing."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:53
'Whereas I was sitting in a corner looking dejected...' she smiles, 'Well, not any more.'
[One more post.]
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 14:54
He puts his arm around her. "Certainly not."
GMC Military Arms
11-06-2003, 14:57
'Well...Here we are.' she smiles, 'Hey, since The Hack's got weather like ours...can you ice skate?'
The Most Glorious Hack
11-06-2003, 15:05
"Well enough not to completely embarrass myself, but not well enough to do much besides just skating. So, no triple lutzes or anything."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 11:57
'Next you'll be telling me that when you built the pyramids you didn't beat up Kubla Kahn,' she smiles, 'Sorry, watched it with Annie once...'
'Actually, you should see Annie and Rachel skate together some time...They used to be on their college team.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:01
"Oh, I kicked Kubla Kahn's ass. Little known fact: he had a glass jaw."
He smirks, "Well, I wasn't on any teams. But I'd love to see them some time."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:01
She smiles, 'Actually, they got banned eventually...'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:03
"Because Annie's an enhanced human?"
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:04
She shakes her head, 'Because they did pair skating...The judges thought Annie being psychic gave them an unfair advantage.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:05
"Hm. Do you think it would have any effect?"
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:07
She nods, 'Annie says it does...She always had Rachel lead. It's great to watch them, though.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:09
"I bet it is. Then you can all laugh at me as I skate."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:09
'Actually, I was hoping you'd rent a pair of skates and come out on the lake with me...'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:11
"Right now? Sure."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:15
She smiles, 'Thank you...The rental place is near the middle of the park.'
Obviously, most of the park is conifers, with a couple of ice sculptures and statues here and there. In the middle is a big frozen lake, with a small building beside it.
'Should I pay?'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:17
"Eh, I can pay."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:19
She hugs him, 'You're wonderful...'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:21
He smiles, "Well, thank you. So are you."
He walks over to the building where skates are rented, and rents two pair for them to use.
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:22
She slips her skates on, 'I'm nothing spectacular, but I know a few tricks...Want to see?'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:24
"Go for it."
He puts his on, and carefully eases out onto the ice. "It'll take me a second... been a few years..."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:26
Alice holds his hands, skating backwards, 'You'll tell me if I'm going to hit anyone, right?'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:28
"Sure." After a couple minutes, he's stable on his feet, remembering what he's supposed to be doing again. "There we go... Let's see those tricks."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:31
'Kay.' She proceeds to run through a fairly impressive set of tricks*. 'Annie taught me, mostly...What do you think?'
[*Don't know any names...Spins, jumps and so on]
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:37
Josef, skating idly by as she does her routine claps, "Wow... you're good!"
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:39
'Well...I practise here some weekends. Thank you.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:43
"It shows. You're very gracefull."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:46
'So come on, how about you?'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:48
"Me? Oh no, I can't do any tricks."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:52
'Aww...' she holds out her hand. 'Guess we'll just have to skate together, then.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:54
He takes her hand, "You say that like its a bad thing..."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:55
'Didn't mean it that way at all.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:56
He grins, "I know, just teasing you."
After skating for awhile, "This is nice."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 12:57
'Yeah...It's very relaxing, I've always thought.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 12:59
"We'll have to come here again some time."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:01
'Yeah...I was hoping you'd say that.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 13:04
He smiles, "Of course."
They skate around for awhile.
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:05
'Maybe next time Annie invites Rachel and me down here, you can come too? You could meet Rachel's fiance, while you're at it.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 13:07
"Sounds like a plan, I'd love to."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:08
'He's a nice guy, you'd probably like him.' she smiles, 'So, to the cinema in a minute?'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 13:09
"Sure." He grins, "What syrupy movie do you have in mind?"
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:12
'Well...Autumn in Marshall City's on at the moment...' she realises what he said, 'Hey!'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 13:13
He laughs, preparing for a playful elbow. "So, what's it about?"
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:16
'Well, I wouldn't know...Haven't read any reviews. I think it's boy-meets-girl stuff, although it might be some other combination.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 13:18
He blinks for a minute, then remembers where he is. "Oh, right. So... person meets person and wackiness ensues..."
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:19
'I think that's about right, yes. There's probably a 'with hilarious consequences' in there somewhere as well.'
The Most Glorious Hack
12-06-2003, 13:21
"And my favorite: 'Confusion stemming from poor communication'..." he grins, "So, why do you like these again?"
GMC Military Arms
12-06-2003, 13:23
'That's not fair...'
