Effects of "Military Demands Increased Spending"

Just got this issue: (only issue *again*, even though I should have two)
Now I was wondering what effects these options have on economy, civil rights etc. (beside Defense spending going up or down).

The Department of Defense has put its case for a substantial increase in funding for the coming financial year.

"These are turbulent times we live in," says Defense Chief Samuel Christmas. "Turbulent and dangerous. And the only sensible response to that, of course, is to build a lot more weapons. Unless we get the funding we need, I can't promise that we'll be able to defend Heavenly Sex's sovereign borders from rogue nations and foreign powers. Or those leaky boatloads of refugees, for that matter."

"NO MORE BOMBS," chant the protestors outside Parliament House, in a repetitious and increasingly annoying appeal. Spokesperson Roxanne Wall, speaking through a feedback-afflicted microphone, says, "Heavenly Sex needs fewer weapons, not more! Make the world a safer place! Disarm now!"

Option #1 will lower your political freedom; Option #2 may raise it, or it may raise civil rights, depending on your level of political freedoms.

Secondly in option 1 I think that economy will go up, civil rights go down

Option 2 economy down, civil rights up.

Why would spending money on the military increase the economy? You're raising taxes to pay for arms, which may not even be made in your own nation state.

I assumed rightly or wrongly that the arms industry would increase.

Option 1. Selected it 3 times: Politcal Freedoms (PF) go down, Military (mil) spending goes down and taxes go up.
Option 2. Only selected it once: Mil spending went to from 5 to 0 and Law and Taxes went down.
