An issue about issues

Many of them seem to only offer rather extremist positions. For example: there was a new wonder drug discovered and the options I had to select from was to have the drug be very expensive so only the rich could afford it, subsidize the production of all drugs or ban the production of all drugs and let God sort them out.

Being a moderate, I'd prefer to select a moderate position which may be something like have the government negociate a price with the drug company and purchase this new wonder drug in quanity so as to reduce it's individual cost which would make it more affordable to the person who needs it. The company which developed and produced this drug would still make a very good profit.

I could of course dismiss the issue but then, by default, I would be selecting the 1st option which would be to allow the drug company to charge what it wants and thus only the rich could afford the drug.

Would prefer that the options available be linear so that one would tending towards an extremist position on the right, the other be tending to an extremeist positon on the left while the third would be more of a centerist or moderate position which splits the difference between the two others. The issue opitions I described in the first paragraph is triangular with each option being rather extremeist.

All in all though, I really look forward to having to make decisions on the issues.

People often say this, and I think a general answer is that issues iz issues - the constraints of coding mean that there have to be a few options, and that in order to cater for everyone's views, they have to include some extreme options. Beyond that, this is only a game, and a supposedly satirical one at that. Also, as you go on, compromises develop as your many issues work together: you might choose to only allow the rich access to the drug, but you might be able to compromise with social equality policies that mean more people become rich and thus have access to the drug. Finally, most issues are player-written: you can always write one that caters for your particular view.

This is changing the way the game works. It therefore belongs in the tech forum. And anyway, it is made perfectly clear that all the options are exaggerated.

No, what he's saying doesn't change the way the game works.

Read the game's FAQ and you'll find that issues will always be pretty extreme. This is just how the game is, since it's primarily satirical.

I'm new to this and have been reading the FAQs and posts on the subject. It's going to be awhile before I can sumit an issue as I have a population of about 38 million now but I find this quite interesting.

Am wondering if the below would be an example of what's acceptable:

The sensitive issue about women serving in the military has been debated and argued about for some time.

Option 1- "Women have no place in the military. The average female doesn't have the toughness and strength that the average man does." exclaimed @@RANDOMNAME@@ of the conservative "Family First" organization. " Besides, their presence would be a distraction to the men! This isn't PC but do we really want an Army where many of our soldiers are pregnant? Putting young men and young women together in large numbers would be a disaster for our fine Army."

Option 2- "Women who want to serve our great nation should be allowed to do so but they need to be kept out of combat." opines internet pollster @@RANDOMNAME@@."The citizens would not tolerate seeing casualty lists that include the names of many women but females could be assigned to support jobs in secure areas which would free up more men for combat duties."

Option 3- "History has shown that women can serve well in combat and to argue otherwise is sexist and demeaning." argues military historian @@RANDOMNAME@@. " Those who are willing to volunteer should be allowed to do so. Problems with fratinization can be dealt with through education, strict rules and enforcement of those rules."

Option 1 bans women from serving in the military all together and option 3 allows women to serve in combat units. Option 2 is sort of a compromise between 1 and 2.

Add an option to get rid of the military. And if you don't want it to be too extreme, try to find another way to make it funny.

Like an option for only housewives to serve.
