I was hoping to implament an issue concerning tree planting and reforestation.

That's an idea! I don't think I've ever seen an issue about that... go for it. :)

Quite surprised it hasn't come up yet. It's a great idea... Gives dictators a chance to show how much they care 'bout the future generations to come.

So anybody going to make up a subject? :)

 Cool idea! :)

 Most issues involve taxes. But you could just force companies to do it. You might have a logger saying then they could cut more trees down in the long term. Or some person who says they like treeless places. Or someone ranting about how reforestation isn't the solution, have to always have a forest, etc. I don't know...I'm not good at this kind of stuff. And I don't have 500 million population.

Hm. Might be best as a general "logging" issue... perhaps something like:

Environmentalists in Name are protesting clearcutting by logging groups.

option 1: rabid environmentalist sobbing about the pristine forests, and all the poor (insert national animal here)s, and advocating the banning of all logging

option 2: some sort of moderate advocating a requirement that logging industry types plant a new tree for every tree cut down
(possibly with an effect along the lines of "Logging industry execs are replacing diverse national forests with lumber plantations")

option 3: someone else advocating that the government replant all clearcut areas

option 4: some industry nut (or extreme libertarian type) saying that the logging industry should be allowed to do what it wants

Maybe somebody can flesh these out into proper options?

 This is a reforestation issue I've just prepared. Constructive comments are welcome.

@@NAME@@ ravaged by widespread deforestation

A report handed to the government has detailed how huge areas have been clear-felled since the Industrial Revolution and how the @@ANIMAL@@ is at the edge of extinction.

Valid for nations with the description: “which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation”.

[option] “The survival of @@NAME@@ depends on a healthy environment,” says environmental scientist @@RANDOMNAME@@. “The loss of the @@ANIMAL@@ will be a national tragedy and an indictment of our generation. A breeding program to restore @@ANIMAL@@ numbers to sustainable levels is needed now. Clear-felling must be banned at once and replaced with ecologically sustainable selective logging. An army of volunteers need to spend a few hours every week planting appropriate native seeds and seedlings in deforested areas and removing noxious weeds. Every native tree that is logged must be replaced with a native seed or seeding. If 100 million seeds and seedlings are planted every year for the next 100 years, we can restore @@NAME@@’s forests to their former glory without damaging the economy. To fund this, the government should divert funding from other areas into environment.”
[effect] reforestation and @@ANIMAL@@-breeding programs are underway
[stats] economic freedoms decrease, environment funding increases, all other government funding priorities decrease a bit, timber industry sector decreases, furniture restoration sector increases, woodchip exports sector decreases a lot, public apathy decreases, weather improves a bit, happiness increases, environment improves, compassion increases, devoutness increases, government size increases, crime level increases a bit

[option] “I agree that a breeding program for @@ANIMAL@@s is needed, but if we want to live in total harmony with the environment, then we all need to live as elves in The Lord of the Rings did,” says bird-watcher and Ringnut @@RANDOMNAME@@. “Instead of using dead timber to construct buildings, we should use living trees. Our economy needs to go back to a pre-Industrial Revolution state, so the environment can cope with our ecological footprint. Our utopian dream will take 100 years to be realised, so massive and sustained government support is needed.”
[effect] @@NAME@@ is being de-industrialised
[stats] economic freedoms decrease a lot, economy decreases, environment funding increases a lot, all other government funding priorities decrease, arms manufacturing sector decreases, book publishing sector decreases, automobile manufacturing sector decreases to zero, uranium mining sector decreases to zero, information technology sector decreases to zero, cheese exports sector increases, pizza delivery sector decreases, retail sector decreases, timber industry sector decreases a lot, furniture restoration sector increases a lot, soda sales decrease, beef-based agriculture sector increases, trout farming sector increases, woodchip exports sector decreases to zero, general mining sector decreases, basket weaving sector increases a lot, public apathy decreases a lot, weather improves, environment improves a lot, devoutness increases, government size increases, crime level increases

[option] “Planting 10 billion seeds and seedlings while banning clear-felling is total folly,” says @@RANDOMNAME@@, director-general of @@NAME@@ Forestry. “What we should do is farming plantations of fast-growing trees, so they can be harvested when all the old-growth forests are clear-felled. So what if plantations have the biodiversity of a car park? So what if @@ANIMAL@@s become extinct? Our economy comes first.”
[effect] widespread plantations are springing up while old-growth forests are being wiped out
[stats] economic freedoms increase, economy increases, commerce funding increases, environment funding decreases, timber industry sector increases, woodchip exports sector increases, public apathy increases, weather improves a bit, environment deteriorates, compassion decreases

[option] “Timber is the bane of my life,” says @@RANDOMNAME@@, who suffers from phytophobia. “Just last week, a splinter impaled my right forefinger. I’m sick of being terrorised. All woody plants in @@NAME@@ must be cast down and burnt! None must be allowed to ever sprout again.”
[effect] all woody plants in @@NAME@@ are being razed
[stats] economic freedoms decrease, economy decreases a lot, environment funding decreases a lot, book publishing sector decreases to zero, information technology sector decreases, retail sector decreases, timber industry decreases to zero, furniture restoration sector decreases to zero, woodchip exports sector decreases to zero, public apathy decreases a lot, happiness decreases, environment deteriorates a lot, tax rate increases a lot, compassion decreases, government size increases

You may want to rethink, or at least tone down, that last option. Afaik, we're not really supposed to have "wrong" answers, and I don't see any particular benefit of that one...

How? :? For the forums or when I submit issues? :|

And if I'm supposed to use straight quotation marks when I submit issues, does this mean that none of the 20 issues I've submitted since late November 2003 will be accepted? :!:  :( :x  :tantrum:
