OOC: Okay, decided to make an issue...it's effects are sometimes a bit of a stretch, so I'm open to suggestions and reviews so I can make it better before submitting it.

@@NAME@@’s untouched land causes uproar

A leading corporate spokesman brought up the subject in a press conference today, expressing great concern over several vast expanses of empty land in @@NAME@@, and that his company intends to milk it for all it’s worth.

“I mean, let’s face it,” said corporate spokesman @@RANDOMNAME@@. “It’s not as if anybody actually uses this land. Think of the endless possibilities! There’s raw materials and precious minerals a-plenty out there, and if we don’t take advantage of it, it will be our loss. Just loosen the restrictions on us a bit, and results will be delivered.”
The private sector is having a field day as they rampantly mine resources by every means possible in unexplored areas as the government turns a shy eye.
[stats]Economy increases greatly, environment suffers considerably, health decreases, happiness decreases, political apathy increases, government size decreases considerably.

“Filth! Poison!” shouts local mystic @@RANDOMNAME@@ while roaming the capitol’s streets in a black robe. “Think of the trees! The poor, poor, innocent trees! These greedy corporate pigs are only doing this to stuff their big fat pockets full of dough. We must forbid this, and implement strict regulations on them. Beware! Beware!”
[effect]Business is heavily regulated with regards to the ‘precious’ environment and is at the chains of the commoner, whom the government listens to sympathetically.
[stats]Economy suffers moderately, civil rights increase slightly, business becomes much more regulated, environment improves moderately, health increases moderately, political freedoms increase greatly, happiness increases, government size increases.

“Oh, please,” said rival corporation CEO @@RANDOMNAME@@. “Don’t tell me you’re going to listen to some old soothsayer wandering the streets. What do they know? Anyways, to the point – my colleague here doesn’t know for certain there’s precious minerals out there, or even the raw materials we need. The government needs to hire our firm to thoroughly explore the land first, so that when it comes to milking resources and stuff, we don’t waste time digging where there isn’t anything. We win, you win, our mercantilism ratio wins…Oh, and you can always hire our firm for the digging itself, if you don’t mind.”
[effect]@@NAME@@’s rural areas are being constantly exploited for raw materials.
[stats]Environment drops considerably, health drops slightly, economy increases moderately, political apathy increases.

“Corporations? Psychics? Whatever happened to your own advisors?” says advisor @@RANDOMNAME@@. “What I’m trying to say is that we don’t need to do anything drastic here. We can hire a small, upstart firm to fly around the empty land and file a report on the wildlife and scenery there, and the government can set up national parks or monuments in that region. It won’t generate a lot of revenue, but think of popular reaction – we’re doing something, aren’t we?”
[effect]Previously untouched land become slightly touched as the government sets up national monuments and parks to please the public.
[stats]Happiness increases, political apathy increases, economy increases slightly, environment increases, political freedoms increase, civil rights decrease slightly, government size decreases slightly.

“Something, but not enough,” argues radical political influential @@RANDOMNAME@@. “Do we really want the public to see that we can’t take a firm footing on an issue? We need to go much further. We’ve got to do some small-scale mining of the resources, giving our economy the extra boost it always needs. There’s always plenty of resources, so the next time the economy drops, we can increase the supply, and bingo! Of course, that’s not enough. We’ve got to smother the land with national monuments and parks – erecting fake monuments if we’ve got to. We’ve also got to send some people to go live there, it’s getting a tad crowded in the urban areas.”
[effect]The government goes to great lengths to generate profit from otherwise untouched empty land.
[stats]Happiness decreases, civil rights decreases slightly, political apathy decreases, economy increases fairly moderately, environment decreases fairly moderately, corruption increases greatly, health decreases slightly.

It's a bit similar to the Uranium in the Rainforest issue...
