I am just curious before I make a decision, what are the effects of clear-cutting the rainforest, and what are the effects of allowing mining of a small part?

i don't know i always choose the same one ... always because i've had it 3 times now :)
From my experiance, Clear-Cutitng a small portion gives you a smaller profit, but less of a dent on your ecosystem, but clear-cutting at will gives you a larger profit, a larger dent in the ecosystem.. So it's really a question of: "Which do I like more?.. Trees.. Or money?"
Money usually always wins out in my dicision.
