Why does the streaker have to have Psoriasis? It's people taking the piss out of, and not understanding Psoriasis which means my mother, and I, can't go swimming in a public pool without being stared at. And this kind of thing doesn't help. poor wording and i'm extremely disappointed.

It makes the issue even "funnier," per se, at least that's how I've always looked at that issue. It makes what the man did even more "shocking" in your country.

Unfortunately, that's what the author chose to include in his/her issue.

can you tell me who the author is? I'm actrually pretty offended about this. I don't see how this skin condition is 'funny'. Is cystic fibrosis 'funny'? is being Asian 'funny'?

#51: Streaker in Snooker Game Fiasco [Sirocco; ed:Reploid Productions]
The Issue: After a sixty year old man with psoriasis streaked past cameras and millions of sports fans during the snooker league playoffs, protesters have called for tougher action.
As a psoriasis sufferer myself (20%+), I see your point ... but I think you're over-reacting a bit. Most people don't have much sympathy for the disease. They just think it's itchy dandruff and such. People with blotchy skin have often been targetted for derision. I'm also a white male in the Appalacians, which makes me fair game for all the redneck and hillbilly jokes, not to mention the incest and moonshine aspects. I just developed a ... pardon the expression ... thicker skin about it.

By the way, Sirocco ... psoraisis is a chronic disease of the auto-immune system. Symptoms can be treated but it can't be cured, and the treatments can be worse than the disease. Serious cases often lead to chronic debilitating arthritis and other nasty crossover diseases. It really isn't funny. Liver spots? Those might be funny. Psoriasis really isn't.

i would like to think that i'm not over reacting but it's one of the few things that really gets to me. stare at the woman with the freaky skin. 'mummy why does that woman have funny skin on her legs'. encouraging people to laugh at it just stops people being tolerant to it and not seeing it as a difference among people

First, please don't get angry at me. I was only speculating as to why it was placed in the descriptor. Luckily, I'm pretty tolerant, because I didn't even think further about some of the things I read in this game.

I'm sure you're not the only one who's ever been offended over something at NationStates.

The use of psoriasis in this issue was just a technique to highlight how easy it for the sensibilities of your citizens to become offended - they won't understand everything they see and they won't look at the big picture, especially when the small one is so interesting. I'm sorry if this issue offended you, that was not my intention.

There is an issue or two that will offend anyone if you are here long enough. You have found the first of yours. Just ignore it and pretend you didn't see it is my advice. While I agree that the issue is offensive, I don't think you'll get the overwhelming amount of support you would need to have the issue edited. I feel your pain, but it is just a game after all, dismiss the issue and you won't have to think about it....until it comes back again.
