I'm confused by the stats part. And any other comments would be helpful.

Disappearing @@NAME@@!

With the recent damage to the environment of @@NAME@@, coastal erosion has hit new all time highs.

For nations with really bad environments.

[option] "This environmental disaster must be stopped. We must prevent any further damage!" yelled geologist @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Whole bits of @@NAME@@ are falling off as we speak. The fish are dieing. We must stop the corporations that are denuding our landscape for profit. They are the cause of this mess. I'm sure they can find other ways to make money. And, when you consider our precious ecosystem, who really needs profits anyway."
[effect] wood and paper are scarce because logging has been banned

[option] "Don't just stop the damage. Fix it! Put back the plants!" screamed full time protester @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Put back the trees and plants that once held the land together. If the government pitched in a pile of money to buy the land and plant the trees, we would all be a lot closer to paradise. Think of lush jungles, dark green evergreens, and @@ANIMAL@@s living wild and free, don't think of the tax money."
[effect] houses are being bulldozed to plant trees

[option] "The Corporations would like to offer an advantageous solution to this problem," offered trade spokesperson @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We could put up simple breakwaters around the nation, all made from the waste coming out of our factories. We would be able to prevent the nation from shrinking, and solve the solid waste problem as well. It will be the best solution for everyone. No one has time to go to the beaches anyway. They should be working."
[effect] @@NAME@ is surrounded by a wall of garbage

[option] "We don't need the land. We've got God, He'll provide," said old-timer @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Just let it go. Let the country shrink all it wants. If it's what our Glorious God wants, then it's what should happen, and don't you go messing about with it. Besides, leaving it alone is cheap and easy. Don't worry, @@POPULATION@@ million people can live in a lot smaller place than @@NAME@@."
[effect] the nation shrinks as bits fall off into the ocean

First off, I like the idea.
Secondly, you misspelled 'dying' in option 1.
Stats, let's see:
Option 1 would certainly have the Timber (or whatever it is) industry down, also, economy down, environment up, happiness up.
Option 2: Environment up, taxes up, economy down, happiness up
Option 3: Economy up, environment down, compassion down, probably others as well, but I can't think of them right now.
Option 4: Environment down, happiness down, again, probably others.

Not sure about the [effect] for option 4 - I mean, obviously the nation will shrink, but I'm sure you could jazz it up somehow.

First of all, it would be the Woodchip Exports industry that will collapse if option 1 is chosen. Also, use present tense in the options, not past tense, lso the part of option one that says "yelled geologist @@RANDOMNAME@@." should become "yells geologist @@RANDOMNAME@@."

Option one would have book publishing industry down too.

No wood -> No paper -> No books.

Also basket weaving down.

No wood -> No bark -> Less baskets.

For option four, maybe the effect should be "people are seen running inland only to fall into the ocean when their part of the coast falls off"

Oooh, I like the new effect for option four :p
And yeah, religious funding could be up for option four.

Remove tymber Industry from option 1, because that is what the woodchip exports industry is.
