A Capital Idea

The Issue
A crowd of penniless ex-businessmen have amassed in @@NAME@@'s capital city, demanding that the government return all the nationalised industry to private control.

The Debate
"GREED IS GOOD!" bellows @@RANDOMNAME@@, a famous advocate of capitalism. "The economy is stagnating terribly under government control. Complete privatisation is the only option here. It's time to give power back to the people! Well, rich people, anyway..."

"This it outrageous!" cries armchair revolutionary, @@RANDOMNAME@@. "The government must maintain the principles of equality and socialism that we fought so hard for, and not sell the country to corrupt and greedy corporations. We must eject these shameful capitalists from our great nation at once!"

"Hey, aren't we all being a little extreme about this?" says noted economist, @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Surely we could just keep the key industries, such as the electricity and water supplies, under government control and lessen the regulations on the others so they could function more independently? That way, the people can't complain that they are at the mercy of big business, and industries such as retail can function more effectively."

Does options 1 and 3 raise civil and political rights? Only nations with 'Outlawed' civil and political rights need reply.

despite being the author of this issue, I cant remember exactly what effects the options have.

however I believe options 1 & 3 may indeed raise civil rights

I chose option 3 and neither civil or political rights increased.

i went with option 3. no effect on either civil rights (average) nor political freedoms (outlawed). i did go from "Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know..." to "A robust private sector is led by the...". the bottom says "... and the government has legalised small-scale capitalism."

thank you hestrael, for writing this issue. i've been wanting to legalize private industry ever since i inadvertently banned it in the beginning. no more talk about my "strong anti-business politics" contradicting my "pro-business government" in a country where "private enterprise is illegal"! finally my nation description makes sense!

Hehe, thanks
I did think this was very much needed in the game so there was a more direct way to change your economic right or left wing tendencies

Is it fair to assume that the second option destroys civil, political and economic freedoms while giving the player seven years of bad luck and a bad case of genital warts?

Eight years and syphilis.

The fact that I had suggested an issue along the same lines but with a fourth anarcho-syndicalist option makes me want to throw pies.
