Cloning issue

I have the following issue.

The Issue
Scientists using cloned human embryos for research are on the verge of a medical breakthrough.

The Debate
"It's really very exciting," says lab head Hope Dodinas. "Until now, we've kept very quiet, to avoid being targeted by lunatic fringe groups who for some reason think it's wrong to clone human embryos. It's too early to promise anything, but we hope that one day we will have genetic cures for a whole range of debilitating illnesses. I certainly hope the government will support our work."
[Accept]

"Well, if you have to be part of a lunatic fringe group to object to this barbaric practice, I'm a lunatic," says placard-waving protestor Stephanie Clinton. "Of course it would be nice to cure these unnamed diseases, but at what cost? They're messing with the sanctity of human life. It's wrong, and the lab should be shut down immediately."
[Accept]

Well, it's hard for us to tell you what road to choose when we don't know what type of country you want to be.

The first option. Unless you're a fundamentalist who prefers unenlightenment over science.

I choose the first one, but didn't pay attention to my game stats. My guess is that my government size and tax rate grew.

You can dismiss issues when in doubt or disagreement with all the options. Have fun though! :) The issues are still one of the best parts of the game.

I didn't allow it. If you start with genetics then you change what people are and thus lose uniqueness. Also, I like having diseases around; they keep people fit and healthy.

I choose the first option. There have always been people against scientific progress. There were people who believed in a flat Earth and in a geocentric universe. If you said otherwise, you were burned alive. Today, we still have creationists, and soon we'll be seeing a whole lot more of Option 2 guys. Just don't clone whole people to remove their vital organs or something.

The world IS flat... And the center of the universe! Everything revolves around Jerusalem! I can't believe you didn't know that. What are they teaching you in those schools of yours?! :p

The world is flat... but there's no universe. There's only the world, and the monsters at the edges of the world who will eat up your ship if you venture too close.

Recently though, some scientists have found that the Sun revolves around the Earth.

(Hmm... this would be a good issue!)
