This "Guns or Butter?" issue is very good, I think. So good, in fact, that I can't decide how to decide.
The first option would lead to a military coup, in essence - which might not be a bad thing, all in all, but I'm not sure if I want it.
"There's no point in having a military this size when our closest adversary has a water pistol strapped to a scooter and calls it an armoured brigade," says noted economist Random Name. "Besides, the military's been getting uppity with all its funding anyway. Slash its budget, sell off its surplus, and put the money into tax relief and... of course... maintaining all those contractors. Sure, they won't make tanks anymore but they can sure make plenty of commemorative plates with all that money!" - That's the second option, which I'm not sure I like - but nice to know that my closest adversary has pathetic armored brigades, hah hah hah.
Then there's some peacenik threatening to set fire to something unless we use the Imperial Exchequer for "noble" purposes and disband the military - to which we say, "Never! Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war!" and all that nonsense. Heh heh heh.
And then a representative of the Libertarian party - Not sure we knew that there was one in our Empire - saying that we could privatize the military, which sounds good, except for that would require depending on some corporations to fund it and defend the country.
I'm thinking about just dismissing it, since I've heard that if you dismiss a lot of issues your economy improves.
