A recent court challenge to the rights of gay couples to adopt children has the nation in a tizzy.
[option] @@RANDOMNAME@@, representing the Friends of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trisexual, and Transvestite Citizens of @@NAME@@ Advocacy Group, is aghast. “What reason could the courts possibly have not to grant us adoption rights? Gay couples can raise children in a loving environment, and that’s what really matters, isn’t it?”
[effect] “Bobby has Two Dads” is standard reading material for school children
[option] “We must uphold the moral foundation that our forefathers laid for us! What will become of these children in gay homes – will their pet @@ANIMAL@@s be gay, too?” fumes @@RANDOMNAME@@ of the Straight Parents, Straight Homes Initiative.
[effect] adoption agencies are required to assess the “moral character” of all applicants
[option] “Let me offer a suggestion,” suggests @@RANDOMNAME@@, representing @@NAME@@ Child and Family Services. “How about we let gay couples adopt only the kids we have a hard time finding homes for, like the older ones, or disabled or behavior-disordered kids? It will help ease the burden on the system.”
[effect]
Need help on the effects of the third option. Open to suggestions.

It might make a more viable option if it wasn't strictly gay adoptions. What about adoptions to the disabled and mentally ill, who are also often denied adoptions much like gays?

My parents adopted me and guess what they're a gay couple. All I can say is that it's absured to think that children will messed up by being raised by gay couples. We're as much a family as all my other friends, and in some aspects we're closer, not that it has anything to do with my parents being gay, but I don't understand why people think that there is anything different between being raised by a straight, gay, transexual, bisexual parents. All in all i think I'm the same as everyone else. Just let PEOPLE who want to be parents but can't have children adopt. Let's just forget about the whole sexual orientation thing. And another thing is that it's pointless to get morality mixed up with this. Morality is something that changes for every person so in this case i give morality 2 middle fingers up. :fluffle: :) :p

All right, I guess I know which option you'd choose.

This thread is not for debating the question that the issue addresss, it is for a technical discussion of the issue itself.
Personally....I think it looks good. You may want to consider making it a branching issue with results based on what people chose, for example dealing with hate groups if the government doesn't let gays adopt couples, or maybe the collapse of the nuclear family if the government does. Stuff that like from what I understand increaes the chance of the issue being accepted.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not quite sure how this would be done (technically), other than basing future issues on the choices made in this one. I do have an idea for a Hate Crimes issue, which could flow from this one.

When you submit the branching issue one of the qualifiers for receiving the issue put = must have chosen such and such option to the gay adoption issue and so forth. There is more information in the issue making faq I think.

I didn't know if the preceding issue needed any information in it to that effect. Looks like it's really just part of the secondary issue. I see. Thanks.

This issue still needs help. Kind of shelved it over the holiday period, and would like to delve into it again.

How bout a fourth 'bigger picture' sor of option, something like -
"This wouldn't be a problem if we weren't still addicted to this archaic social construct called the nuclear family. If the state took it upon itself to raise all children people would have more time to do what they wished and we would know all of our children were growing up the right way."
Effects - The youth are being raised in hive shaped buildings where they chant pro-government slogans all day long
Stats - Apathy up, Youth crime waaaaay down
Or maybe -
"I say we implement a 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy when it comes to adoptions. That way we'll have deniability if any right-wing whackos complain, and we'll make sure all the children get to a home of some sort. We can't go wrong!"
Stats - Apathy should go up, Welfare goes up
Effects - Children adopted by gay couples are required by law to call them 'Mom and Dad'
Feel free to mess around with it all you like. Just suggestions.
