NEW ISSUE: Ban on homosexuality

17-03-2004, 22:39
Conservatives and family values campaigners have called on the government to ban homosexual intercourse. A furious debate has ensued.

Validity: All nations outside the UN

Options:

[option]Family values campaigner @@RANDOMNAME@@ from the Campaign for Morality in @@NAME@@ says, "It is time the government acted against this immoral and obscene act and defended family values with actions rather than just words. The rate of STI infections from it is much higher than other practices and it clearly says it is wrong in the Bible! Would you want to share a locker room with a homosexual?"
[effect] homosexual acts become illegal
[stats] happiness goes down a bit, crime goes down a bit, civil freedom goes down a medium ammount, religion goes up, income tax goes up a bit.

[option]Gay rights campaigner @@RANDOMNAME@@ from the Gay Liberation Front says, "Poppycock! The religious fanatics can't be allowed to dictate what consenting adults can and can't do. If anything we should be encouraging homosexual activities by extending sex education to cover homosexuality and giving it at an earlier age, like maybe in elementary school so that children grow up to be tolerent adults. If the government is serious about equality they will back us!"
[effect] homosexual acts are legal and sex ed is extended to elementary school students and covers homosexual relationships
[stats] happiness goes up slightly, crime goes up a bit, civil freedom goes up a bit, religion goes down a medium ammount, income tax goes down a bit.

[option]Tabloid newspaper journalist @@RANDOMNAME@@ from the @@NAME@@ Daily Standard says, "I'm sitting on the fence on this one. I guess you could sail down the middle and rather than banning homosexual acts altogether you could just ban them from say, kissing and touching in public. That way you're pleasing the conservatives and not alienating the gay lobby too much either.".
[effect] homosexual acts in public become illegal
[stats] happiness stays the same, crime goes down a bit, civil freedom goes down slightly, religion goes up slightly, income tax stays the same.

Maybe we can expand it so there is an option that only certain genders may marry each other.

Like female only (especially if they are hot.)

¬_¬ .... what?

Just wondering why crime and homosexual acts apparently go hand in hand - ban it, and crime goes down. Surely there should be the opposite effect i.e. if it is a crime, then people doing it are breaking the law.

Oh yes, and you said STI infections, which means sexually transmitted infections infections. Unless you are making a point about the kind of thing people like this may well say, I'd suggest changing it to STD infections (sexually transmitted disease infections).

Just wondering why crime and homosexual acts apparently go hand in hand.

Yes, me too. Doesn't make sense to me.

My other query would be why happiness stays the same in the third option. Are you balancing the decreased happiness of the gay community against the increased happiness of the conservative community (ie they cancel each other out)?
18-03-2004, 13:33
Happiness goes down if its illegal because while the conservatives are pleased it is illegal, the gays are very p*ssed off that it is. And vice versa.

It balances out on the other one because its middle-of-the-road.

As for crime, yes it goes down if its illegal because of more police required i.e vice squad, who also police prostitution and other crimes besides this. Also, more gays in jail, less gays committing other sex crime because they've been slung in jail just for being gay let alone doing anything else.

Gosh I'm glad you dont live in my neighborhood...

Lets not sound so willing to persecute homosexuals like me too easily, you might close your mind so much to variety you just might make life boring for the rest of the world, and turn into a ruthless dictator who creates a homo-caust making homosexuality the issue on which you stereotype against so ruthlessly to make yourself fall asleep easier at night with.

At least you put in there the option to make it legal. Thanks for that, and I'm sure glad civil and relationship freedoms arent so chosen by quick vote as this proposes!

I'm totally down for the banning of guy/ugly girl gayness.

Perhaps there should be an option where the cops just ignore the chicks.

I know I'm not the only one who feels this way....

Right?

Yeah man. I mean when there was a big gay marriage thing on the news here in Canada, where...all of those gay people decided to get married in San Franciso, protesting whatever Bush planned, the news showed TWO HOT CHICKS KISSING EACH OTHER!!

I swear to god, two hot looking blondes, KISSING EACH OTHER. ON TV, AND I DIDN'T HAD TO PAY ANYTHING!.

I was happy that day :D

I think it's a good issue, because it's also being addressed worldwide, but I think it needs a lot of work before it would be accepted into the game.

I just think the effects are a little too general and generic, perhaps, more specifics would be better for the issue.

I disagree with some of your stats... they are based on a religious preception of things. This viewpoint cannot be leveled on everyone. IMO, this would be correct:

Family values campaigner...

[stats] happiness goes down a bit, crime goes up moderately, civil freedom goes down a significant amount, religion goes up, income tax goes up a bit.

Gay rights campaigner...

[stats] happiness goes up moderately, crime goes down moderately, civil freedom goes up significantly, religion remains the same, income tax goes up slightly.

Tabloid newspaper journalist...

[stats] happiness stays the same, crime goes down a bit, civil freedom goes down slightly, religion stays the same, income tax goes up slightly.
