Help Qlestian Economics!

This thread will be used for me to slowly move my economy toward the center of the economic freedoms spectrum. In order to build a good economy (and aid in my roleplaying) I allowed industries to run amuck and run the whole show. Now however, now that I have a bustling economy, I'd like to keep it while implementing more fair practices. That is where this thread comes in. I want to slowly work my way toward better workers rights, but without losing my economic strength.

I have seen it done many a-time and boasted plenty. I want to do it here in Qlestine and so I will post a particular economic issue and ask what the consequences are and ask by how much it will effect me. REMEMBER: I want to keep as strong economically as I can while still adding -some important, not infinite- workers rights to the nation.

Post thoughts and what not here and I will go and get my first issue I will post here. Thank you all for your thoughts and comments in advance! :D

I figure this is the best one to start out with:

The Issue

A recent poll has revealed high levels of dissatisfaction among the populace about tax rates.
The Debate

1. "Do you know how much of my year's work goes to the government?" demanded angry worker Calvin Summers. "Too much! Government spending has gotten way out of control. It needs big cuts in welfare, health, and education. But leave those subsidies to business alone. We need them to create jobs."
[Accept]

2. "It's not the AMOUNT of tax, it's where the burden falls," says student activist Al Steele. "And at the moment, far too much of the burden is falling on the poor. People on high incomes still have more money than people on low incomes. I don't think I need to say anything more than that."
[Accept]

3. "I don't object to the amount of tax, I object to where it's being spent," says social reformer Freddy Hanover. "I'd like to see everyone have a choice as to where their Riginos go every time they fill out a tax return. Everyone would feel a lot better about opening their wallets if they had a say as to where the money went. I think you'd see a lot more public money going to education and a lot less to business."
[Accept]

Now, I'd like to choose Option 2, but how much will that effect me, and what exactly will be the effects? Thanks again!

I'm not sure how much tax effects economic freedom in the game, if it even does. I'm pretty sure taxing the wealthy effects economic strength though.

So taxing the rich wouldnt effect economic freedom, but it would hurt economic strength?

Economic freedom, I don't know. Economic strength, most likely.
