Name: Demands from the Fathers, For the Fathers

Description: Fathers are getting tired of lack of recognition and facilities designed for fathers when Mothers seem to get all the recognition and options, like Maternity Leave.

Validity:Nations of with government or business paid maternity leave.

[option]"We are sick and tired of being passed over when it comes to our kids,"shouted a protesting father, carrying his child in one hand and a book in the other called 'The Newborn's Cry: A look at a Father's role in early child-hood developement' in one of his hands. "See this book, this has documentary proof of how important we fathers are... I demand Father-friendly workplaces, Paternal Leave, equal standing of mothers and fathers in ALL family law proceedings and... oh yeah a public holiday to Celebrate us fathers."
[effect]A new public holiday is in effect... "Hooray for Fathers"

[option]"Father's want what?" asked @@RANDOMNAME@@,a feminist counter-protestor "Nah, what are men good for anyway? nothing so they mose well go make themselves busy at work while we girls go and do the proper work. Actually I have just had an Idea... make men slaves.. yeah... that'll put men in their place."
[effect]All men are forced to work in the salt mines

[option]"I'm sure we can come to some middle ground." states pschologist, @@RANDOMNAME@@. "What we have here is a failure to communicate. There are already plenty of facilites avialable for fathers, granted they are mostly marriage counselling services but we have a large array of these services available to the fathers and they just don't know about it. I propose an ad campaign to make the fathers more aware of what is already out there... government funded of course.
[effect]Ads for marriage counselling services directed towards men are in every media - every day

On advice from sirocco.. I have totally changed the way I approached this issue...

Good issue, I can't see any real flaws in it. Just not sure whether it is a serious enough issue for NS but then again banning cheese isn't really serious either...

Very nice ^_^

The options are well written, but I think the effects need more work. Maybe make them a bit more extreme.

Good job

It's just a wee bit too similar to the maternity leave issue for my liking.

Nice to see someone willing to make an effort to make an issue of my objection :)

When/if I become a father, I will take at least 6 months of paternity leave from work.
The mother will be given the choice of taking 6-12 months off before I take my paternity leave, as I think a mother would be the best to stay home as long as the little one breast feed.

Is there anything in particular that is "a wee bit too similiar" or is it just the issue as a whole?

The issue as a whole.

I've came at it from a different angle, is the new issue alright?

It is still about the same kind of thing really; option two is very nearly the same as the option in the issue about maternity leave where you make husbands stay at home and do traditional women jobs.

In reality I would just make a new issue, the topic has basically been done and is not big enough to demand more than one issue.

It's not really an issue, to be honest. If dads have their own issue for appreciation will we have to do it for all other sorts of social/political/etc. groups?

What you need to do is have a good look in your newspaper for what kind of debates are going on and seeing if any could be readily transferred to NationStates. If it's still something about dads you want to do, then maybe do some research into what the (now disbanded) activists 'Fathers 4 Justice' stood for. It may give you some ideas.

I really wanted to do an issue relating to Paternal Leave... but it doesn't look possible...

Well thanks everyone (and yes that includes sirocco) for their input...

I find it quite sad that people seem to think it's no good for a father to help raise his kid(s), by letting him have a chance to spend a couple of months with his child(ren).

What, exactly, is it that is so wrong with having fathers stay home with their progeny?

Are men less suited to care for a child than a mother, or is it just our view of men staying home with their progeny that cloud our judgement on the issue?
