I thought this issue was a very good one, but I thought it was lacking one main option that I would have taken: making a government office a voluntary position, not a paid job. think about it. it could work out so well, if the people were a nation who cared, then they'd have good people in place who want to do the job the right way for the right reasons. or it could work out not so well, where unpaid politicians seek compensation from eager factions buy selling their votes over the internet.

Write a new issue!

With that I've just quickly put together a first draft of an issue
More work needs to be done but it's a start

Name: A Government of Volunteers

Description: With one of the more trashy tabloid media organisations in @@NAME@@ getting a hold of not only the official income for politicians but all the allowances for this and that, and perks as access to governmental transport. The public outcry has recently over-powered the sound emaniting from a new sound-system recently installed in your office. The loudest of these voices cry out for dramatic change to the system.

[option]"What do want?" shouts @@RANDOMNAME@@, a leader of one of the larger protests, in a bullhorn megaphone. The response from the crowd was quite hazy, as they obviously hadn't properly rehearsed. "No more Poli Salaries, That's what we want." They said into the bullhorn. When asked later about their plan they responded. "Politicians saleries are too much, just scrub them all together make them work for their living and that way they will know what it's like trying to work 3 jobs just to feed your family. If this doesn't happen the politicians will continue to sit in their crystal palaces with no idea what it is truly like for the working class. Better understanding leads to Better Choices."
[effect]only the most dedicated, or most bored, become politicians

[option]"What? You're not going to listen to these weirdos are you?" asks @@RANDOMNAME@@, the 2nd most highly paid politician and your 2nd-in-command. "We do that and the government will collapse mass resignings and no one to take their place. It's only the fact that we get paid that we can perform this hellish job, if we have to work then we're going to be tired and make poor decisions as we are unable to devote our full attention to running the country. Add to the fact that you'd get a lower quality of people running for office. Keep the payments or I'm resigning right now!"
[effect]only those seeking wealth and power become politicians

Another couple of possible options for Bazalonia's issue:

[option]"Our politicians deserve to be paid for what they do, obviously," counters @@RANDOMNAME@@, one of your more anno... vociferous constituents. "But tens of thousands of @@CURRENCY@@ a year extra for cabinet positions? No, that's not right. All elected politicians should be paid the same, from the lowest back-bencher to the top dog."

[option]"Flash gits," mutters mother-of-six @@RANDOMNAME@@, a single parent earning the minimum wage. "They should work for the same as what I get! Not a penny more! No perks or fancy cars or nuthin', they should be doin' it for our glorious nation, not themselves. Have they forgotten @@NATIONALMOTTO@@? Bloody disgraceful, that's what they are."

There's a fairly new issue called 'Voting For More Money' that addresses the general topic of politicians' pay, although it doesn't actually include a "voluntary jobs" option...

I agree, I think it needs to stick between the 2 basic options, make the positions paid, or voluntary. How much they are paid is a seperate, though somewhat related, issue.

Okay, re did both the description and the options.

I think they're much better now...

Validity I supose would require that protests be allowed but I think that's it. As I want people to be able to reverse the decision. Bazalonia still has no prisons and yet a high L&O budget

Well, I'm submitting this... seeing as no one has anything else to say
