Ok, may I just note that this was harder than I expected, and it's not an especially exciting issue - but surely having more issues will be very welcome. Feel free to edit and modify it to hell...

Title – Promoting Academic Excellence

Description – A more right-wing group in your nation have been examining the schools national curriculum in dismay. They suggest that children are ignorant of ‘vital’ information.

Validity – I think it’s valid for everyone, even people with home schooling are bound to the national curriculum.

Variables – Can affect civil rights, or even economy. Can change government funding in education. Could affect taxes.

[option]”This is quite simply a disgrace!” Exclaims @@name@@, “Kids these days don’t even know about important subjects like history. What is the world coming to when important historical events and dates are being forgotten? Our culture is at stake. I say we reform our education system to make vital subjects like history and languages compulsory. Maybe poorer schools might struggle to achieve good results with this system, but it’s the public schools which really make the best impression on our nation anyway!”
[effect] many poor schools have been closing down due to lack of funding as public schools tend to excel in academic achievement
[stats] Tax decreases, government education funding decreases, civil rights decreases

[option]”What?!” Bellows @@name@@, a liberal teacher. “Yet another government scheme to undermine anyone who isn’t fortunate enough to pay for their education. Sure it’s nice to learn dates and languages, but our nation is thriving in advanced technology. Surely computering and vocational subjects should top our priority lists, to train our next generation in the skills for their typical work? All employers care about is higher education, this is wrong, we should encourage choice and equality for all, make all subjects equally respected, and none compulsory!”
[effect] kids are regularly seen carrying practical equipment not understanding why they sometimes have to have a minute’s silence
[stats] Tax increases, civil rights increases, government funding in education increases

[option]”Yo, dude.” Remarks a student from the local comprehensive, hanging around outside McDonalds during school hours. “I have this radical plan, like, to like, outlaw schools. They totally repress us, if it isn’t the uniform it’s the cannabis in lessons, it’s endless. I speak for the majority when I say that education doesn’t even help us prepare for our future career ambitions, I like, want to start my band. Why would you need history or business studies for that?
[effect] children flock in record numbers to the nearest music stores in order to start up their controversial bands
[stats] Civil rights dramatically increases, economy decreases, taxes dramatically decrease, government spending in education ceases

As you wish...

Needed changes are in red. @@NAME@@ is for the nation's name, why I fixed that. Would taxes really go down in this? If you're reforming education systems, you would probably need more money... which it seems you realized with your second stats change. Also, don't see why civil rights should be affected.

This one's ok, and probably doesn't need that much of a change. Taxes should increase a little, but not much.

That's a good radical option. Just fix the grammar bits, and make it clear that schools are banned. The only problem with that is it makes the effect line kinda long.

Overall, I'd say this is pretty good. Hope it gets used.

To the person suggesting changes, I'll do it later if you don't wanna, I have physics coursework to do now...

Oh, and of course civil rights will decrease if you make subjects compulsory, it's not allowing any choice and benefits the academics (usually middle class) over the more vocational based people (usually working class).

school age children don't have civil rights either way - they learn the curriculum that is imposed on them, whether it's a right-wing or a left-wing one. I'd leave the civil rights issue out of it both ways (except for the third option, which is a radical civil right - the freedom from compulsary education.)

Another radical proposal would be the "Why not do both?" option - which would have the effect "Children spend seventeen hours a day at school" - massive CR hit, massive tax increase, and increase in crime (ditching school more commonplace) and economy decrease (we turn out college professors, not laborors or businessmen)
